Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī has explained kāma-likhana in his book Ujjvala-nīlamaṇi (Vipralambha-prakaraṇa 26):

:sa lekhaḥ kāma-lekhaḥ syāt yaḥ sva-prema-prakāśakaḥ</dd><dd>yuvatyā yūni yūnā ca yuvatyāṁ samprahīyate
