Theme Analysis
Śrīla Prabhupāda contrasts the futile attempt to enjoy in the material world with the reality of spiritual enjoyment. In material life, no one is actually able to enjoy because death is inevitable and the body is like a disease. Just as a diseased man cannot enjoy food, a conditioned soul cannot enjoy the senses fully. Figures like Napoleon or Rāvaṇa tried to enjoy by conquering or stealing, but they were ultimately ruined. True enjoyment comes only when the senses are cured through purification (tapasya). When one is spiritually healthy, they are able to enjoy unlimited transcendental bliss. This is the goal of Kṛṣṇa consciousness: not to stop enjoyment, but to cure the disease so that real, eternal enjoyment becomes possible.
- The Disease of Material Life: A diseased man cannot enjoy life; similarly, the living entity covered by the material body is unable to enjoy fully because of the temporary and miserable nature of material existence.
