The love that a pure devotee holds for Kṛṣṇa represents the ultimate zenith of spiritual realization, transcending all boundaries of material desire and scriptural calculation. According to Śrīla Prabhupāda, a śuddha-bhakta is completely desireless. Such a devotee flatly refuses all forms of liberation, including the opportunity to merge into the Lord's body or to achieve equal opulence in the spiritual sky. Their exclusive motivation is the transcendental bliss derived from serving Kṛṣṇa. This intense love anoints the eyes of the devotee, granting them the continuous, uninterrupted vision of Śyāmasundara within their heart and in everything they see.

The supreme hallmark of this love is found in the spontaneous devotion of the residents of Vṛndāvana. The cowherd boys, the gopīs, and mother Yaśodā did not relate to Kṛṣṇa with awe and veneration; they did not even care to know whether He was the Supreme Personality of Godhead. They simply loved Him unconditionally. To them, Kṛṣṇa was their dear friend, their beloved son, and the very life and soul of their community. This unadulterated affection is so powerful that it completely binds the Lord. Kṛṣṇa, the supreme controller of the universe, willingly allows Himself to be purchased by the love of His devotees, happily accepting the role of a menial servant or chariot driver, as He did for Arjuna.

When this eternal love reaches its highest intensity, it elevates the devotee far beyond the jurisdiction of ordinary religious principles. Under the influence of Yogamāyā, an advanced devotee will readily transgress conventional social rules and scriptural regulations just to satisfy Kṛṣṇa. As Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu explained to Rāmānanda Rāya, from a materialistic viewpoint, such ecstatic love appears as madness. Yet, this divine madness is the absolute perfection of life, permanently establishing the devotee in an unshakable position of eternal bliss and guaranteeing their transfer to Goloka Vṛndāvana.
