The concept of success is universally pursued, but material definitions of success—such as acquiring wealth, power, or fame—fall short of life's true purpose. According to Śrīla Prabhupāda, the supreme success of human life is simply to satisfy the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Because the living entity is constitutionally a servant, diverting that natural service spirit away from the temporary material senses and directing it toward God constitutes the ultimate victory. Furthermore, successfully attaining pure transcendental knowledge is only possible by hearing directly from the pure Absolute Himself or His bona fide representatives, just as one accepts the pure Ganges water rather than the filthy water of a drain.

The Vedic histories provide magnificent examples of devotees who attained absolute success through the nine processes of devotional service. Śukadeva Gosvāmī achieved perfection by reciting the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, while Prahlāda Mahārāja attained success through constant remembrance under the instruction of Nārada Muni. King Pṛthu succeeded through Deity worship, Hanumān through carrying out the Lord's orders, Arjuna through pure friendship with Kṛṣṇa, and Bāli Mahārāja by surrendering all his possessions. Whether patiently following the order of a spiritual master like Dhruva Mahārāja or simply engaging one's voice and hands in glorifying God, the ultimate perfection is gracefully awarded by the Supreme Lord to any surrendered soul.
