- A scorpion or a snake is also a living entity, and a sadhu is never satisfied when he sees another living entity killed, but Prahlada Maharaja said, - Even a sadhu is pleased when a snake or a scorpion is killed
- Actually, rice is not producing the scorpion; it is coming out under some chemical fermentation process

- Hiranyakasipu was killed because he was worse than a snake or a scorpion, and therefore everyone was happy. Now there was no need for the Lord to be angry
- His (a person who was engaged in criminal sense gratification) entrails are pulled out by the hounds and vultures of hell, even though he is still alive to see it, and he is subjected to torment by serpents, scorpions, gnats and other creatures that bite

- In darkness no one can see the things in a room. Therefore a person is afraid of snakes & scorpions, although there may not be such things. But in the light the things in the room can be clearly seen & the fear of snakes & scorpions is at once removed
- In sastra nonviolence is recommended, as in every scripture, but the serpent & the scorpion are allowed to be killed. You cannot say that milk is so nutritious, & we can drink - what is the harm if it is touched by serpents? No - the result will be death
- It is called vrscika-tandula-nyaya. Vrscika means scorpion, and tandula means rice. So "Life is coming from matter" - this is called vrscika-tandula-nyaya
- It is called vrscika-tandula-nyaya. You know that? Vrscika-tandula-nyaya. Vrscika means scorpion, and tandula means rice. Sometimes we see some heaps of rice, the scorpion is coming. But that is not that the rice has given birth to the scorpion
M
- May the glorification of the transcendental name, form, qualities and paraphernalia of the Supreme Personality of Godhead protect us from the influence of bad planets, meteors, envious human beings, serpents, scorpions, and animals like tigers and wolves
- My (Prahlada) father was just like a snake or a scorpion, & therefore now that he has been killed, everyone is happy. - Hiranyakasipu was a very dangerous demon who gave trouble to devotees, & when such a demon is killed even saintly persons are satisfied
P
- Prahlada Maharaja said that even a saintly person becomes pleased when a scorpion or a snake is killed. So if it is a fact that Nair is dead it is a matter of great pleasure for all devotees
- Prahlada Maharaja says, - Even a sadhu is pleased when a snake is killed or a scorpion is killed. So my father is just like snake and scorpion. So he's killed; therefore everyone is happy

- Saintly persons are very kind to all kinds of living entities, but they are not unhappy when a serpent or a scorpion is killed. It is not good for saintly persons to kill, but they are encouraged to kill demons, who are exactly like serpents and scorpions
- Scorpions, cobras, poisonous drugs and other animals whose bites are poisonous took the opportunity to drink whatever little poison had fallen and scattered from Lord Siva's hand while he was drinking
- Scorpions, large snakes and many other poisonous animals, as well as lions, tigers, boars and great elephants, all began falling upon the demigod soldiers, crushing everything
- Sometimes foolish people take it for granted that because scorpions are born from heaps of rice, the rice has produced the scorpions
- Such philosophers (impersonalists) push forward the argument that although cow dung is dead matter, sometimes it is found that scorpions come out of cow dung. Similarly, dead matter like nails and hair comes out of the living body
T
- The argument that the scorpion comes from cow dung, meaning that a living entity comes from matter, is also unsound
- The most important point in this verse (SB 7.9.14) is that although saintly persons never desire the killing of any living entity, they take pleasure in the killing of envious living entities like snakes and scorpions
- The mother scorpion lays eggs within the rice and by the proper fermentation of the rice the eggs give birth to several baby scorpions, which in due course come out. This does not mean that the rice gives birth to the scorpions
- The real fact is a scorpion lays down the egg within the rice, and by the fermentation it comes out, just like eggs, and the small creature comes out. And foolish creatures, they think it that the rice is producing scorpion. That is not possible
- The scorpion lays its eggs in piles of rice, and sometimes it is said that the scorpion is born out of rice. But the rice is not the cause of the scorpion. Actually, the eggs were laid by the mother. BG 1972 purports
- The scorpion which comes out of the cow dung is certainly a living entity, but the living entity does not come out of the cow dung
- Then why a sadhu is pleased when a sarpa, a scorpion, or snake is killed? The reason is that these two kinds of creatures, they bite innocent persons without any fault. Without any fault. Or for little fault
