Theme Analysis
The relationship between the finite living entity (jīva) and the Infinite Lord is governed by the principle of reciprocation based on desire. Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that while the living entity is minute, they possess the free will to desire. The Supreme Lord, acting as the Supersoul (Paramātmā) within the heart, serves as the witness and sanctioner, fulfilling these desires through the agency of material nature. This dynamic creates the cycle of birth and death, where the soul is awarded various bodily "machines" to facilitate specific types of enjoyment or suffering. However, this same principle of desire becomes the means of liberation when directed towards the Lord. When a devotee aligns their desire with the Lord's desire—surrendering their independent whim—the Lord reciprocates by revealing Himself personally, appearing in forms suitable to the devotee's love, and guiding them back to the spiritual realm.
