Theme Analysis

The annihilation of the cosmic manifestation reveals that the universe is temporary but the Supreme Lord is eternal. Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that everything emanates from Kṛṣṇa, rests in Him, and again enters Him when time dissolves the cosmic manifestation. Creation, maintenance, and annihilation occur by the Lord's will and energies, yet He remains transcendental, unchanged, and fully complete.

  • Eternal Cause: Kṛṣṇa exists before creation, during manifestation, and after annihilation. The universe changes, but the Supreme Lord remains the permanent source and shelter of all existence.
  • Cosmic Dissolution: At annihilation the gross elements enter subtle principles, and the whole manifestation enters the Lord's spiritual energy. This process shows that material existence has no independent permanence.
  • Unaffected Lord: The Lord creates, maintains, and annihilates through His potencies while remaining untouched by material qualities. His transcendental position is never altered by cosmic activity.
  • Supreme Shelter: Demigods, elements, bodies, and universes all depend on the Lord's presence. When His energy is withdrawn, the cosmic manifestation is dissolved, but Kṛṣṇa alone remains.
