- A person in the renounced order of life may try to avoid even a dress to cover himself. If he wears anything at all, it should be only a loincloth, and when there is no necessity, a sannyasi should not even accept a danda
- A sannyasi should avoid carrying anything but a danda and kamandalu
- A tridandi-sannyasi carries three dandas, signifying kaya-mano-vakya-body, mind and words. All of these should be offered to Visnu, and then one can begin devotional service
- According to Vedic astrological calculations, the twenty-four hours of a day and night are divided into sixty dandas. The days are again divided into 3,600 palas. The sun disc can be perceived in every sixty palas, and that time constitutes a danda
- According to Vedic astronomical calculations, the rotation of the sun consists of sixty dandas, and it is divided into thirty-six hundred palas
- After ten dandas (four hours) of the night have passed and Raghunatha dasa has seen the performance of puspanjali, he stands at the Simha-dvara gate to beg some alms to eat

- In addition, according to the exact regulative principles, one should add the jiva-danda to the tri-danda. These four dandas, bound together as one, are symbolic of unalloyed devotional service to the Lord
- In the Visnu Svami Vaisnava sampradaya, there are ten different kinds of sannyasa names and 108 different names for sannyasis who accept the tri-danda, the triple staff of sannyasa. This is approved by the Vedic rules
- Indirectly He (Caitanya) declared that within that eka-danda, one danda, four dandas existed as one. Accepting ekadanda-sannyasa without paratma-nistha (devotional service to Lord Krsna) is not acceptable to Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu
- It is the duty of the government that everyone is discharging his duties. That is king's business, raja-danda. If one does not observe the regulative principle, then he should not declare himself as brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra

- Mother earth gave Him (Lord Vamanadeva) a deerskin, and the demigod of the moon, who is the king of the forest, gave Him a brahma-danda (the rod of a brahmacari)
- Mother earth gave Him a deerskin, and the demigod of the moon, who is the king of the forest, gave Him a brahma-danda. His mother, Aditi, gave Him cloth for underwear, and the deity presiding over the heavenly kingdom offered Him an umbrella
S
- Simply by accepting the danda of the order of sannyasa, one is immediately transformed into Narayana. Therefore Mayavadi sannyasis address one another by saying om namo narayanaya. In this way one Narayana worships another Narayana
- So here are three dandas. One danda, person. There are four dandas. He is person, "I am." And the other three danda, my mind - kaya manah vakya - my body and my words
- So why the low-grade man cannot be offered tri-danda if he is qualified? If he has dedicated everything to Krsna, why he should be prohibited? No. That is not the sastric injunction. Sastric injunction is for anyone
- Sometimes the Krsna consciousness movement sends its representative sannyasis to foreign countries where the danda and kamandalu are not very much appreciated. We send our preachers in ordinary dress to introduce our books and philosophy

- The authentic biographies mention that Lord Caitanya accepted the danda (rod) and begging pot, symbolic of the sannyasa order, at the time He took sannyasa
- The bore in the copper measuring pot must be made with a probe weighing not more than four masa and measuring not longer than four fingers. This regulates the diameter of the hole. The pot is submerged in water, and the overflooding time is called a danda
- The idea (of four sticks within the sannyasa danda) is that "I surrender to my spiritual master or Krsna." Spiritual master is identical with Krsna because he gives true knowledge. Therefore he is as good as God
- The Mayavadi sannyasis generally carry one staff, or danda. Taking advantage of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s absence, Srila Nityananda Prabhu broke the staff into three parts and threw it into the river later known as the Danda-bhanga-nadi
- The Mayavadi sannyasis take one danda, or one rod, whereas the Vaisnava sannyasis take three dandas, or three rods
- The measuring pot for one nadika, or danda, can be prepared with a six-pala-weight (fourteen ounce) pot of copper, in which a hole is bored with a gold probe weighing four masa and measuring four fingers long
- The river Bhargi, or Bharginadi, came to be known as the Danda-bhanga-nadi after Lord Caitanya bathed in its waters. It is situated six miles north of Jagannatha Puri. The reason for the change in names is given as follows - CC Madhya 5.142-143
- The sun rises in steps consisting of sixty palas. Sixty palas equal one danda, and eight dandas comprise one prahara
- The word danda means rod or pole. A rod or pole falls straight; similarly, when one offers obeisances to his superior with all eight angas (parts) of the body, he performs what is called dandavat
- They bow down like stick. This is called dandavat. Danda means "stick"; vat means "like." When you fall down, just like a stick falls, before superior, that is called dandavat. Not by simply saying dandavat... Eh, one must fall down
- This danda, there are four sticks. One stick is representing the jiva soul, another stick is representing body, another stick is mind, and another stick, speech
- This is another way of measuring the duration of a danda, just as time is measured by sand in a glass
- This sannyasa tridanda, three dandas. Not three - four. Three is kaya - body; mind; kaya, mana, and words; and one he is personally. Therefore there are four sticks within the danda. Those who have taken sannyasa, they know it
- Those who are completely dedicated to the lotus feet of Krsna in service are actually sannyasis. As a matter of formality, the devotee accepts the sannyasa dress as previous acaryas did. He also accepts the three dandas
- Thus Raghunatha dasa thought deeply about how to escape, and one night while he was sleeping on the Durga-mandapa, the priest Yadunandana Acarya entered the house when only four dandas remained until the end of the night
- To preach, such sannyasis may accept the symbols of sannyasa, such as the danda and kamandalu, or sometimes they may not. Generally the Vaisnava sannyasis, being paramahamsas, are automatically called babajis, and they do not carry a kamandalu or danda

- We have taken this danda. This is our determination. You cannot stop us. That's it. - Because we know this is the only welfare activity to the human society. You make talk, madmen. We don't care for it
- When Lord Caitanya accepted the renounced order, Paramananda Puri offered Him the danda. Paramananda Puri was always engaged in meditation, and Sri Svarupa was always engaged in chanting the Hare Krsna maha-mantra
- When one falls down before a superior just like a stick, one's offering of obeisances is called dandavat. Danda means "stick," and vat means "like"
- When the pot is placed on water, the time before the water overflows in the pot is called one danda
