- O King Rahugana, without taking upon one's head the dust from the lotus feet of a pure devotee (a mahajana or mahatma), one cannot attain devotional service
- Of the twelve authorized devotees - Lord Brahma, Narada, Lord Siva, Kapila, Manu and so on - Prahlada Maharaja is understood to be the best example
- One must follow the path of the mahajanas. The mahajanas are those who have taken to the path of devotional service
- One must understand the position of the Lord through the authorities, or mahajanas. As stated in Srimad-Bhagavatam (SB 1.3.28), ete camsa-kalah pumsah krsnas tu bhagavan svayam

- So-called mahajanas, or authorities
- Some of our devotees, they left, that "There is no bhajana here," and asking me my blessing to find out another guru. So he wants my blessing for find out a guru. So this rascaldom is no good. So best thing is that mahajano yena gatah sa panthah
- Sometimes fruitive workers, dry philosophers, nondevotees, mystic yogis and persons attached to material opulence, women and money are considered mahajanas. But Srimad-Bhagavatam (SB 6.3.25) gives a statement about such unauthorized mahajanas
- Sometimes people accept as mahajanas demons like Putana, Trnavarta, Vatsa, Baka, Aghasura, Dhenuka, Kaliya and Pralamba
- Sometimes people accept as mahajanas those who have been designated by Srila Vrndavana dasa Thakura as dhanga-vipras - imposter brahmanas

- Sometimes they (offenders) consider such mahajanas very conservative, or they create their own mahajanas. In this way they ignore the principles of the parampara system. This is a great misfortune for everyone
- Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu Himself accepted invitations from sudra-mahajanas, and this confirms the fact that anyone initiated by a Vaisnava mantra can be accepted as a brahmana. One can accept an invitation from such a person
- Sri Madhavendra Puri was a real mahajana because he understood the Absolute Truth properly and throughout his life behaved like a pure devotee. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu approved the method of Sri Madhavendra Puri
- Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura gives the following commentary on this passage (CC Madhya 17.185). A sadhu, or honest man, is called a mahajana or a mahatma. The mahatma is described thus by Lord Krsna in the Bhagavad-gita - BG 9.13
- Srila Madhavendra Puri was a real mahajana, but misguided people cannot distinguish the real from the unreal. But a person who is awakened to Krsna consciousness can understand the real religious path chalked out by the Lord and His pure devotees
T
- The Absolute Truth, or the Supreme Personality of Godhead, is realized by hearing about Him in all submission and love from a bona fide authority who is a representative of the twelve great authorities mentioned in the Srimad-Bhagavatam
- The conclusion is that one should follow one of these twelve mahajanas in order to be successful
- The mahajanas, or great personalities, are Brahma, Lord Siva, Narada Muni, Manu, the Kumaras, Prahlada Maharaja, Bali Maharaja, Yamaraja, Bhisma, Janaka, Sukadeva Gosvami and Kapila Muni

- These mahajanas follow the principles set forth by the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krsna, in Bhagavad-gita
- These mahajanas, as they have prescribed, that is the real way for understanding Krsna, or spiritual service. So we are following the Brahma-sampradaya, the first, Svayambhu. Brahma. Brahma, then Narada; from Narada, Vyasadeva. In this way
- They (people who accept imitators as mahajanas) accept godless cheaters who present themselves as incarnations of God and cheat foolish people within the material world by word jugglery. Thus many rascals are accepted as mahajanas

- Twelve authorized devotees
V
- Vaisnava should follow his previous mahajana, authority. That is Vaisnavism. We don't manufacture ideas. We don't commit such rascaldom
- Vasudeva, or Lord Sri Krsna, is the original Supreme Person, as now confirmed by a mahajana, and therefore both the neophytes and the pure devotees must try to follow in his footsteps. That is the way of the devotional line
W
- We belong to pure devotional service group, following the footprints of great mahajanas. Our purpose should be that we are in one side and all others they are on the other side
- We cannot follow asadhu-marga. We must follow sadhu-marga. Mahajano yena gatah sa panthah. We cannot follow an upstart, manufacturing some song, manufacturing some ideas. We cannot follow that
- We cannot manufacture our own idea. That is blasphemy, sahajiya. Yata mat tata pat. These things are not accepted by mahajana. Mahajana means who follows the previous mahajana. This is the system
- We cannot very easily understand the actual truth of religious systems, but if we follow these mahajanas, we can understand
- We don't manufacture anything. We simply follow. Mahajano yena gatah sa panthah. Mahajanas. Great personalities, great authorities, that is our process
- We have to accept these authorities, quotation from Srimad-Bhagavatam, Vedic literature, and quoted by authority, Lord Caitanya. We have to follow in that way. Mahajano yena gatah sa panthah
- We have to follow the mahajanas, the great authorities, if we want to receive transcendental knowledge
- We have to follow. People are searching after God. They do not know God. They are asking this question, "Can you show me God?" So, so many questions are there about God, but here is God, pointed out by Arjuna, a mahajana
- We have to gain understanding through the words of our predecessors. There are twelve mahajanas, or authorities, of whom Brahma is one
- We must belong to one these sampradayas. Sampradaya-vihina ye mantras te nisphala matah: if you do not belong to a bona fide sampradaya, originating from a mahajana, then your religious process is useless. You cannot concoct some religious system
- We must follow the path of mahajana, the instruction of the acarya. Then we can become purified. And unless we are purified, there is no question of pure devotional service
- Where is the difficulty? Mahajano yena gatah sa panthah. You follow the path of mahajana - Prahlada Maharaja, Janaka Maharaja, Bhisma. There are grhasthas, there are brahmacaris, sannyasi
- Whether you follow the Christian mahajanas or the Vedic mahajanas, it doesn't matter. But you have to follow the mahajanas. If a Christian says, "I don't believe in St. Thomas," what kind of Christian is he
- Who is mahajana? Mahajana. In India, a mahajana is accepted who can give you loan, money. He's called mahajana. Not that, that all. It is, it is a perverted word. But mahajana means a, one who is pure devotee of the Lord
Y
- Yajnavalkya and Jaimini and other compilers of the religious scriptures cannot know the secret, confidential religious system of the twelve mahajanas because they are bewildered by the illusory energy of the Supreme Personality of Godhead
- Yamaraja is mahajana in this sense: All the sinful living entities are brought before him, and according to the gravity of criminality, sinful action, he punishes. Just like magistrate
- Yamaraja is the representative of Krsna, a servant of Krsna. He is Vaisnava. Yamaraja, we are very much afraid of Yamaraja, but he Vaisnava. Not only Vaisnava, but he's one of the mahajanas
- You follow the way Arjuna acted and the way Arjuna understood Krsna. Then mahajano yena gatah sa panthah: (CC Madhya 17.186) you are following the mahajana - you are on the real path
- You have to follow the original acaryas, mahajanas, then you shall be on the right path; otherwise you are mislead
- You haven't got to find out who is mahajana. The mahajana means who is following another mahajana, say follow Arjuna. He is mahajana
- You hear different types of philosophy from different sources. Na casav munir yasya matam na bhinnam. One cannot be accepted as a great saintly person unless he puts forward his own theory. Therefore, mahajano yena gatah sa panthah
- You learn something about devotional service, but the devotional service should be executed by following mahajana. Therefore we are Rupanugas. We follow the footsteps of Sri Rupa Gosvami, Sanatana Gosvami
