- A child is born and the material nature is killing this child every moment. The child has grown, two years old. That means material nature has already killed this child for two years. How you can stop this?
- A cloud may rest in the sky, but that does not mean that the sky and the cloud are one and the same. Similarly, the qualitative material nature and its products are never identical with the Supreme Lord
- A common man is struck with wonder by the wonderful action of material nature, and he gives all credit to the cosmic manifestation. The learned Krsna conscious person, however, knows well that behind the cosmic manifestation is the brain of Krsna
- A conditioned living being is under the full control of material nature, represented by eternal time and activities under the dictation of different modes of nature
- A foolish person does not know that he is completely under the bondage of material nature and that after death material nature will impose upon him a certain type of body, which he will have to accept
- A living entity is as eternal as the Supreme Lord, but due to his forgetfulness he is put into this material nature and transmigrates from one body to another, and when the body is destroyed, he thinks that he is also destroyed
- A living entity is not forced to come into the material world. He makes his own choice, being attracted by beautiful women. Every living entity has the freedom to be attracted by material nature or to stand as a hero and resist that attraction
- A living entity merged either in the material nature or in the spiritual nature does not give up his individuality. Real individuality is to understand oneself to be the eternal servitor of God. This information is received from the mouth of Caitanya
- A man in his healthy condition, he is happy, but in his diseased condition he is not happy, similarly, we, being part and parcel of the Supreme, we are naturally jubilant, but on account of being contacted in material nature, we are morose
- A naturalist can see the general course of material nature simply by studying a piece of fruit. A small fruit develops from a flower, grows, stays for some time on a branch, becomes full-grown, ripens, then begins to dwindle
- A person (in Krsna consiousness) may appear to see all separate manifestations of the material nature, but in each and every instance he is conscious of Krsna, knowing that everything is the manifestation of Krsna's energy. BG 1972 purports
- A person fixed in spiritual knowledge will not be attracted by the allurement of material nature in the form of beautiful women and the sex pleasure enjoyed in their association
- A person who desires elevation to the heavenly planets worships various demigods, and material nature may be pleased to offer such devotees their desired positions
- A woman is first impregnated by a man, and then a child is produced. As such, the child produced by the woman is part and parcel of the man. Similarly, the living entities are apparently produced by the material nature, but not independently
- Academically, one may be very learned, but because of his long association with material nature, he is in bondage. BG 1972 purports
- According to Kapila, material nature is eternal and all-powerful. Originally there is no spirit, and matter has no cause. Matter itself is the chief cause of everything. It is the all-pervading cause of all causes
- According to one's desires and activities, material nature places one in various residential quarters. The being himself is the cause of his attaining such residential quarters and his attendant enjoyment or suffering. BG 1972 purports
- According to Vedic conception, the material nature, mother, is worshiped
- According to Vedic conception, the material nature, mother, is worshiped. There are seven kinds of mother, not one mother. Adau-mata, real mother, from whom I have taken birth, adau-mata. Guroh patni, the wife of spiritual master
- Acknowledge that you are limited and subordinate to material nature and to God. No one can be equal to or greater than God. So be submissive
- Activities of the living being are different varieties of aptitudes which can entrap or liberate the living being within and without material nature
- Activities out of these three qualities of material nature, they are called karma, work
- Actually everyone is dependent on the mercy of the Supreme Lord, but when one forgets his relation with the Lord, he becomes dependent on the conditions of material nature
- Actually no one is a free man, for everyone is under the spell of material nature, but one who is surrendered to Krsna cannot be touched by maya. He, of all men, is free. If one places himself in sunlight, there is no question of darkness
- Actually one suffers for want of food when material nature, under the order of the father, refuses to supply him food. It is the living entity's position that determines whether food will be supplied or not
- Actually, death means annihilation of the present body. As soon as the present body stops functioning and mixes with the five elements of material nature, the living entity within the body accepts another body
- Actually, we are all trying to attain that victory in order to counteract the onslaught of material nature. The ultimate victory is to conquer birth, death, disease and old age, but we have neglected this important point
- After all, since we are being carried away by these waves (of material nature), what is the meaning of being jubilant or morose
- After impregnation, material nature delivers all kinds of living entities, beginning from the greatest living creature, Lord Brahma, down to the insignificant ant, in all varieties of form
- After the destruction of the material body, this spirit soul is one. The spirit soul, due to contact with material nature, gets different types of bodies. When one can see this, he attains spiritual vision. BG 1972 purports
- After the SPG impregnates material nature with His internal potency, material nature delivers the sum total of the cosmic intelligence (Hiranmaya). This takes place in material nature when she is agitated by the destinations of the conditioned souls
- After the winding up of material nature, these living entities are again given a chance to act in the material world and prepare themselves to enter into the spiritual world. That is the mystery of this material creation. BG 1972 purports
- Aham mameti (SB 5.5.8): "I am this body, and in this bodily relationship he is my master, he is my servant, she is my wife, and he is my son." All these conceptions are temporary due to the inevitable change of body and the arrangement of material nature
- Akrura thought, "As soon as I arrive in Vrndavana, I will get down from this chariot and fall prostrate to offer my obeisances to the Supreme Lord, the master of material nature and all living entities"
- All living entities act exactly according to the directions of prakrti, material nature, because in the material world we are fully under a higher control
- All living entities are creatures of the material nature, and consequently they are bewildered by the wonderful display of the three modes of material nature. Such bewilderment is mentioned in the Bhagavad-gita - BG 7.13
- All material nature is divided into these eight elements (five gross elements: earth, water, fire, air and ether and three subtle elements: mind, intelligence and false ego) which together comprise the inferior nature, or energy, of the Lord
- All of them (the material elements, the living entities and material nature) together are recipients of power from the Supreme Personality of Godhead and are thus able to manifest their individual capacities
- All the activities in both the spiritual and material world are certainly conducted by the orders of the Supreme Personality of Godhead through the agency of either the material or spiritual nature
- All the modes of material nature-goodness, passion and ignorance-are emanations from the Supreme Lord Krsna, but Krsna is not subject to material nature. BG 1972 purports
- All the varieties of life, they are under the control of the material nature, and therefore you see varieties of life
- Although a follower may not be a liberated person, if he follows the supreme, liberated God, his actions are naturally liberated from the contamination of the material nature. Lord Caitanya therefore says: "By My order you may become a spiritual master."
- Although all living entities are also transcendental, they are neither original nor infallible. The living entities are apt to fall down under the clutches of material nature, but the Lord is never like that
- Although material nature is conducted by the three qualities - sattva-guna, rajo-guna and tamo-guna - nature is not independent
- Although material nature is inert, it is the cause of enjoyment and salvation for many living creatures. Its activities are beyond the conception of sense perception, but still one may guess at them by superior intelligence
- Although one follows the dictations of material nature, he happily thinks himself the master or husband of material nature
- Although qualitatively one with the Supreme Lord, the living entity has the tendency to lord it over material nature; however, being infinitesimal, he is actually controlled by material nature
- Although spirit soul, we have voluntarily accepted this material body and by accepting it have also accepted the threefold miseries of material nature. Exactly when we accepted it and how we accepted it cannot be traced out
- Although superficially the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the living entity, material nature and time appear to be different, nothing is different from the Supreme. But the Supreme is always different from everything. BG 1972 purports
- Although the causal and element-supplying features exist in material nature by dint of the glance of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the Lord is never affected by glancing over the material qualities
- Although the devotees of Lord Siva are able to obtain many material acquisitions, we should know that such devotees are simply collecting products manufactured by the three qualities
- Although the living entity is the cause of his various types of bodies, the body is given by material nature according to the order of the Lord
- Although the rod is not fire, it becomes red-hot and acts like fire itself. Similarly, all the actions and reactions of material nature are not actually the work of material nature but are actions and reactions of the energy of the Supreme Lord
- Although within the material nature, one who is thus situated in full knowledge of the Paramatma and atma is never affected by the modes of material nature, for he is always situated in My transcendental loving service
- Always you should remember that we cannot imagine about God: "I think God is like this." This is nonsense. You have no thinking power. You are under the grip of material nature
- Among these expansions (Vasudeva, Sankarsana, Pradyumna and Aniruddha), Vasudeva is considered the origin of the material nature. Therefore Sankaracarya says that Sankarsana, Pradyumna and Aniruddha must be creations of that original cause
- An insignificant insect has a desire for sense gratification and even a great personality like Lord Brahma also wants to dominate this material nature
- And what is the main business of material nature? Just to beat you with shoes. That is nature. Therefore we are suffering in this material world. Because we have taken shelter of the material nature
- Another important point mentioned in this connection is anindaya - we should not criticize others' methods of religion. There are different types of religious systems operating under different qualities of material nature
- Any country where people indulge in unnecessary killing of animals will have to suffer from wars and pestilence imposed by material nature
- Any kind of material phenomenon that we observe is subject to these six transformations of material nature - it comes into being, grows, stays for a while, produces some by-products, dwindles, and then vanishes
- Any man who has perfect knowledge of the constitution of the individual soul, the Supersoul, and nature - both material and spiritual - is called a dhira or a most sober man. Such a man is never deluded by the change of bodies. BG 1972 purports
- Anything transcendental to material nature is called inconceivable, whereas arguments are all mundane. Since mundane arguments cannot touch transcendental subject matters, one should not try to understand transcendental subjects through mundane arguments
- As a cloud has a beginning and an end, this material nature also has a beginning and an end. When the clouds disappear and the sky clears, we see everything as it is
- As a friend, I can understand my position as spirit soul, seeing that somehow or other I have come into contact with material nature, try to get free from material entanglement by acting in such a way as to disentangle myself. In this case I am my friend
- As a result (of living under certain circumstances and enjoying under the spell of material nature), he (every living entity) is suffering different kinds of happiness and distress, under the illusion of sense enjoyment. BG 1972 purports
- As a woman cannot produce children unless impregnated by a man, material nature cannot produce or manifest anything unless it is impregnated by the Supreme Personality of Godhead in the form of the time factor
- As confirmed in Aitareya Upanisad (1.1), sa aiksata: "The Lord glanced at material nature." The cosmic manifestation did not exist before His glance; therefore His glance is not materially contaminated
- As confirmed in the Gita, the fragmental portions of the Supreme exist eternally (sanatana) and are called ksara; that is, they have a tendency to fall down into material nature. BG 1972 purports
- As described by God Himself in Bhagavad-gita (BG 7.4-5): besides the inferior nature, O mighty-armed Arjuna, there is a superior energy of Mine, which consists of all living entities who are struggling with material nature and are sustaining the universe
- As far as the living entities are concerned, they are impregnated into this material nature, and as a result of their past deeds they take different positions. Thus the activities of this material world begin. BG 1972 purports
- As for the subordinate living entities, they fight under the arrangement of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Victory or defeat is not actually theirs; it is an arrangement by the Lord through the agency of material nature
- As in the individual body the consciousness is the source of all energies of the body, so the supreme consciousness of the Lord is the source of all energies in material nature
- As Krsna states in Bhagavad-gita (BG 9.10): "This material nature is working under My direction, O son of Kunti, and it is producing all moving and unmoving beings. By its rule this manifestation is created and annihilated again and again"
- As living entities, we perform many activities, but we have a tendency to fall down into material nature. God has no such tendency
- As living entities, we perform many activities, but we have a tendency to fall down into material nature. God has no such tendency - CC Intro
- As long as one is full of anxiety, one should know that he is still under the grip of material nature. And as soon as one is free from all anxiety, one should know that he is liberated
- As long as one is under the control of material nature, his occupational duty is different from that of a person not under such control. One's real dharma, or occupational duty, is described in Srimad-Bhagavatam - dharmam tu saksad bhagavat-pranitam
- As long as the living entity is entangled in the fruitive activities of so-called happiness and distress, he will receive a particular type of body in which to endure the three kinds of suffering due to material nature - tri-tapa-yantrana
- As long as the living entity is trying to master material nature, there is no possibility of his becoming servant of the Supreme. Service to the Lord is rendered in pure consciousness of one's spiritual identity
- As long as we are in the material conception of life, we are not actually enjoying ourselves but are simply becoming more and more entangled in material nature
- As soon as one engages in serious devotional service of the Lord, naturally the propensity to falsely claim lordship over material nature disappears. That detachment is called vairagya
- As soon as one seriously engages himself in devotional service to the Lord in full Krsna consciousness, at once he becomes freed from all contamination of material nature. BG 1972 purports
- As soon as there is creation by the Lord's glancing over the material nature, immediately the living entities spring up in their different living conditions, just as different types of vegetation grow after a rainfall
- As soon as you encroach on God's Property, calling it your own, material nature, the police action, will be there: "You are not the proprietor." You can simply have what is allotted to you by God
- As spirit souls we are part and parcel of the Supreme Spirit, but due to our desire to enjoy this material world, we have been put into material nature. Yet in whatever species of life we may be, Krsna is the Father
- As stated in Bhagavad-gita (BG 3.27), prakrteh kriyamanani gunaih karmani sarvasah. According to the modes of material nature we acquire, the material nature gives us facility for material enjoyment
- As stated in Bhagavad-gita, karanam guna-sango 'sya sad-asad-yoni-janmasu: "This is due to his association with that material nature. Thus he meets with good and evil among various species" - BG 13.22
- As the Bhagavatam says, one should not attempt to become a father, or mother, or teacher unless he is able to save his children from death, from the grip of material nature
- As the material nature is manifested and not manifested, similarly this universal form of Krsna is manifested and unmanifested. It is not eternally situated in the spiritual sky like Krsna's other forms. BG 1972 purports
- As the reflection of the sun appears to be on the water but is many millions of miles away from the water, so one engaged in the bhakti-yoga process is nirguna, or unaffected by the qualities of material nature
- As the source of the material elements, the material energy is known as pradhana, and as the source of the manifestations of the material energy it is known as maya. But material nature is inert in that she has no independent power to do anything
- As yogurt is prepared when milk is mixed with a culture, the form of Lord Siva expands when the Supreme Personality of Godhead is in touch with material nature
- Asuras do not know that their bodies consist of the five elements of material nature and that when they fall they become objects of pastimes for dogs and vultures
- At a time beyond memory, after agitating the material nature into three qualities, the Supreme Personality of Godhead placed the semen of innumerable living entities within the womb of that material nature
- At least the Christian religion accept that supreme father, God, and the material nature is mother. And we are all sons. Not only human beings, every living being, even the dogs. This is philosophy, real philosophy
- At that time (during death) the fragmental portion (jivatma) comes under the dictation of material nature, and prakrti (nature) gives us the type of body for which we are fit
- At that time (of death), whatever one has created in this life is lost, and one must automatically accept a new body by the force of material nature
- At the end of each millennium the creative forces, namely the material nature and the living entities who struggle in the material nature, all merge together into the transcendental body of the Lord
- At the present moment, the real master is material nature
- Atheistic Sankhya philosophers like Kapila analyze the material elements very scrutinizingly and thereby come to the conclusion that material nature is the cause of everything
- Atheistic, materialistic Sankhyaites conclude that material nature is the cause of all causes
- Avyaktat sanatanah. This material nature has a beginning and an end, but that spiritual nature is sanatanah - eternal. It has neither beginning nor end. How is this possible
B
- Because both the material nature and the Supreme Lord are unborn, it is not possible that they can beget the living entities
- Because everyone is under the grip of prakrti, material nature, how he can change? It is not possible. So that is the mistake of the modern civilization. They do not know that by passing laws or giving some moral instruction, we cannot change the habits
- Because He (the Lord) glances over material nature, there is undoubtedly activity on the part of the Supreme Lord, but He has nothing to do with the manifestation of the material world directly. BG 1972 purports
- Because I (Vasudeva) am afraid of Kamsa You have appeared just to deliver me from that fear. You do not belong to this material world; You are the same person who brings about the cosmic manifestation simply by glancing over material nature
- Because I have accepted material nature's protection, I am getting different types of body. This life I have got this body; next life I may get another body
- Because Lord Visnu is in no way touched by matter, He is not subject to enjoy material nature the way the living entities do
- Because material energy (nature) is so powerful, it can resist the unauthorized plans of the atheists and baffle the knowledge of "planning commissions." BG 1972 purports
- Because of the actions and reactions of the mode of ignorance, whether the living entities are awake or sleeping, they can see only the workings of material nature; they cannot see Your Lordship
- Because prakrti (material nature) is dull and inert, it cannot actually be the cause of the material world. Lord Krsna shows His mercy by infusing His energy into the dull, inert material nature
- Because the living entity tends to be controlled by material nature, he cannot at any stage become one with the Supreme Lord
- Because the Lord possesses in full the six opulences of wealth, strength, fame, beauty, knowledge and renunciation, He alone is beyond the spell of material nature
- Because we are developed consciousness, we do not keep in natural life. We accept so many unnatural things. Therefore our knowledge becomes covered by unnatural material nature
- Because you are limited, therefore you are under the control of material nature. If he keeps his limited existence, that is nice. But unnecessarily if he wants to become unlimited, that is artificial
- Because you have got such deep personal interest with that engagement of work, you want to see that it is done nicely without any hindrance of selfish motivation, never mind all kinds of conditions of the material nature
- Before the creation of the cosmic manifestation, the Lord said, 'I existed, and the total material energy, material nature and the living entities all existed in Me'
- Before the creation there were no material minds or material eyes; therefore the mind by which the Supreme Personality of Godhead desired to create is transcendental, and the eyes with which He glanced over material nature are also transcendental
- Beginning from Brahma down to this age, the living entities are struggling with the forces of material nature
- Behind material nature is the Supreme Personality of Godhead; but one's victory and loss under the influence of sattva-guna, rajo-guna and tamo-guna are reactions of these modes, not of the Supreme Lord's partiality
- Behind this material, big material nature, cosmic manifestation, there is God. That is Krsna, and accepted by all authorities. We have to accept things which is accepted by authorities
- Being all-powerful, He (God) never comes under the control of material nature. Indeed, material nature is but one display of His inconceivable energies
- Being all-powerful, He (God) never comes under the control of material nature. Indeed, material nature is but one display of His inconceivable energies - CC Intro
- Being completely under the grip of material nature, the living entity must evolve again from the lower species to the higher species until he at last returns to human life and gets the chance to be freed from the material clutches
- Being conducted by divine will, material nature, although inferior, acts so wonderfully in the construction and destruction of the cosmic manifestation. BG 1972 purports
- Being influenced by the three modes of material nature, the living entity tries to dominate material nature, but actually he is not the purusa (enjoyer) but prakrti, as described in Bhagavad-gita (BG 7.5): apareyam itas tv anyam prakrtim viddhi me param
- Being marginal potency, as soon as the living entity is freed from the control of material nature, he is put under the guidance of the spiritual nature. The guidance of the spiritual nature is called daivim prakrtim, divine nature. BG 1972 purports
- Being thus covered by material energy, one cannot possibly overcome its influence. As previously stated, both the material and spiritual natures, being emanations from the Supreme Personality of Godhead, are eternal. BG 1972 purports
- Being too attached to family members, society, country, etc., he (the human being) wants to win over the invincible material nature by the aid of bodily strength, children, wife, relatives, etc

- Bhaya means "to become afraid of." That is material nature. We are always afraid of. Therefore we have military strength. Your country is very busy in that way, how to protect. Everyone should be, protection
- Bijam means seed; Krsna is the seed of everything. In contact with material nature, the seed fructifies into various living entities, movable and inert. BG 1972 purports
- Both features of material nature, as the cause of the material creation and as the source of its elements, exist due to the glance of the Supreme Personality of Godhead
- Both forms of material nature, namely gross (earth, etc.) and subtle (mind, etc.), are products of the inferior energy. BG 1972 purports

- Both the living entities and material nature existed before this cosmos was manifested
- Both the living entity and material nature are explained as prakrti, the energy of the Supreme Lord, but one of the two, the jiva, is conscious. The other prakrti is not conscious. That is the difference. BG 1972 Introduction
- Both the material and spiritual natures, being emanations from the Supreme Personality of Godhead, are eternal
- Brahma and Siva, although almost as greatly powerful as Visnu, are within the control of the material energy of the Supreme Lord. The conception of many gods controlling the many departments of material nature is ill conceived of by the foolish pantheist

- Brahma, it is I, the Personality of Godhead, who was existing before the creation, when there was nothing but Myself. Nor was there the material nature, the cause of this creation
- By contact with material nature the living entities exhibit varied symptoms of the disease of material consciousness. To cure this material disease is the supreme object of human life
- By endeavoring to dominate material nature, the living entity simply struggles hard for existence. Indeed, he struggles so hard to enjoy himself that he cannot even enjoy the material resources
- By engagement in devotional service in full Krsna consciousness, he is immediately situated in the transcendental position, and his unlawful desire to control material nature is removed. BG 1972 purports
- By His partial plenary expansion (Maha-visnu), He enters into material nature, and then into each and every universe (as Garbhodakasayi Visnu), and then (as Ksirodakasayi Visnu) into all the elements, including every atom of matter
- By His specific functional expansion He touches the material energy, and thus the living entities, who are His parts and parcels, are impregnated into material nature
- By long association with this material nature, we are thinking that "There is no God," "I have nothing to do with God. I am independent of God." We are thinking like that. But actually this is not a fact. The gross material nature is very strong
- By practice of Krsna consciousness yoga, one can know everything in full-namely the Absolute Truth, the living entities, the material nature, and their manifestations with paraphernalia. BG 1972 purports

- By surrendering unto the Lord, one is happy and liberated, but by surrendering unto material nature the living entity suffers
- By the cooperation of material nature, which is considered to be prakrti, and the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is considered the purusa, all the affairs of the universe are going on nicely in their proper order
- By the deluding power of the external material nature we forget that the material condition of life is the most undesirable perplexity

- Devotee means he is able to tolerate all kinds of discomfort and whims of the material nature, and because he is so much absorbed in serving Krishna, he takes no time to become angry or take offense with others or find out some fault, no
- Devotional service is not inaction. Anything done in the service of the Lord becomes at once purified of its material nature. The material conception is due to ignorance only
- Devotional service, or Krsna consciousness, can help one gain such release (from the bondage of material nature). BG 1972 purports
- Dictated by the material nature, we are acting in some way and thereby creating another resultant action, means another body. In this way it is going on. That is called samsrtih
- Dictating means you voluntarily become subjected to the dictation of this material nature. She cannot dictate if you are strong

- Eternally liberated living entities never come into contact with material nature, and therefore they do not have any experience of material life. They are eternally engaged in Krsna consciousness, or devotional service to the Lord
- Even a brahmana is also under the control of material nature. But the same brahmana, when he becomes a Vaisnava, a devotee, he becomes the best of the brahmanas
- Even if we want to live here amid miseries, material nature will not allow us to do so. It will oblige us to change bodies and enter another atmosphere full of miserable conditions
- Even if you do not want, you cannot, I mean to say, combat all these, I mean to say, attacks of the material nature. That is the way of material nature. Therefore self-realization is the opportunity of this human form of life
- Even in the material nature there is a chance of an independent choice by the living entity, and according to his choice the material energy offers him different varieties of material bodies
- Even the demigods are not able to understand the SPG. They can speculate to the limits of their imperfect senses and can reach the opposite conclusion of impersonalism, of something not manifested by the 3 qualities of material nature. BG 1972 purports
- Even though so-called philosophers and scientists try to surmount the onslaught of material nature, they have not been able to do so

- Every living entity, according to his past activities, has a different body, created by this material nature, and the entity can enjoy or suffer according to his past deeds. BG 1972 purports
- Every one of us, we are now dogs of the material nature, or just like street dogs. Therefore we should take shelter of the big master, Krsna. Then it will be all right
- Everyone has achieved a certain type of body given by material nature according to the instructions of the Supreme Personality of Godhead
- Everyone has to die because everyone is fully under the control of material nature, yet everyone thinks that he is independent, that whatever he likes he can do, that he will never meet death but live forever, and so on
- Everyone is getting a particular type of body. So one may say: "This body is very nice," "This body is not so nice," and "This body is very good." So why it is so? Because according to the association of the material nature
- Everyone is subject to the miseries offered by material nature, but because the activities of miscreants, such as killing innocent people and animals or torturing women, are harmful to everyone and a source of pain for devotees, the Lord comes down

- External maya is exhibited in two phases - jiva-maya, the living entities, and guna-maya, the material world. In the material world there is prakrti (material nature) and pradhana (the ingredients of material nature)
F

- Fastened by the Supreme Personality of Godhead to the machine of material nature according to the results of their fruitive acts, they (the planets and stars) are driven around the polestar by the wind and will continue to be so until the end of creation

- He (a highly advanced devotee) can understand that in the material world there is nothing good; everything is bad due to its being contaminated by material nature
- He (Krsna) is the controller of this material nature and of all living entities. He is also the controller of inexhaustible time, and He is full of all opulences and all potencies. BG 1972 purports
- He (Krsna) says in Bhagavad-gita that the foolish deride Him, considering Him a mortal being. He is not a mortal being, nor does He come before us with a body produced of material nature
- He (Lord Caitanya) has said that anyone who accepts the transcendental body of the Personality of Godhead to be made of material nature commits the greatest offense at the lotus feet of Visnu
- He (the devotee) is unlike either the deluded fruitive worker or the baffled empiricist. He is above these servants of material nature because he prefers to serve God, the master of material nature. He seeks the substance and does not wish to give it up
- He (the living entitiy) is called the Supreme Lord's marginal energy. According to his identification with material or spiritual nature, he receives a material or spiritual body. BG 1972 purports

- He is forced to accept a certain kind of body by the material nature. That he does not know. This is non-Aryan. Like dog: he does not know that why he has got this dog's body. He simply has learned how to bark, that's all
- He is untouched by the contamination of material nature because of His spiritual potency, and because He is not subjected to material vision, He is known as transcendental. He has no material activities, nor has He a material form or name
- He who is conversant with the science of Krsna knows perfectly well that he is not the body, that he is part and parcel of Krsna, that his real relationship is with Krsna, and he must remain aloof from the three qualities of material nature

- Here in the material world, material nature forces the living entity to change his body due to his different desires for sense gratification
- Here the material nature is you take your birth or appearance and again disappear and again appear. This is the instruction of spiritual life. The spirit soul is there, but it is not getting a permanent settlement. This is material world

- How they're (who are in this material world) criminals? Because either one is rich or poor, he's subjected to the tribulations of this material nature. It is not that the rich man will not become old and the simply poor man will become old. No
- How your problem is solved? The real problem is that I am forced to accept different types of body. Janma-mrtyu-jara-vyadhi (BG 13.9). And as soon as I accept body, I have to be under the tribulation of material nature
- However you may go on making this body very strong and stout, still, you cannot maintain it. It will be finished today or tomorrow or a hundred years after. You cannot protect it. This is material nature

- I offer my obeisances unto Him, because the Supreme Personality of Godhead is transcendental to material nature and the living entities, because He is devoid of such a material body, and because He is always glorious in His spiritual qualities

- If one is engaged in the advancement of spiritual knowledge, there will be so many insults and much dishonor from others. This is expected because material nature is so constituted. BG 1972 purports

- In the more mature stage of Krsna consciousness one is not affected by such conditions of material nature, being always fixed in his idea and determined to push on on Krsna's behalf despite all kinds of unfavorable circumstances
- In the Parama-samhita it is described that material nature, which is used for others' purposes, is factually inert and always subject to transformation
- In the previous chapter (SB 3.28), material nature, the spirit and the Supreme Lord, or Supersoul, are analytically studied
- In the scriptures the Lord says that those attracted by this material nature are undergoing a hard struggle for existence. BG 1972 purports
- In the Seventh Chapter (of Bhagavad-gita), Krsna has explained that He impregnates the living entities into material nature. This is done by His looking upon material nature. BG 1972 purports
- In the third six chapters (of Bhagavad-gita), knowledge, renunciation, the activities of material nature and transcendental nature, and devotional service were described. BG 1972 purports
- In the transcendental state there is neither material creation nor the Causal Ocean for material nature
- In the various types of bodies given to the living entities by material nature (yantrarudhani mayaya), either sattva-guna, rajo-guna or tamo-guna is prominent
- In the Vedic literature, however, it is said that the Supreme Personality of Godhead impregnates the material nature with the living entities and then they come out
- In the Vedic literatures it is said that by the glance of the Supreme Lord the total material energy is impregnated, and then everything is born of material nature
- In this life one may be a king, and in the next life one may be a dog, according to karma. The spirit soul is in a deep slumber caused by the force of material nature. He is put in one type of condition and again changed into another type
- In this material nature, or material world, we have got three kinds of sufferings: tri-tapa-yantana. Sri, Sri Sanatana Gosvami inquired, - Why these three kinds of miseries inflict pains upon me?
- In this material world, everyone is trying to counteract the onslaught of material nature, but everyone is ultimately fully controlled by material nature
- In this material world, everything happens under the influence of time. Consequently, for a learned person who sees how things are taking place, there is no question of being sorry or happy because of the waves of material nature
- In this material world, so-called goodness and badness are the same because they consist of the three modes of material nature. One must transcend this material nature. Even the Vedic ritualistic ceremonies consist of the three modes of material nature
- In this material world, the mother, prakrti, which is material nature, supplies us with the body, and the Supreme Father impregnates this matter with living souls
- In this temple every one of us trying to enjoy life in connection with Krsna. As soon as we are disconnected with KC, this kind of foodstuff or this kind of living, simple living, will not satisfy you. You'll be tossed by the waves of material nature
- In this verse (BG 9.13) the description of mahatma is clearly given. The first sign of the mahatma is that he is already situated in the divine nature. He is not under the control of material nature. BG 1972 purports
- In this verse (SB 6.17.19) the word ajna is very significant. In the material world, all living entities are ajna, ignorant, in different degrees. This ignorance continues very strongly in the mode of ignorance presented by material nature
- Inasmuch as we associate with God and as we go on hearing the words of Krsna and His names, the contamination of material nature is reduced
- Individuality is both in spiritual world and the material world. But in the material world our individuality is different on account of associating or infecting different qualities of the material nature
- Individuality is different on account of associating or infecting different qualities of the material nature. Just like there are different types of patients in the hospital. Why? Because each and every one of them is infected by different types of germs
- Inert material nature is not the actual cause of the material manifestation, for Karanarnavasayi, Maha-Visnu, the plenary expansion of Krsna, activates all the ingredients. It is in this way that material nature has the power to supply the ingredients
- Inexperienced observers presume that the material energy provides both the cause and the elements of the cosmic manifestation and that the living entities are the enjoyers of material nature
- Inferior material nature is defined herein (BG 7.14) as divine nature due to its divine connection and movement by the divine will. BG 1972 purports
- Iron has no power to heat or burn, but after coming in contact with fire the iron becomes red-hot and can then diffuse heat and burn other things. Material nature is like iron, for it has no independence to act without the touch of Visnu
- Isvara (the Supreme Lord), jiva (the living entity),prakrti (nature), eternal time and karma (activity) are all explained in the Bhagavad-gita. Out of these five, the Lord, the living entities, material nature and time are eternal. BG 1972 Introduction
- It (mind) will simply be acting to serve the gross body and to further condition the living entity and entrap him in material nature
- It has already been stated in the 17th Chapter that one who has surrendered to Krsna is relieved from the activities of material nature. Therefore for one who is able to see things as they are, the influence of material nature gradually ceases. BG 1972 p
- It is a fact that Krsna, His expansions and His devotees - that is, those who work for Him - are not in material nature, although people with a poor fund of knowledge think that they are
- It is a fact that Krsna, His expansions and His devotees - that is, those who work for Him - are not in material nature, although people with a poor fund of knowledge think that they are - CC Intro
- It is a great science to understand what is that spiritual nature and what is that material nature, and we have published about eighty books of four hundred pages each for understanding what is this material nature and what is the spiritual nature
- It is a miscalculation that Krsna, the Supreme Soul, is affected by this material nature. That is not possible
- It is accepted in the Vedic literature that as water in contact with air sometimes presents innumerable bubbles, so a combination of the material nature and the Supreme Person causes the appearance of the living entities within this material world
- It is also confirmed in the Bhagavad-gita that it is very difficult to get out of the clutches of material nature, but if anyone surrenders unto the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krsna, the modes of material nature can no longer act on him
- It is confirmed in the Bhagavad-gita (BG 13.22), karanam guna-sango 'sya sad-asad-yoni-janmasu: Because of the living entity's association with material nature, he meets with good and evil among various species
- It is confirmed in the Bhagavad-gita (mayadhyaksena (BG 9.10)). In the Ninth Chapter, Krsna says, "Under My superintendence material nature is acting"
- It is confirmed in the Bhagavad-gita where Krsna states: It should be understood that all species of life, O son of Kunti, are made possible by birth in this material nature, and that I am the seed-giving father - BG 14.4
- It is due to the impregnation of the material nature by the supreme father that the living entities are present. Therefore the argument that the individual living entities are not parts and parcels of the Supreme cannot stand
- It is due to the living entity's forgetfulness of his eternal nature as eternal servitor of the Lord, and his false conception of being a so-called lord of the material nature, that he is obliged to enter into the existence of false sense enjoyment
- It is foolish also to think that natural laws are ultimately powerful. Material nature's law works under the direction of the Lord, as confirmed in the Bhagavad-gita. The Lord says there that natural laws work under His supervision
- It is recommended here (in SB 3.28.3) that religious practice for economic development or the satisfaction of sense desires should be avoided. Religious practices should be executed only to gain freedom from the clutches of material nature
- It is said in Bhagavad-gita that a living entity is wandering in this material world on a chariot made by material nature
- It is said in the Fourth Chapter of the Bhagavad-gita anyone who knows the appearance and activities of the Supreme Lord Krsna is freed from the clutches of material nature and goes back home, back to Godhead
- It is said in the Prema-vivarta that when a living entity wants to enjoy material nature, he is immediately victimized by the material energy
- It is said: Everyone gets a father and mother, but if one gets the benediction of Krsna and guru, he can conquer material nature and return home, back to Godhead
- It is simply a question of the living entity's being attracted or not being attracted (to material nature). There is no question of his being forced to come into contact with material energy
- It is stated in Bhagavad-gita that anyone who engages in devotional service to the Lord automatically becomes transcendental to the three destinations of material nature and is situated in the brahma-bhuta (SB 4.30.20), or self-realized, stage
- It is stated in the Sapta-sati scripture that a ksatriya king named Suratha and a rich vaisya named Samadhi worshiped material nature in the form of goddess Durga to attain material perfection
- It is the duty of husband to protect wife in every way from the onslaught of material nature, and he must act always as her spiritual guide by being perfect example of devotee
- It is the duty of the human being how to get out of the control of the material nature. That is the greatest science. But they do not know it. That is explained in the Srimad-Bhagavatam
- It is very difficult to get out of the clutches of material nature. Devahuti poses the question that although one may speculate in many ways, where is liberation as long as one is under the spell of material nature
- It is very difficult to surpass the jurisdiction of maya, duratyaya. But punishment will not be excused. Ignorance of law is no excuse. Similarly, this maya, this material nature, is very, very strong
- It may be argued that because the living entities are born of the material nature they are all equal and independent
- It may be noted that the Supreme Lord glanced over the material nature before the creation of this cosmic manifestation
- It really does not matter how these living entities or superior entities of the Supreme Lord have come in contact with material nature. The Supreme Personality of Godhead knows, however, how and why this actually took place. BG 1972 purports
- It should be understood that all species of life, O son of Kunti, are made possible by birth in this material nature, and that I am (Krsna) the seed-giving father - BG 14.4. For a further explanation, one may refer to the Brahma-samhita - BS 5.10-13
- It should be understood that all species of life, O son of Kunti, are made possible by birth in this material nature, and that I am the seed-giving father. BG 14.4 - 1972
- It simply appears false. The Mayavadi philosophers conclude that because the material nature has no existence in the beginning and is nonexistent after dissolution, it is false
J
- Jnanis are engaged in philosophical speculation in order to gain release from the clutches of material nature. In these ways everyone is engaged in performing very difficult tasks simply for the gratification of the senses
- Just as a woman can deliver a child after being impregnated by the semen of a man, so material nature can supply the material elements after being glanced upon by Maha-Visnu
- Just as a woman cannot beget children without uniting with a man, material nature cannot beget living entities without being in union with the Supreme Personality of Godhead
- Just knowing "I am not this body but am spirit soul" is not sufficient. We have to escape this entanglement of material nature. This is called mukti, liberation
- Just like father and mother, the father giving seeds, similarly, God gives the seeds, and the mother, material nature, gives the body
- Just like in ordinary way, the father and mother requires to give a birth to a child. Similarly, this material nature is the mother. We have got this body from the mother, material nature
- Just like there is very, mean, forcible currents in the river, and if some animal is thrown in that, he'll be washed away. So we are being washed away by the currents one after another, of this material nature
K
- Karanam guna-sango 'sya sad-asad-yoni janmasu (BG 13.22). The spirit soul takes birth in higher and lower species of life only because of his association with the three qualities of material nature
- Karanodakasayi Visnu, who lies on the Causal Ocean, creates the universes merely by glancing upon material nature. Therefore Krsna personally has nothing to do with the material creation
- KC is so beneficial it easily counteracts material nature's contamination resulting from one's possessing a material body. BG therefore teaches, in the beginning, that whether one is man or woman one must know he or she isn't the body but a spiritual soul
- Kota nidra jao maya-pisacira kole. Just like a child sleeps on the lap of the mother, similarly, we are sleeping on the lap of mother material nature. This is our position
- Krsna conducts the material world under the three modes of material nature, and consequently there are three platforms of life - higher, middle and lower. On whatever platform one may be situated, one is tossed by the waves of material nature
- Krsna does not come into the contact of the material nature. Therefore, Krsna's name is Acyuta. He never falls down. But we are prone to fall down
- Krsna explained in Bhagavad-gita (7.4-5): O mighty-armed Arjuna, there is a superior energy of Mine, which consists of all living entities who are struggling with material nature and are sustaining the universe
- Krsna explains in the BG 9.10: This material nature, which is one of My energies, is working under My direction, O son of Kunti, producing all moving and nonmoving beings. Under its rule this manifestation is created and annihilated again and again
- Krsna indicates that beyond this changing (six transformations of material nature), cloudlike nature there is a spiritual nature, which is eternal. In addition, when this material nature is annihilated, that avyaktat sanatanah will remain
- Krsna is advising Arjuna to establish himself in his pure constitutional position as spirit soul, beyond the dualities of material nature
- Krsna is never puffed up by material knowledge and is therefore called acyuta, whereas the living entities fall down and are agitated by material nature. This is the difference between the Supreme Lord and the living entities
- Krsna is so mild & merciful, as described in the above verses, yet He is the Lord of all kinds of threes. He is the Supreme Lord of the 3 worlds, the 3 qualities of material nature & the 3 purusas - Karanodakasayi, Garbhodakasayi and Ksirodakasayi Visnu
- Krsna is the father, and material nature is the mother, and we are all sons. If we accept this simple philosophy, everything will be all right
- Krsna is the remote cause, and material nature is the immediate cause of the cosmic manifestation
- Krsna orders prakrti, the material nature that, "He wants to enjoy in this way, you give him a suitable body like that." - He wants to enjoy by becoming a tiger: Immediately I shall jump over an animal
- Krsna says in BG 13.9 that the real sufferings of the material world are four - janma-mrtyu jara-vyadhi (birth, death, old age and disease). In the history of the world, no one has been successful in conquering these miseries imposed by material nature
- Krsna says in the Bhagavad-gita, sarva-yonisu kaunteya sambhavanti murtayo yah (BG 14.4): "All different types of bodies, they are born of the mother, material nature, and I am the seed-giving father." This is the fact
- Krsna says, mayadhyaksena prakrtih suyate sa-caracaram: The material nature is working under My direction and producing all moving and nonmoving beings
- Krsna's superior energy is completely opposite in quality to material nature. Superior and inferior nature are explained in the Seventh Chapter (of BG). BG 1972 purports
- Krsna's transcendental name, form, activities and qualities are not products of this material nature
L
- Liberation is freedom from temporary designations which we have acquired from association with material nature. Liberation is nothing more than this
- Living entities who are associates of Rudra develop in the third mode of material nature, or ignorance. They are situated in the sky between the earthly planets and the heavenly planets
- Living entities, being superior energy to matter, have choice and discrimination either to surrender unto the Lord or to surrender unto material nature. By surrendering unto the Lord, one is happy and liberated
- Lord Brahma realized his actual position. He is certainly the supreme teacher of this universe, in charge of the production of material nature, consisting of the complete material energy, false ego, sky, air, fire, water and earth
- Lord Brahma takes advantage of the three modes of material nature. prakrti, material nature, is described here as tri-vrta, the source of the three material modes. Srila Madhvacarya comments in this connection that tri-vrta means prakrtya
- Lord Caitanya said - For a sannyasi or anyone who is aspiring to get out of the clutches of material nature and trying to elevate himself to the spiritual nature and go back to home, back to Godhead. BG 1972 purports
- Lord Kapila is explaining to His mother the relationship between the SP of Godhead and material nature. He is informing her how the Supreme Personality of Godhead is the original cause of the living entities who are conditioned by material nature
- Lord Kapila is summarizing the importance of the process of devotional service. Bhakti-yoga, as described before, is divided into four divisions, three in material modes of nature and one in transcendence, which is untinged by the modes of material nature
- Lord Siva is considered the father of this universe, and material nature is considered the mother. The father and mother are known as Lord Siva and goddess Durga
- Lord Siva is not an ordinary living being. He is the plenary portion of the Lord, but because Lord Siva is in direct touch with material nature, he is not exactly in the same transcendental position as Lord Visnu
- Lord Visnu activates material nature by the power of His glance, and then the ironlike material nature becomes a material-supplying agent just as iron made red-hot becomes a burning agent
- Lord Visnu is the master of this material world, and there is no question of His being controlled by material nature. Consequently, He is addressed here (in SB 4.20.27) as purusottama, the best of all living entities - namely visnu-tattvas & jiva-tattvas
M
- Mahamaya is the origin or birthplace of material nature
- Maharaja Prthu completely dedicated himself to be an eternal servant of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, transcendental to material nature
- Mama maya duratyaya: it is impossible to surpass the control of material nature, for the Supreme Personality of Godhead is working behind it
- Mangala was another name of Advaita Prabhu. As the causal incarnation, or Lord Visnu’s incarnation for a particular occasion, He is the supply agent or ingredient in material nature. However, He is never to be considered material
- Many men are advertised as great scholars of the Bhagavad-gita, but they overlook the Gita's message, by which material nature can be pacified
- Many pseudo-devotees dress the outward material body because they confuse the body with the soul. They are mistaken when they think that the spiritual bodies of Krsna, Radharani and Their associates, the damsels of Vraja, are composed of material nature
- Material energy is inferior, and spiritual energy is superior. Why? Superior energy (jiva-bhuta), the living entity, is controlling material nature. Actually he is not controlling, but is trying to utilize it
- Material existence is a struggle to conquer the impediments put forth by material nature
- Material existence means being fully controlled by material nature. The mind is the center for accepting the dictations of material nature. Thus the living entity is carried away in different types of bodies continuously, millennium after millennium
- Material existence, or the sense gratification process, is conducted according to the type of body we are given by prakrti, or material nature. As such, there must be divisions of pious and impious activities - punya and papa
- Material mind or senses were unborn when the Lord glanced over material nature. Thus evidence in the Vedas proves that beyond a doubt the Lord has transcendental eyes and a transcendental mind
- Material nature & the living entities should be understood to be beginningless. Their transformations and the modes of matter are products of material nature
- Material nature (prakrti) works under His order (the Supreme Personality of Godhead). How, then, can He be under the qualities of prakrti
- Material nature acts in two capacities as maya and pradhana. Maya is the direct cause, and pradhana refers to the elements of the material manifestation
- Material nature and purusa means the enjoyer. Six question. Of course, Bhagavad-gita is, each and every word and letter, is full of knowledge. But these six inquiries, if actually can understand the six items, he becomes the perfect knower
- Material nature and the living entities should be understood to be beginningless
- Material nature and the living entities should be understood to be beginningless. Their transformations and the modes of matter are products of material nature. BG 13.20 - 1972
- Material nature appears to be just the opposite of the spiritual energy. The fact is that the material energy can work only when in contact with the spiritual energy
- Material nature awards and punishes the living entity. When the living entity is materially opulent, material nature is rewarding him. When he is materially embarrassed, material nature is punishing him
- Material nature cannot independently become an agent for supplying the material ingredients. This is more clearly explained by Sri Kapiladeva, an incarnation of Godhead, in Srimad-Bhagavatam - SB 3.28.40
- Material nature cannot produce any variety of manifestations without the contact of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. This is very nicely explained in Bhagavad-gita
- Material nature cannot produce living creatures unless in contact with the supreme father, the Supreme Personality of Godhead
- Material nature carries out the orders of the Lord, and thus everything is maintained in an orderly way
- Material nature consists of the three modes-goodness, passion and ignorance. When the living entity comes in contact with nature, he becomes conditioned by these modes. BG 14.5 - 1972
- Material nature displays wonderful workmanship by creating varieties of bodies for the living beings according to their propensities for sense gratification. The living entity who wants to taste stool is given a body that is suitable for eating stool
- Material nature gets the power to supply the material elements from the glance of the supreme purusa, Maha-Visnu, and when empowered by Him she is called the cause of the material manifestation
- Material nature harasses the living entity in different bodies, but if the living entity surrenders to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, he becomes free from this entanglement. Thus his life becomes successful
- Material nature has no power by herself. Her activity begins by the grace of the Lord. The example of a woman’s conception can help us understand this subject. The mother is passive, but the father puts his energy within the mother, & thus she conceives
- Material nature has no power to create without the power of the purusa, just as a prakrti, or woman, cannot produce a child without the connection of a purusa, or man. The purusa impregnates, and the prakrti delivers
- Material nature has two different phases. The aspect called pradhana supplies the material ingredients for cosmic development, and the aspect called maya causes the manifestation of her ingredients, which are temporary, like foam in the ocean
- Material nature in this connection is called Brahman because it is a perverted reflection of the spiritual nature
- Material nature is a display of one of the energies of the Supreme Lord. BG 1972 Introduction
- Material nature is also controlled by the Lord, as He has claimed in Bhagavad-gita (BG 9.10). Mayadhyaksena prakrtih suyate sacaracaram: "Under My direction only is material nature working, and thus are all things moving
- Material nature is also not independent of the Lord, since the Lord Himself has claimed material nature as mama maya, or "My energy" (BG 7.14), and as me bhinna prakrtir astadha, or "My separated energy in eight divisions
- Material nature is always under His control, and it is therefore not possible that material nature can control the Supreme Personality of Godhead
- Material nature is called the mother, and the initiator for materialistic life is the father, Lord Siva. All material creation by the living entities is therefore initiated by the mode of passion
- Material nature is connected with the Personality of Godhead by His glance over her and nothing more. It is said that she is impregnated by the energy of His glance
- Material nature is electrified by the supreme authority, and the conditioned soul, within the limits of time and space, is trapped by awe of the material manifestation
- Material nature is helping to bring him to the human body, or human species. When a human being is civilized he can take knowledge from Vedic literature. So in Kali Yuga the Srimad-Bhagavatam is the essence of Vedic literatures
- Material nature is inert, and as such it cannot be the cause of matter, neither as the material nor as the efficient cause
- Material nature is not independant. She is acting under the directions of the Supreme Lord. As Lord Krsna says, "Prakrti is working under My direction." BG 1972 Introduction
- Material nature is not the cause of the birth of the living entities. The seed is given by the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and they only seem to come out as products of material nature. BG 1972 purports
- Material nature is not working independently, not by accident. It is not accident that exactly at 6:30 or 6:15 the sun is rising. Do you think accident takes place every day?
- Material nature is one, but because of the interaction of the three qualities, it can produce the total energy and the wonderful cosmic manifestation. Such transformations divide material nature into two features, namely the efficient and material causes
- Material nature is only the ingredient because actually the manifestation is caused by His (God's) energy. The material energy is also His energy
- Material nature is so strong that although a man suffers at every step, he will not cease his attempts to enjoy
- Material nature is so strong that it cannot be surmounted by an ordinary living entity. Only those who surrender unto the lotus feet of Krsna can cross the ocean of material existence
- Material nature is subject to repeated creation and annihilation, that spiritual nature remains as it is eternally
- Material nature is subordinate to the will of the Supreme Lord, and therefore He cannot be subjected to the laws of material nature. It is contradictory for the Lord to be subjected to the laws of His own inferior energy - BG 7.7
- Material nature is the immediate cause of the cosmic manifestation, but the original cause is Narayana, Krsna
- Material nature is the mother, and the Supreme Personality of Godhead is the seed-giving father
- Material nature is the mother. Material nature gives the body. But the soul is part and parcel of God. A soul is given, impregnated, in the material nature, and they come out in so many species of life
- Material nature is very strong, and the material modes force one to accept another body. This force is visible when the living entity transmigrates from a superior body to an inferior one
- Material nature is working under the direction of the Lord. Therefore the Lord is not unattached to the external energy, and He is addressed in this verse (SB 4.17.29) as guna-atma, the source of the three modes of material nature
- Material nature produces the material energy, known as mahat, and mahat produces the false ego
- Material nature supplies the body, but it does so under the direction of the Supersoul
- Material nature will not give us freedom very easily. If we become strong enough to try to capture the lotus feet of Krsna, maya will try to keep us under her clutches
- Material nature's primal factor is the mahat-tattva, or breeding source of all varieties. This part of material nature, which is called pradhana as well as Brahman, is impregnated by the Supreme Personality of Godhead
- Material nature, ashamed of her thankless task of acting to induce the living entities to become averse to the Supreme Lord, remains behind the Lord in shyness
- Material nature, gives us this opportunity to have this human form of life. The facility of this form of life, is given to us just to understand God
- Material nature, has been described as the prostitute, and we are trying to become the husband of the prostitute. Has anyone become happy by becoming husband of a prostitute?
- Material nature, prakrti, is enjoyable. Prakrti means enjoyable. And purusa, purusa means enjoyer
- Material nature, which appears to be the cause of the cosmic manifestation, is only the agency or energy of the Lord
- Material varieties means when it is nonmanifested, it is called pradhana, and when it is manifested, it is called prakrti, or nature, material nature
- Material world means to get this material body, and material body means subjected to the tribulations of material nature. This is called conditioned life
- Materialistic persons are never interested in hearing about the marvelous pastimes of the Lord. They think that they are fictions and stories and that the Supreme Godhead is also a man of material nature
- Materialistic persons, who are too much engaged in material enjoyment and who do not know anything beyond their material experiences, are carried by the whims of material nature
- Materialists sometimes give the argument that as straw eaten by a cow produces milk automatically, so material nature, under different circumstances, produces varieties of manifestations. Thus originally matter is the cause
- Maya, the material nature, is causing us to dance, telling us, "You are a member of this family and a member of this nation." Thus we are dancing like monkeys
- Mayadhyaksena means "under My supervision." Material nature cannot act so wonderfully unless the Lord's hand is behind it
- Mayadhyaksena prakrtih suyate sacaracaram: (BG 9.10) only under His (God's) direction does prakrti, or material nature, work. Similar information is given in the Brahma-samhita - BS 5.38
- Mayavadi philosophy means they accept Krsna as God, but He has assumed a body which is given by this material nature, as it is given to us. That is their policy. They count Krsna an ordinary man, on the same level. But that is not a fact
- Men are naturally apt to hear histories and narrations of various personalities performing mundane activities, without knowing that by such association one simply wastes valuable time and also becomes addicted to the three qualities of mundane nature
- Modern civilization does not know that because of varied association in material nature, the living entity although eternal is placed in different diseased conditions known as the many species of life. Modern civilization is unaware of the laws of nature
- Modern scientists mistakenly think that material nature is working independently and that things evolve by some chemical process only. However, life does not merely come from life or some chemical evolution
- Mother material nature cannot produce any living entity from her material elements unless and until she is impregnated with living entities by the Lord Himself. That is the mystery of the generation of the living entities
- Mother material nature has enough foodstuff both for animals and for men, by the grace of the Father Almighty, Sri Krsna
- Mucukunda continued, "My dear Lord, I am not an exception to this universal law of material nature. I am also a foolish person who has wasted his time for nothing. And my position is especially difficult"
- My dear Lord Sambhu, who within this material world but you can surpass My illusory energy? People are generally attached to sense enjoyment and conquered by its influence. Indeed, the influence of material nature is very difficult for them to surmount
N
- Namo 'kincana-vittaya nivrtta-guna-vrttaye (SB 1.8.27). - When one takes You as one's only possession, one immediately becomes free from the activities of the material nature
- Narada Muni had said that there is a river flowing in both directions. The Haryasvas understood the purport of this statement. Material nature functions in two ways - by creation and dissolution. Thus the river of material nature flows both ways
- Nature (prakrti) is so strong that no one can overcome her stringent laws
- Nature is like police force, this material nature. As soon as you become irreligious, making friendship with Kali and his friends, then you will be punished
- Neither the material nature nor Brahma is independent of the Lord
- No one can act independently of the sanction of the Lord, and therefore, indirectly, no one is different from the Supreme Person - certainly not Brahma and Rudra, who are incarnations of the material nature's modes of passion and ignorance
- No one can surpass the vigilance of material nature or hide his intentions from material nature. If human society unlawfully claims that the property of the universe, either partially or wholly, belongs to mankind, all of human society will be cursed
- No one can trace out the history of his becoming conditioned at a certain date in material history. Consequently, his release from the clutches of material nature is very difficult. BG 1972 purports
- No one in contact with material nature can be beyond these six laws of transformation; therefore no one-whether demigod, man, animal or plant-can survive forever in the material world
- No one in the material creation can say that he is free from them (threefold miseries). The trident of this material nature is pressed against everyone's chest, and because of this, pure happiness within this material world is not possible
- No one is equal to or above Krsna, and certainly the so-called great sages and philosophers who are at the mercy of material nature cannot equal Him. BG 1972 purports
- No one will survive in this struggle with material nature. The history of human society definitely proves it, yet the foolish people still suggest that in the future they will be able to live perpetually, with the help of material science
- Nobody can claim. "I am the wisest man," nobody can claim, "I am the strongest man," that is also, nobody can claim. However one strong may be, he is under the rules and regulation of material nature. He cannot go beyond that
- Nondevotee impersonalists think that Krsna has a body made of this material nature and that all His activities, His form and everything, are maya. These impersonalists are known as Mayavadi. They do not know the ultimate truth. BG 1972 purports
- Nondevotees are brought before Yamaraja for punishment, and thus material nature awards them various types of bodies. After death, which is dehantara, a change of body, nondevotees are brought before Yamaraja for justice
- Nondevotees factually appreciate the wonderful creation of material nature, but they cannot appreciate the intelligence and energy of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is behind this material creation

- Not knowing the conclusions of the Vedas, some people accept the material nature as substance, and others accept the spirit soul as substance, but actually Brahman is the substance. Brahman is the cause of all causes
- Not to be confused with Kali, the demigoddess who is the devastating feature of material nature. The latter is actually pronounced kah-lee, whereas the Kali under discussion here (as in the age of kali) is pronounced kuh-ly
- Now an understanding of the relationship between material nature and the Supreme Lord is sought by Devahuti. The product of that relationship is stated to be the manifest and unmanifest material world

- Now we have to learn how to forget to serve this material nature, and that process is bhakti-marga, the path of devotional service
O
- O completely peaceful Lord, although material nature, fruitive activities and their consequent material names and forms are Your creation, You are unaffected by them
- O King, all good fortune unto you! The mind is the cause of the living entity's attaining a certain type of body in accordance with his association with material nature
- O my Lord, everything within material nature is limited by time, space and thought. Your characteristics, however, being unequaled and unsurpassed, are always transcendental to such limitations
- On account of our combination with the material nature, we have been covered. Therefore our shining quality is now stopped. That is our forgetfulness about our relationship with the Supreme purusa, purusottama
- On the one hand we realize that all our perceptions and activities are conditioned by arrangements of material nature, yet we also ordinarily feel and say, "I am perceiving" or "I am doing
- On the spiritual platform there are none of the differences we find in cause and effect. Since all the forms of the Supreme Personality of Godhead are spiritually supreme, They are equally controllers of material nature
- On the stage a person may be an enemy or whatever, but off the stage all the actors are friends. Similarly, with these bodies we are playing on the stage of material nature, and we attach so many designations to one another

- One makes his advancement in Krsna consciousness by voluntarily giving up his attachment to material nature, or maya. Such renunciation is called tapasya
- One may argue that Maha-Visnu cannot have any connection with the material qualities, because if He were so connected, Srimad-Bhagavatam would not state that material nature, ashamed of her thankless task, remains behind the Lord in shyness
- One may be able to avoid the punishment of prison, but one cannot avoid the punishment of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who works through the agency of material nature
- One may conclude that in the material world no one can be completely free from the contamination of material nature. This example of fire and smoke is very appropriate in this connection. BG 1972 purports

- One should be intelligent enough to know His activities in truth and not be biased to conclude that He descends to the material world by accepting a form created by material nature

- One should know by the cultivation of real knowledge that he is not lord of material nature; the Supreme Personality of Godhead is the Lord. BG 1972 purports
- One should not be misled by such temporary bodily conceptions. Actually no one is master within the material world, for everyone is under the control of material nature, which is under the control of the Supreme Personality of Godhead
- One should not think that material nature or material energy is the cause of this cosmic manifestation. Rather, it is caused by the Supreme Lord, who uses His different expansions through material nature

- One should not try to compare the expansions of material nature to the catur-vyuha, the quadruple expansions of the Personality of Godhead, but unfortunately the Mayavadi school unreasonably attempts to do this
- One should see that because of the meeting of material nature and the living entity, the universe is acting uniformly. Thus one should neither praise nor criticize the characteristics or activities of others
- One should therefore understand the fixed position of the spirit soul and how he is carried away by the waves of material nature to different bodies and different situations under lamentation and hankering
- One who can keep himself steady and resist the attraction of material nature is certainly a hero and deserves to be called a gosvami. Unless one is master of the senses, he cannot become a gosvami
- One who can see that all activities are performed by the body, which is created of material nature, and sees that the self does nothing, actually sees. BG 13.30 - 1972

- Only one who renders devotional service to the Lord can attain this stage of indifference to the false and temporary assets of material nature

- Only under the superintendence of the Supreme Lord does material nature appear to be the cause of all creation, maintenance and dissolution. The Lord expands Himself into three - Visnu, Brahma & Siva - for maintenance, creation & destruction respectively

- Our real hankering is how to go to the spiritual nature. But due to our long association with this material nature, we are thinking wrongly that, - I am a product of this material nature. I will have to adjust with the elements here
- Our struggle for existence is to fight with the impositions of the material nature. So Krsna says that in this way fighting, you cannot get out of the clutches of maya
- Our understanding of this material nature, how it is working, how things are happening in a systematic way, how the sun is rising exactly in due course, due time, how it is setting - there are so many things we do not know

- The two examples of the eagle and the cloud are sufficient to prove that flying and floating can be made possible through adjustments of the air. The planets, in a similar way, are floating because material nature adjusts the air
- The universes are each covered by sevenfold material coverings of water, fire, air, sky, ego, noumenon and material nature, just like a huge football, pumped and covered, floating on the water of the Causal Ocean, wherein the Lord is lying as Maha-visnu
- The varieties of energies produced by the interaction of material nature produce the varieties of species of life and their resultant happiness and unhappiness

- The whole aim is liberation. We are conditioned by this material nature. We have got this material body. Therefore our aim should be how to become liberated from this contamination, accepting birth after birth, material body
- The whole creation, the body is supplied by material nature, mother. Therefore she is called - mother
- The whole living world has come out of the material combinations of the cosmic manifestation. Therefore material nature is the cause of this manifestation, and there is no other cause. BG 1972 purports
- The whole material creation is conducted by the three purusas in successive stages under the external energy of the Lord, and thus material nature is controlled by Him
- The whole process, the whole process of material activities, material nature, is going on under this principle, that we are required to go back to the eternal world, to get our eternal life and eternal blissful knowledge
- The whole world is enchanted by three modes of material nature. Those who are bewildered by these three modes cannot understand that transcendental to this material nature is the Supreme Lord, Krsna. BG 1972 purports
- The wonderful activities of material nature are due to Lord Krsna, and thus He is the final cause, or the ultimate cause of all causes

- The word 'ksetrajna' refers to the living entity, the enjoyer, the chief and material nature
- The word atyantikena is very significant in this verse (SB 36.28). By development of the mode of goodness of material nature one can become situated in the heavenly planets
- The word durmadena may be analyzed in this way: dur means dusta, or "sinful," and mada means "madness." Every living entity who is in contact with material nature is called mada, or mad

- There are hundreds and thousands of different species of life. Why are there higher and lower bodies? One receives these bodies according to the contaminations of material nature
- There are many manifestations like trees, mountains and hills, which are not moving, and there are many existences which are moving, and all of them are but combinations of material nature and superior nature, the living entity. BG 1972 purports
- There are many persons in the state who have never seen what is the prison life, and there are many persons in the state, the majority of one's life is passed in the prison. Similarly, there are two nature, material nature and the spiritual nature
- There are many so-called meditators who think, "I am the Supreme Spirit Soul. I am conducting the activities of material nature. Under my direction the sun is moving and the moon is rising
- There are two kinds of entities - the moving (such as human beings, animals and insects) and nonmoving (such as trees and mountains). Krsna says that material nature, which controls both kinds of entities, is acting under His direction
- There are two natures. Just like you can understand, you are combination of two nature, the material nature and the spiritual nature. This gross body is material nature. It is made of earth, fire, water, air, ether, and mind, intelligence and ego
- There are two stages: nondevotee and devotee. The nondevotee is under the control of material nature, and devotee is under the direct control of Krsna

- There is another nature, which is superior to material nature. The word bhava or svabhava refers to nature
- There is no direct engineering by the Lord for the creation and destruction of the material world. What is described in the Vedas about His direct interference is simply to counteract the idea that material nature is the creator

- There is superior management, as confirmed in the Bhagavad-gita (BG 9.10), where the Lord says, mayadhyaksena prakrtih suyate sa-caracaram: This material nature is working under My direction, O son of Kunti, & it is producing all moving & unmoving beings

- They (living entities) have taken it for granted that this life, as presently manifested under the conditions of material nature, is all in all for enjoying the highest amount of sense gratification
- They (material assets) foil spiritual energy, and thus the less we possess such products of material nature, the more we have a good chance for spiritual progress
- They (mudha, naradhama, whose knowledge is carried away by maya and atheists) have to be slapped, caned and kicked severely, and they have to suffer. Just as a father has to chastise his unruly boy, so material nature has to employ certain punishments
- They (people in general, especially in this age of Kali) have no knowledge that the material or external nature is very strong, for everyone is strongly bound by the stringent laws of material nature. BG 1972 Preface

- They (the Mayavadi philosophers) consider the transcendental pastimes, name, form and qualities of the Supreme to be products of material nature
- They (the people) are rascals. What he's thinking, independence, that is illusion. Where is, where is your independence? Illusion. Maya. When you are under the strict rules and regulations of the material nature, how you are independent
- They (those who do not know the value of ds) are attracted by material activities, and they become worshipers of material nature. Thus they are known as fruitive actors. They even become entangled in material activities disguised as spiritual activities
- They (universes) are each covered by sevenfold material coverings of water, fire, air, sky, ego, noumenon & material nature, just like a huge football, pumped and covered, floating on the water of the Causal Ocean, wherein the Lord is lying as Maha-Visnu
- They are trying to dominate the material nature, the so-called scientists. But they do not know that they are under the domination of material nature
- They are trying to overcome the control of material nature by so-called scientific method, but that is not the way. You cannot do that
- Things material are enjoyed by the living entities because the living entities are superior, whereas material nature is of inferior quality. Thus the superior quality, the living entities, can enjoy the inferior quality, matter
- Thinking material nature to be independent is like seeking milk from the nipplelike bags on the neck of a goat
- This (BG 14.3) is an explanation of the world: everything that takes place is due to the combination of ksetra & ksetrajna, the body & the spirit soul. This combination of material nature & the living entity is made possible by the SG Himself. BG 1972 p
- This (CC Madhya 20.275) is a quotation from Srimad-Bhagavatam (SB 3.5.26). This verse tells how the living entities come in contact with material nature
- This (counteracting freezing cold, scorching heat, etc.) is an example of the struggle for existence, the attempt to counteract the onslaught of material nature. This creates enmity in society, and consequently society is filled with envious people
- This artificial civilization for sense gratification is not very good. It is not good for us. We may gratify our senses while we are living, but when we quit this body, we are completely under the grip of material nature
- This body is a gift of the material nature, and one who is too much attached to the bodily consciousness is called mandan, or a lazy person without understanding of spirit soul. BG 1972 purports
- This body is made by material nature under the direction of the Supersoul, and whatever activities are going on in respect to one's body are not his doing. BG 1972 purports
- This body is made of material nature. I am the owner of the body or driver of the body, and Krsna is the giver of the body
- This body means it is created by the material nature. In somebody the quality of goodness is prominent, somebody the quality of passion is prominent, and in somebody the quality of ignorance is prominent
- This Brahma, or Aja, is also a living being, part and parcel of the Lord, but being the most pious devotee of the Lord, Brahma is inspired by the Lord to create, subsequent to the main creation by the Lord, through the agency of material nature
- This cause (of being subjected to the control of material nature) is distinctly stated in Bhagavad-gita (7.14): because one has not surrendered to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, he must work under the control of material nature & its stringent laws
- This chanting of Hare Krsna extinguishes the blazing fire of material nature. This is also the purport to the following prayer to the spiritual master - Sri Gurvastakam, Verse 1
- This false identification with material nature is the cause of false ownership of things which are offered by the arrangement of superior control
- This human form of body is a great concession given by the material nature. People are so miscreant and foolish. They do not understand what is the value of this human form of life
- This human form of body is specially meant for that purpose. You can understand what you are, what is this material nature, what is God and how we are related, how things are going on. Everything is there, but we are so foolish that we do not take care
- This illusory struggle against material nature can be stopped at once by revival of our eternal Krsna consciousness
- This impregnating process is performed by the first purusa incarnation, Karanarnavasayi Visnu. Simply by His glance over material nature, the whole matter is accomplished
- This impregnation of material nature is described in Bhagavad-gita, Fourteenth Chapter, verse 3
- This is also confirmed in the Bhagavad-gita: the living entity is as if seated on the machine of the body, and the car of the body is moving by the control of material nature, just as the railway trains are moving under the direction of the controller
- This is confirmed in the Vedas, "He threw His glance over the material nature, and thus there was creation"
- This is explained in BG 9.10: This material nature is working under My direction, O son of Kunti, and it is producing all moving and unmoving beings
- This is Krsna consciousness movement. God is personally giving you the information, what is the material nature, what is the spiritual nature, how you can transfer yourself to the spiritual nature, and then you come to your original position
- This is material nature, and therefore it is said that there is always anxiety in the material world
- This is material nature. There are many events in nature that cause fear. There are great cyclones and tornadoes. There is excessive heat and excessive rain. There is flood and famine and war. Yet people are thinking of being happy on this planet
- This is the opulence of the Lord. Although situated within the material nature, He is never affected by the modes of nature. Similarly, those who have surrendered to Him and have fixed their intelligence upon Him are not influenced by the modes of nature
- This is the whole plan of material nature (that things should not be used for sense gratification) according to the directions of this material nature
- This life is a sort of fight with material nature, which imposes death upon all
- This material nature is also Krsna's nature. Nothing is beyond Krsna
- This material nature is impregnated just like a female is impregnated by the male; otherwise the female cannot give birth to any child
- This material nature is the separated energy of the Supreme Lord, and similarly the living entities are also the energy of the Supreme Lord, but they are not separated. They are eternally related. BG 1972 Introduction
- This material nature is very powerful. You cannot protect from the onslaught of material nature. Therefore Prahlada Maharaja advising us that you try to achieve the permanent. The permanent is the soul. God is permanent
- This material nature is working under My (Krsna's) direction, O son of Kunti, and it is producing all moving and unmoving beings. By its rule this manifestation is created and annihilated again and again
- This material nature is working under My (Krsna's) direction, O son of Kunti, and producing all moving & unmoving beings. The Supreme Lord casts His glance over material energy, and His glance agitates the three modes of nature. Creation then takes place
- This material nature is working under My direction, O son of Kunti, and it is producing all moving and unmoving beings. By its rule this manifestation is created and annihilated again and again. BG 9.10- 1972
- This maya, this material nature, is very, very strong. If you eat little more... Your nature is to eat, say, two ounce. If you eat three ounce immediately you'll be punished. There will be indigestion. The nature is so strong
- This process of creation and annihilation described in summary herein (SB 2.10.46) is the regulative principle during the duration of Brahma's one day. It is also the regulative principle in the creation of mahat, in which the material nature is dispersed
- This question (does material nature ever give release to the spirit soul?) asked by Devahuti of Kapiladeva is more or less impelled by the philosophy of voidism
- This simple philosophy. And this is a fact. What is this body? This body is this earth. "Dust thou art, dust thou be-est." Mother is this material nature. I've got this body. And the father, He is Krsna, or God. What is wrong in accepting this philosophy
- This theory also cannot be accepted, because both the material nature and the Supreme Personality of Godhead are eternally existing. Neither the material nature nor the Supreme Personality of Godhead can be born
- This unhappiness is present on all the higher planets, despite a longer life span, higher standards of enjoyment and comfort. That is due to the law of material nature
- This verse (SB 7.1.28-29) uses the word maya-manuje. When Krsna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, appears in His original spiritual potency (sambhavamy atma-mayaya (BG 4.6)), He is not forced to accept a form made by material nature
- Those in the darkness of ignorance, however, do not know this mission. Instead, being carried away by the waves of material nature (BG 3.27), they are undergoing the tribulations of mrtyu-samsara-vartmani (BG 9.3), repeated birth and death
- Those who accept the material nature as the cosmic manifestation's original cause (prakrti, the cause of creation according to Sankhya philosophy) are not correct in their conclusion
- Those who are actually advanced will find that the original cause is the potter, who supplies the earth and moves the wheel. Material nature may be a helping factor in the creation of this cosmic manifestation, but it is not the ultimate cause
- Those who are actually situated in the mode of goodness (sattva-guna) of material nature worship only visnu-tattvas
- Those who are associating with the base qualities of material nature, they get lower life. That is natural. Just like you contaminate a kind of disease, it will become manifest in due course of time
- Those who are not surrendered souls are put under the care of the material nature (bhramayan sarva-bhutani yantrarudhani mayaya (BG 18.61)); they are allowed to do things on their own account and suffer the consequences themselves
- Those who are very much attached to this material nature, they are unfortunate; they cannot understand Krsna or Krsna consciousness. That is not possible
- Those who can understand analytically what kind of performances are in what modes of material nature are actually wise
- Those who do not make an offering of their food, He (Krsna) says in the same verse (BG 3.13), are said to be eating only sin. In other words, their every mouthful is simply deepening their involvement in the complexities of material nature. BG 1972 pur

- To become president or prime minister is not easy; one must work very hard (aruhya krcchrena) to achieve the post. And even though one may reach his goal, at any moment one may be kicked down by material nature
- To think of material nature as all in all, not knowing the original cause, is ignorance
- Transcending the material nature, then he becomes zero? No. That is the real nature. Now, the philosophy which preaches that "After our liberation, after nirvana of this material existence, there is zero," oh, that is very dangerous theory
- Trisula means three kinds of miseries. So the maya, this material nature, is inflicting upon the conditioned soul always three kinds of miseries so that they can come to their conscious, Krsna consciousness
- Trying to be the masters of material nature, they (the scientists) are imitation gods who declare to the public that scientific advancement will one day be able to avoid the so-called control of God
U

- Ultimately it is concluded that the body is a product of material nature, and at the end it merges into material nature; therefore, the conclusion should be that the body belongs to material nature
- Unaware of the principles of religion, they (those who have surrendered to the principles of material nature) do not surrender to Krsna, and therefore they are considered sinful rascals, the lowest of men, and fools bereft of all knowledge
- Under the direction of the Supreme Lord, these three classes of men are created by material nature, but those in the mode of goodness have a greater chance to be elevated to the spiritual world, back home, back to Godhead
- Under the spell of material nature, we are becoming servants and masters, but if we agree to be controlled by the Supreme Personality of Godhead and His eternal servants, this temporary condition ceases to exist
- Unfortunately for him (the living entity), he is trying vainly to attain his enjoyment from the foreign atmosphere of material nature
- Unfortunately, the soul forgets his constitutional position and thinks he is only the body (deha-atma-buddhi). Thus the soul is subjected to the rules and regulations of material nature
- Unless he (the living entity) is enlightened with the supreme knowledge, one has to undergo the severe penalties of the hard struggle for existence in the material nature
V

- Vasudeva wanted his brother-in-law Kamsa to refrain from the sinful act of killing his sister, since the result of being agitated by material nature would be that Kamsa would have to accept a body in which to suffer again and again
- Vedic astrology reveals whether one has been born in the vipra-varna, ksatriya-varna, vaisya-varna or sudra-varna, according to the three qualities of material nature
- Visnu impregnated Maya or material nature simply by glancing at her. This is the spiritual method
- Visnu impregnates maya, the material nature, simply by glancing at her. This is the spiritual method - CC Intro
- Visnu is not a product of material nature, but material nature is a product of Visnu's potency
- Vyasadeva taught Sukadeva the consciousness of the material nature and the living entity, the symptoms of the self-realized soul, the working principles of the material body, the symptoms of the influential modes of nature and the tree of perpetual desire
W
- Water is a very nice place for a fish, but the fish is never free from anxiety about death, since big fish are always eager to eat the small fish. All living entities are eaten by bigger living entities. This is the way of material nature
- We are all creatures of material nature. In the Bhagavad-gita it is said that the Lord Himself is the seed-giving father and material nature is the mother of all living beings in all shapes
- We are all in wretched condition under the grip of material nature, always suffering threefold miseries. So we should be conscious. Unless we are conscious about this fact, then our human life is spoiled
- We are born, every one of us born and nourished by this material nature. This is a fact, one can see. So who is the father? The mother is there, material nature, and we are children there
- We are conditioned souls, but He (Supreme Lord) is not affected, although the material nature has emanated from Him
- We are entangled with the network of this fabrication of material elements. Very difficult position. Just like the fish caught up in the net of the fisherman, or maya, similarly, we are now caught up within the network created by the material nature
- We are sitting on this car of this body, supplied by the material nature, and she is driving anywhere - sometimes up, sometimes down. In this way we are suffering life after life, birth after birth. This is our condition. We are not independent
- We are thinking we are free. This is foolishness. We are so much controlled by the material nature, exactly like a small child is pulled by the ear by his mother. "Come here." He comes here. "Go there," and goes
- We are under false consciousness. I am thinking, "I am Indian," you are thinking you are German, and the dog is thinking, "I am dog". So this bodily consciousness, bodily concept of life, will keep us conditioned within the material nature
- We are under the control of maya, material nature, and it is not possible to avoid it (punishment from Yamaraja). We have become infected by the disease of material nature, and no artificial means will save us
- We are under the grip of material nature, and she is offering different kinds of bodies: "Now, my dear sir, you accept this body." We accept an American body, an Indian body, a Chinese body, a cat's body or a dog's body
- We are under the stringent rules of material nature, but still we are thinking that we have conquered. This is called maya
- We are, big, big scientists, philosophers, we are trying to understand the activities of the material nature. We cannot go beyond that
- We associate with the three qualities of material nature, our position in this material world is full of dangers, but when we engage in the devotional service of God by the process of sravanam & kirtanam, we immediately become vimukta-sanga, or liberated
- We can be proud of our eyes only under certain favorable conditions created by an external agency, namely the material nature
- We can see at every moment many changes taking place in our bodies, but the spirit soul is aloof from all changes. One can neither create nor annihilate nor interfere with the actions of material nature
- We cannot do anything, because the bigger creative energy's there & we are simply trying to combat with him. Therefore, uselessly we're struggling. That's all. We can't change. Because the bigger creative energy is different, prakrti, the material nature
- We cannot surpass the vigilance of material nature by committing or by executing sinful life. That is not possible
- We do not love Krsna, but Krsna loves us. He claims everyone as His son (BG 14.4) - It should be understood that all species of life, O son of Kunti, are made possible by birth in this material nature, and that I am the seed-giving Father
- We foolishly see the activities of material nature without understanding the supreme order and Supreme Person behind them
- We have become very proud of our education, but we tell material nature, "Thank you very much for kicking me. Now please continue." Thus deluded, we think that we have even conquered material nature. But how is this so
- We have created unnecessary problems simply by forgetting Krsna. This is the material nature. Bhave 'smin klisyamananam. Therefore you have to work so hard
- We have no control over these threefold miseries. They are controlled by Krsna's maidservant, Goddess Durga, who is material nature. She is not independent of Krsna
- We have taken shelter of this material nature; therefore we are full of anxieties and full of miserable condition of life. This is the position
- We have the tendency of controlling over the material nature, lording it over the material nature, but we are not the supreme controller. So that thing is explained in the Bhagavad-gita
- We have to learn how to forget to serve this material nature. That is bhakti-marga
- We have voluntarily come into this material world for sense enjoyment, and in sense enjoyment we have forgotten our supreme father, God. The material nature's duty is to give us simply miserable condition of life
- We living entities in different forms are all children of the SPG, as confirmed in BG 14.4: "It should be understood that all species of life, O son of Kunti, are made possible by birth in this material nature, & that I (Krsna) am the seed-giving father"
- We living entities, we are the marginal energy. That means if we like, we can live in this material nature - if we like, we can transfer ourselves to the spiritual nature
- We may thus struggle to counteract impediments offered by material nature, but our attempts cannot be successful unless we are favored by the Supreme Personality of Godhead
- We see, we act, under some conditions offered by the material nature. So we are not fully aware of everything; neither our body is eternal; neither we are blissful. This body is the source of so many diseases
- We should always appreciate the creative energy of the Supreme Lord. Beautiful nature, even though material and therefore temporary, is always full of the glories of the creator
- We should always remember that the conditioned souls in material nature are all eager for material enjoyment. BG 1972 purports
- We should know then on the basis of authority that behind this gigantic material nature, the cosmic manifestation, there is God - Krsna - and that He is accepted by all Vedic authorities
- We should know what is God. We should know what we are, living entities. We should know what is this material nature. We should know what is time, and we should know what are our real activities
- We should not criticize others' methods of religion. There are different types of religious systems operating under different qualities of material nature
- We should not spoil our energy in building mighty industries and cities to further entrap ourselves in material nature; rather, our energy should be used to develop KC, in order to attain a spiritual body whereby we may enter into Krsna's planet
- We should not think that Krsna is overpowered by the material potency when He is in the material world. Krsna and His incarnations are not under the control of material nature. They are totally free
- We should not think that Krsna is overpowered by the material potency when He is in the material world. Neither Krsna nor His incarnations ever come under the control of material nature. They are totally free - CC Intro
- We think ourselves created by material nature exactly as we think ourselves experiencing so many things in a dream. The spirit soul is always transcendental. There is no question of becoming materially covered
- What comes from material nature is not the life, but the body. The living entities accept particular types of bodies from material nature, just as a child takes its body from its mother
- What is material nature?
- What is material nature? This is also explained in Gita as inferior prakrti, inferior nature. The living entity is explained as the superior prakrti. BG 1972 Introduction
- What is that Durga? Durga is the material nature, very powerful. Srsti-sthiti-pralaya-sadhana-saktih. She has got the power of creating, maintaining and dissolving. She is so powerful. You have seen Durga's picture. She has got ten hands

- What will be the benefit of performing fruitive activities in that river of maya (the river of material nature)?
- Whatever order is sent from Krsna, material nature obeys. Therefore the natural beauty created by the rainy season was acted out according to the indications of Krsna, who thus felt very proud of material nature's beautiful activities
- When a living entity is liberated from the conditioned life of matter, he can understand the two different activities of material nature, namely covering and bewildering

- When he (the living entity) is in contact with the material nature, he acts in many sinful ways without hesitation, and sometimes even against his will. BG 1972 purports
- When he (the living entity) is under the direction of the Personality of Godhead he is free, but when, under the impression that he is satisfying his senses, he engages in sense gratificatory activities, he is actually under the spell of material nature
- When He comes in the material world, if He becomes controlled by the material nature, then how He is controller? Huh? He is not controller. Then He becomes controlled. We are controlled. Krsna is never controlled
- When Krsna appears, He accepts the higher nature (prakrtim svam), not the inferior material nature
- When one forgets his relationship with the Supreme Personality of Godhead and comes into contact with the material nature in conditional life, he generates his own position by association with the different varieties of material nature. BG 1972 purports
- When one is distressed he goes to the church or temple to worship the Lord, but when opulent he forgets the Lord. Therefore, punishment by the Lord through material nature is necessary in human society
