Bhavānanda Rāya was a resident of Jagannātha Purī and the father of five sons, most notably the great Rāmānanda Rāya. Upon meeting Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, Bhavānanda Rāya surrendered everything—his home, wealth, servants, and children—to the Lord's lotus feet. Śrīla Prabhupāda highlights the Lord's extraordinary reciprocation: He embraced Bhavānanda Rāya and revealed that in a previous age, Bhavānanda was Mahārāja Pāṇḍu, his wife was Kuntīdevī, and his five sons (Rāmānanda, Vāṇīnātha, Gopinātha, Kalānidhi, and Sudhānidhi) were the five Pāṇḍavas.
