Theme Analysis
Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu's relationship with Lord Nṛsiṁhadeva is characterized by deep reverence, ecstatic prayers, and striking theological revelations. As part of His daily routine in Jagannātha Purī, the Lord would intentionally visit the Deity of Lord Nṛsiṁhadeva—located behind the twenty-two steps—before approaching Lord Jagannātha, setting the standard for taking shelter of the Lord's protector incarnation. When standing before the Deity, He would chant famous prayers acknowledging Nṛsiṁhadeva's omnipresence (ito nṛsiṁhaḥ parato nṛsiṁhaḥ) and fall flat in ecstatic love. Most remarkably, upon hearing the holy name of Nṛsiṁha, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu would sometimes assume the actual mood of the fierce avatāra, exhibiting red eyes, trembling, and a thundering voice.
