- At the end of Kali-yuga when the power of government is transferred to the hands of ministers elected from the lowborn sudra class or those less than them, at that time the Lord will appear as the supreme chastiser

- At the present moment the education department does not distinguish who is a brahmana, who is a ksatriya, who is a vaisya or a sudra. And because the things have topsy-turvied, there is chaos all over the world
- At the present moment there is a great necessity for brahmanas, because almost everyone is a sudra, for almost everyone is wholly engaged in maintaining the body, eating, sleeping, mating and defending - all symptoms of animals and sudras

- Because King Rantideva saw everyone as part of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, he never distinguished between the brahmana and the sudra, the poor and the rich. Such equal vision is called sama-darsinah
- Because of being covered by the material energy, mahamaya, one identifies himself in these different ways (as brahmana, a ksatriya, a vaisya or a sudra). When the conditioned soul becomes liberated, however, he thinks himself an eternal servant of Krsna
- Because of his (Narada Muni's) association with devotees, he became more fortunate than he was in Gandharvaloka. Even though cursed by the prajapatis to become a sudra, in his next life he became the son of Lord Brahma
- Because of not observing the required rules and regulations, he is impure, but I was obliged to hand over my daughter to him just as one teaches the messages of the Vedas to a sudra
- Because one happens to take birth in a brahmana family, even if he has no qualifications and is rascal number one, he claims to be a brahmana, and although his qualifications are less than those of a sudra, people accept him as a brahmana
- Because sudras do not have ample intelligence, they should simply engage as workers to serve the higher statuses of social life
- Because the population of the modern world consists mostly of sudras, the brahminical culture is now lost and is extremely difficult to reestablish in a proper way
- Because the protection was not given to the cows and the bulls, he immediately took him that, "This rascal is not a ksatriya; he's a sudra. In the dress of a king, he's doing mischievous activities. Immediately punish him." This is government's duty

- Because the vaidyas were supposed to be descendants of brahmana fathers and sudra wives, they were sometimes called sudras. Thus Candrasekhara Acarya, although born in a vaidya family, was called a sudra in Benares
- Because the whole population of the world consists only of sudras, there is a decline of spiritual knowledge, and people are unhappy
- Because there is no institution to teach people how to become brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras or brahmacaris, grhasthas, vanaprasthas and sannyasis, these demons want a classless society. This is resulting in chaotic conditions

- Brahmanas, ksatriyas and vaisyas must behave according to the principles of their order. If they fall down to the level of sudras, who are accustomed to drink liquor they will be punished
- Brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras are distinguished by the qualities born of their own natures in accordance with the material modes
- Brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras are distinguished by their qualities of work, O chastiser of the enemy, in accordance with the modes of nature. BG 18.41 - 1972

- Brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas, sudras, they are trained differently. Brahmana - for understanding Vedic knowledge and guide the other three subdivisions
- Brahmin means one who knows Brahman, the Absolute Truth. And Vaisya means those who know visampati, the economic problem. And Sudra means laborer. So each word has got meaning
- Brahmin's duty is to guide the Ksatriyas whether he is actually executing his duty according to sastra. That is Brahmin's duty. Brahmin, Ksatriya, Vaisya, Sudra. Similarly, Vaisya's duty is to see economic development of the state
- Buddha appeared to stop this animal slaughter. He, he was born in Vedic family, ksatriya family, princely order. That is Vedic order, brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra. So . . . but he enunciated a new type of religion, which is called Buddha religion

- By birth everyone is a sudra, a fourth-class man, but he may be reformed by the purificatory process. There are ten kinds of purificatory processes
- By birth everyone is sudra. Even if he's born in a brahmana family he is sudra. The samskara means purification. That is satyam saucam
- By his (Vidura's) pious activities in the devotional service of the Lord he was able to always remember the lotus feet of the Lord, and thus he became washed of all contamination of a sudra-born life
- By initiation he (a person who was a sudra) is twice-born . . . first born father and mother, and next birth is the father is the spiritual master and mother is the scripture
- By your vaisya-vrtti, krsi-go-raksya-vanijyam, you can satisfy Krsna. By your brahmana-vrtti you can satisfy Krsna. Even by your sudra-vrtti you can satisfy Krsna. That possibility is here, that Krsna says sva-karmana tam abhyarcya
C
- Caitanya Mahaprabhu condemned this principle strongly. During His conversation with Ramananda Raya, He said that regardless of whether a person is born in a brahmana family or sudra family 1) if he knows the science of Krsna he must be a spiritual master
- Caitanya Mahaprabhu did not identify Himself with any of the eight varnas and asramas, namely, brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra, brahmacari, grhastha, vanaprastha and sannyasa. He identified Himself as the Supreme Spirit
- Caitanya Mahaprabhu had many so-called sudra disciples like Haridasa Thakura and Ramananda Raya
- Caitanya Mahaprabhu has recommended (CC Madhya 8.128) - Whether one be a brahmana or a sudra or a sannyasi or a householder, it doesn't matter. If he knows the science of Krsna, he's a bona fide spiritual master
- Caitanya Mahaprabhu proved that a person like Ramananda Raya, although born in a sudra family and situated in the grhastha-asrama, can become the spiritual master of such exalted personalities as Himself and Pradyumna Misra
- Caitanya Mahaprabhu says, "I am not a brahmana. I am not a ksatriya. I am not a vaisya. I am not a sudra," because the material human society designation is the varnasrama according to Vedic civilization
- Caitanya met Ramananda Raya, and He was talking about spiritual subject matter, very highly elevated, simply. Bcause he was born in a sudra family and a grhastha and a politician, so he was hesitating that, Caitanya Mahaprabhu is a brahmana and sannyasi
- Camasa Muni addressed the King Nimi, "The four social orders, namely the brahmanas, the ksatriyas, the vaisyas, and the sudras, have come out of the different parts of the universal form of the Supreme Lord"

- Cari varna means four castes, four division of human society: the brahmin, the ksatriyas, the vaisyas and the sudra. They have got their specific duties. One who is brahmin, he has got his specific duty
- Classless society means sudra. So how a sudra can be equal to the brahmana, ksatriya? But if you earn money, then you are more than brahmana, you are more than a sannyasi. This is Kali-yuga. So therefore people are after money only
- Cobbler is taken as the low..., those who prepare, expert in skin. So they are generally very poor man. Now they have advanced, because now the Kali-yuga is the age of the sudras
- Combination of fools and rascals and sudras cannot bring about peace and prosperity in this world. Therefore we find periodic upheavals in society in the forms of battles, communal riots and fratricidal quarrels
- Communism is a movement of sudras, and capitalism is meant for vaisyas
- Communists means the so-called low-class people, sudras and candalas, they are now in majority. They have formed a government that on principle, as soon as some brahmana comes for government service, he will reject. So the brahmanas are now hiding
- Competition. That is material disease. Now there is competition in between the capitalist and the Communist. Now the Communist or the laborer class men are thinking that, why the capitalist should gain? We must gain
- Considering that women, sudras and dvija-bandhus (unworthy sons of the twice-born) cannot understand the Vedic hymns directly, Srila Vyasadeva compiled the Mahabharata
D
- Democracy has proved a farce. It has no meaning, because people are not educated. People are mostly sudras. There must be four classes of men
- Devotional service performed by thinking of the Supreme Personality of Godhead is so powerful that although Prsadhra was cursed he avoided the terrible consequence of becoming a sudra and instead returned home, back to Godhead
- Dhruva Maharaja indirectly informed the great sage Narada that there are four kinds of human spirit - the brahminical spirit, the ksatriya spirit, the vaisya spirit and the sudra spirit. The spirit of one caste is not applicable to the members of another
- Division means under the jurisdiction of the three modes of material nature. That is division. Otherwise, brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra, these divisions are calculated when one is under the control of the material nature
- Do not eat anything brought or touched by a sudra nor anything seen by a woman in her menstrual period. Do not drink water by joining your palms

- During my Guru Maharaja's time, even a person was coming from a brahmana family, he was initiated according to the pancaratrika system taking him to be a sudra. So the birthright brahmanism is not applicable at the present moment
- Dvija-bandhus are certainly not as intelligent as the children of the regular twice-born families. The dvija-bandhus are classified with the sudras and the woman class, who are by nature less intelligent
E
- Educational institutions should not aim to teach technology, for a technologist cannot properly be called educated. A technologist is a sudra; only one who studies the Vedas may properly be called a learned man - pandita
- Either he's externally a brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra, American, Indian, black, white, it doesn't matter. That is bodily. When you come to the spiritual platform, that is one. Because spirit is one
- Either you become brahmana or you become ksatriya or you become vaisya or sudra, if you are not attached to the service of the supreme whole, then you are useless
- Engaging in the service of low-grade persons, however, is called sva-vrtti, the profession of the dogs. Specifically, brahmanas and ksatriyas should not engage in the low and abominable service of sudras
- Even born in a Brahmin family, a woman is taken as woman, not as Brahmin. But Krsna says - Never mind. Even if she is woman, even she is sudra, even she is vaisya, or any other. If anyone is bona-fidely made KC, so his way is open to the path of Vaikuntha
- Even if one is born a sudra, if he is actually engaged in the occupation and pure behavior of a brahmana, he becomes a brahmana
- Even if one is by qualification a sudra, he must try to improve his position and become a brahmana. No one should try to check a person, no matter what his present position is, from coming to the platform of a brahmana or a Vaisnava
- Even if one is not a perfect brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya or sudra but takes to the service of the Lord, not caring for the perfection of his social position, he becomes a perfect human being simply by developing the attitude of service to the Supreme Lord
- Even in human life, while observing the principles of varna and asrama-brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra, brahmacarya, grhastha, vanaprastha and sannyasa - one must ultimately accept sannyasa, the renounced order
- Even in the ordinary moral codes (maintained by Canakya Pandita, the great politician and moralist) there is no harm in taking lessons from a person who may be by birth less than a sudra. This is one part of the answer
- Even papa-yoni, degraded birth, even women, sudra and vaisya, they also can become fully Krsna conscious by training. And they can also go back to home, back to Godhead, without any check
- Even though a man is a sudra serving a bad master, he has to carry out the order of the master, even though it shouldn't be done. Despite these flaws, 1 should continue to carry out his prescribed duties, for they're born out of his own nature. BG 1972 p
- Even though the people are in the status of sudra, they should be given opportunity for spiritual advancement, and that is Caitanya's special gift, and very easy, that "Whatever you may be, that doesn't matter. Chant Hare Krsna and gradually realize
- Even though you are now in sudras, but don’t make mistake to find out a master who is a nonsense. Then life is spoiled
- Eventually if a person could not identify himself as a brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya or sudra, he used to introduce himself as a kayastha to get a wealthy and honorable position
- Every householder of the higher castes should engage himself in his own occupational duty as a brahmana, ksatriya or vaisya, but he should not engage in the service of others, for this is the duty of a sudra
- Every Indian was educated how to become a brahmana, for coming to this platform of austerity. And following the examples of brahmana, the ksatriya and the vaisyas and the sudras, they also benefited
- Everyone has got different types of occupation. As it is stated in the Bhagavad-gita, brahma-karma, ksatriya-karma, vaisya-karma, sudra-karma
- Everyone is born a sudra, completely dependent. Samskarad bhaved dvijah: but when he is initiated by purificatory processes, he is called twice-born. This initiation process means he surpasses the ordinary birth
- Everyone is born sudra by birth. It is not that by birth one becomes brahmana; otherwise the sastra would not have stated like this, that janmana jayate sudrah, "By birth everyone is sudra."
- Everyone is born sudra, and by undergoing the reformation process, he becomes twice-born. The father is the spiritual master, and the mother is Vedic knowledge
- Everyone is born sudra. But if one does not accept the samskaras, he remains a sudra, not that sudras are not allowed to take samskara
- Everyone is born sudra. Just like this child. This child is dependent completely. Just like animal is dependent, the child is also dependent. So they say, Vedic learned scholars, they say janmana jayate sudrah - Prema-vivarta
- Everyone is sudra. Kalau sudra-sambhavah. Who is going to become brahmana? We are inviting everyone, "Come here, become brahmana." Who is interested?
- Everyone should be employed. And his employment will be provided from any of these groups, according to his capacity. Either as a brahmana, or as a ksatriya, or as a vaisya, or as a sudra
- Everyone should find out whether he is a brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya or sudra and should thus be educated accordingly. Then his life will be successful. Otherwise, all of human society will be confused
- Everyone was happy in his position, everyone - brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra. The culture was so nice that nobody was unhappy, even if he is a sudra or even if he is a vaisya or a brahmana or ksatriya

F
- Factually the qualifications of a spiritual master depend on his knowledge of the science of Krsna. It does not matter whether he is a brahmana, ksatriya, sannyasi or sudra
- Fall down to the standard of sudras
- First birth is sudra. The next birth, when he is trained up by the guru in Vedic knowledge, that is real birth
- First-class men, they should cultivate knowledge to guide the human society, brahmana. Sama dama titiksa (BG 18.42). They should learn, ideal men. Under their advice. . . Brahmana is considered to be the guru of other sections: ksatriya, vaisya, sudra
- Five hundred years ago, it was the system that persons who were born in the families of brahmanas were accepted as brahmanas & all those who took birth in other families - even the higher castes, namely, the ksatriyas and vaisyas - were considered sudras
- Five hundred years ago, vaisyas, especially those of the suvarna-vanik community, were accepted as sudras in Bengal, and even the vaidyas, who were generally physicians, were also considered sudras
- Foolishly proud of their (pasandi's) material birth as brahmanas and their consequently higher position in the social order, they think of the other classes - namely the ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras - as lower classes
- For a brahmana or a ksatriya, engaging in the service of the vaisyas or sudras is considered the profession of dogs
- For each class (namely brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras) there are prescribed rules and regulations as well as occupational functions. The prescribed duties and qualities of the four classes are described in - Bhagavad-gita 18.41-44
- For example, if the family is brahmana their contamination period is 12 days, for the ksatriyas and vaisyas it is 15 days, and for sudras 30 days
- For example, the epics or the histories of Ramayana and Mahabharata, which are specifically recommended for the less intelligent classes (women, sudras and unworthy sons of the higher castes), are also accepted as Vedic literature
- For management, this division must be there. Otherwise it will be mismanagement. Yes. A Vaisnava coming to the position of doing the work of a sudra does not mean he has become sudra. He's Vaisnava
- For now there are actually no brahmanas or ksatriyas but only some vaisyas and, for the most part, sudras
- For the sudras the only duty is to accept a master from a higher social order and engage in his service
- For understanding one's relationship with the Supreme Lord human society is divided into four classes: the intellectuals - brahmanas, the administrators - ksatriyas, the merchants - vaisyas, and the laborers - sudras
- For women, for sudras, and for the dvija bandhu. They cannot understand what is Vedas
- Formerly the system was that not the brahmana, er, vaisya or sudra can occupy the royal throne. Only the ksatriyas. Now, in the Kali-yuga, there is no such thing, who is ksatriya, who is a brahmana
- Formerly, the members of the higher castes - the brahmanas, ksatriyas and vaisyas (everyone but the sudras) - were trained in the guru-kula to adhere to a life of renunciation and sense control by practicing brahmacarya and mystic yoga
- Four orders of spiritual life and four orders of material life, brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra. This is called varnasrama-dharma. So India, it is especially practiced, India
- Four varnas: brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra; and four asramas: brahmacari, grhastha, vanaprastha, and sannyasa. These are called varnasrama-dharma. So in every varna, brahmana, his qualification is described in the sastra
- From every position, as confirmed in Bhagavad-gita, sva-karmana tam abhyarcya: (BG 18.46) one can serve the Supreme Lord by performing one's prescribed duty. It is not that only the brahmanas can serve the Supreme Lord and not the sudras
- From the birth, as I have explained, everyone is sudra. Sudra means one who laments. That is called sudra. For a slight loss or slight inconvenience, one who laments, he is called sudra. And brahmins means one who tolerates. A sudra has no toleration
- From the mouth of Brahma, the brahminical order has come into existence. Similarly, from his arms the ksatriyas have come, from his waist the vaisyas have come, and from his legs the sudras have come
- Full of kama and lobha, lust and greed, the entire population of the world consists mostly of sudras and a few vaisyas, and gradually it is coming about that there are sudras only

- God does not say: "Only the brahmin class of men, please come here. Others all rejected." No. He is inviting everyone. Even the lowest of the lowest, low-born, papa-yonayah, women, sudra or vaisyas, everyone
- Govinda came from a sudra family, but because he was initiated by Isvara Puri, he was certainly a brahmana. Sarvabhauma Bhattacarya here (in CC Madhya 10.136) asked Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu why Isvara Puri accepted a disciple from a sudra family
- Guru must transfer his qualities to the student. How it is there that a man makes one's person as disciple and he remains a sudra? What is this nonsense? Can sudra be initiated? No. No sudra can be initiated
H
- Haridasa Thakura, out of his great humility, did not want to violate these existing rules - that only brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras can enter the temple of Jagannatha Puri
- Having divided the remaining food with his relatives, Rantideva was just about to eat his own share when a sudra guest arrived. Seeing the sudra in relationship with the Supreme Personality of Godhead, King Rantideva gave him also a share of the food
- Having no knowledge of the ultimate goal of life, such persons (sudras) whimsically enact laws without knowledge of life's purpose. The result is that no one is happy
- He (Caitanya) stated that any man, whatever he may be, whether a brahmana or sudra by birth, or a householder or mendicant in the order of society, if he is conversant with the science of Krsna, he can be accepted as an acarya or guru, a spiritual master
- He (Isvara Puri) accepted Govinda, although the boy was born in a sudra family. When Govinda was initiated, he became a brahmana and was accepted as Isvara Puri’s personal servant
- He (Lord Caitanya) said that it does not matter whether the preacher is in the renounced order of life, or a family man, or a brahmana or a sudra - nothing is hampering in the process of preaching Krishna Consciousness
- He (Lord Rsabhadeva) ruled the people according to the system of varnasrama-dharma, which enjoins that the brahmanas instruct the ksatriyas and the ksatriyas administer to the state through the vaisyas and sudras
- He (Srila Haridasa Thakura) had every right to enter the temple of Jagannatha Puri, but because there were some rules and regulations stipulating that only brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras (members of the varnasrama-dharma system) could enter
- He (the true acarya) is the spiritual master of all the varnas (brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra) and all the asramas - brahmacarya, grhastha, vanaprastha and sannyasa
- He (Vidura) was practically insulted by Duryodhana's calling him a son of a sudrani, although it was not out of place to talk loosely in the case of one's grandmother
- He may be an Indian or American, Hindu, Muslim or Christian, man, woman, brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra or whatever - in any case he is meant to do some sort of work, and that work is his occupational duty
- He would also take gifts to the homes of Vaisnavas born in sudra families. Then he would hide and in this manner eat the remnants of food they threw away
- Here (in SB 7.11.24) it is recommended that a first-class sudra must remain very clean, must not steal or speak lies, and must always render service to his master
- Here I see the Europeans, they are working as the ksatriyas, government, and the Indians they are working as vaisya, and the Africans, they are as sudras. But where is brahmana? There is no brahmana; therefore it is not good
- Herein (SB 7.11.35) it is clearly stated by Narada Muni that one should not be accepted as a brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya or sudra according to birth, for although this is going on now, it is not accepted by the sastras
- His (Caitanya Mahaprabhu's) purpose was that in this Kali-yuga the distinction between brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra will be almost finished. Then who will instruct? Because the instructor's position is brahmana. One must be brahmana
- His viewpoint is that everyone - whether he be brahmana or sudra, black or white, Hindu, Christian, or whatever - should come to Krsna consciousness. When one is situated in this way, then - he becomes eligible for becoming a pure devotee of Krsna's
- How everyone can be military man? Because they are sending sudras to Vietnam they are unnaturally being killed
- However, being unable to stick to these principles, these rascals again fall down and take shelter among sudras who are very expert in making arrangements for sex indulgence
- Human civilization is based on the qualitative divisions of social order, namely the intelligent class, the martial class, the productive class and the laborer class
- Human life is meant for understanding the spiritual value of life, but on account of the people being sudras, they are not interested. They are forgetting the real purpose of life
- Human life is specifically meant for going back home, back to Godhead. That facility should be given to everyone, whether one be a sudra, a vaisya, a woman or a ksatriya. This is the purpose of the Krsna consciousness movement
- Human society all over the world is divided into four castes and four orders of life. The four castes are the intelligent caste, the martial caste, the productive caste and the laborer caste
- Human society is meant to follow strictly the varnasrama-dharma, which divides society into four social divisions (brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra) and four spiritual divisions - brahmacarya, grhastha, vanaprastha and sannyasa
- Human society should be divided into a social system of brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras, but everyone can engage in devotional service
- Human society should be divided into four divisions - brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra - and everyone should always engage in his occupational duty
I
- I (Caitanya Mahaprabhu) am not a brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya or sudra. I am not a brahmacari, grhastha, vanaprastha or sannyasi. What am I? I am the eternal servant of the servant of the servant of Lord Krsna
- I (Vyasadeva) have abided by the rulings and have shown the import of disciplic succession through the explanation of the Mahabharata, by which even women, sudras and others (friends of the twice-born) can see the path of religion
- I am not a brahmana, I am not a ksatriya, I am not a vaisya or a sudra. Nor am I a brahmacari, a householder, a vanaprastha or a sannyasi. I identify Myself only as the servant of the servant of the servant of the lotus feet of Lord Sri Krsna
- I approached many respectable friends for giving me at least one boy from each family to be trained up in this line of self-realization, but I was not successful. The parents had no interest, the same difficulty of sudra mentality
- I saw one husband and wife pulling on a thela, hand-cart, with great load, and the small child is on the load. That means their child. They are laborer class. But ordinary laborer class, poor man, but they are living husband and wife and children happily
- If a man is born in a brahmana family but his personal qualifications are those of a sudra, he should be accepted as a sudra
- If a person born in a sudra family has developed the qualities of a brahmana, such as satya (truthfulness), sama (peacefulness), dama (self-control) and arjava (simplicity), he attains the exalted position of a brahmana
- If a person born in the family of a brahmana has the symptoms of a sudra, he should be designated as a sudra. Similarly, if a sudra has brahminical qualities, he should be designated a brahmana
- If a person is born in a sudra family but has all the qualities of a spiritual master, he should be accepted not only as a brahmana but as a qualified spiritual master also. This is also the instruction of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu
- If a sudra acquires the qualities of a brahmana, although he was born in a sudra family, he is not a sudra; because he has developed the qualities of a brahmana, he should be accepted as a brahmana
- If all the unqualified sudras become so-called brahmanas and ksatriyas, social order will be impossible to maintain. Thus there will be discrepancies, human society will turn into a society of animals, and the situation all over the world will be hellish
- If anyone depends on the master's mercy, he's a sudra. Here in Delhi, New Delhi, these big, big buildings, big, big officers, as soon as the government will fail, they will be street dogs, that's all
- If brahminical qualifications are found in the person of a sudra, he should immediately be accepted as a brahmana. To substantiate this there are many quotations from SB, Mahabharata, Bharadvaja-samhita & the pancaratra, as well as many other scriptures
- If everyone is sudra, without any aim of life, then there will be chaos. Just like in your country, in spite of so much facility for education, the students are produced hippies, useless for all purposes
- If he (a sudra) is inquisitive, that "What is the value of life?" then the Vedic literatures asking, tad-vijnanartham sa gurum evabhigacchet (Mundaka Upanisad 1.2.12): then you must search out a bona fide spiritual master
- If he (sudra) accepts Krsna, then he also attains the perfection, goes back to home, back to Godhead. So there is no cause of disappointment because everyone has become sudra
- If not animals, they are all sudras; nobody brahmana, nobody ksatriya, nobody vaisya. So it is a chaotic condition of the human society. Therefore it cannot be revived to the original position of systematic institutional position
- If one - in the role of a brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya or sudra and keeps busy and does not remember one's eternal relationship with the Lord, one's business and activities as well as occupational duties will simply be a waste of time
- If one actually wants to serve Krsna, it doesn’t matter whether one is a sudra, vaisya or even a woman
- If one associates with a sudra, a foolish person who is like a dancing dog in the hands of a woman, then he cannot make any progress
- If one does not observe the regulative principle, then he should not declare himself as brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra
- If one executes his duties as a brahmana, Visnu will be very pleased, and if one executes his duties perfectly as a ksatriya or sudra, Visnu will also be very pleased
- If one executes his duties as a perfect ksatriya, vaisya, sudra or whatever, Visnu will be pleased. The purpose of work is to please Visnu. Unfortunately, people have forgotten this
- If one happens to be a ksatriya he has the power to punish any man; therefore a ksatriya should at once cut out the tongue of the vilifier and kill him. But as far as the vaisyas and sudras are concerned, they should immediately give up their bodies
- If one has developed the qualities of a sudra or a candala, regardless of where he was born, he should be accepted in terms of those symptoms
- If one hears and chants without trying to give up offenses, one may consider Vaisnavas in terms of birth, thinking one a brahmana Vaisnava, another a sudra Vaisnava, another a mleccha Vaisnava and so on
- If one is able to factually answer the questions about the science of Krsna, he is the spiritual master, regardless of where he is born or what he is - whether he be a brahmana or sudra or American, Indian or whatever
- If one is born a sudra, he must continually return to the ocean of Puyoda to eat horrible things. Thus even a born sudra is expected to become a brahmana; that is the meaning of human life. Everyone should improve himself
- If one is not a devotee of Lord Krsna, however, even if born in a brahmana, ksatriya or vaisya family, he should be considered a sudra
- If one is not able to meditate in such a way (which make one understand that one himself is the Supreme), then there are prescribed duties, as enjoined in the Vedic literature, for the brahmanas, vaisyas, and sudras. BG 1972 purports
- If one is not purified by the process of the seed-giving ceremony, or garbhadhana-samskara, he is immediately classified amongst the sudras because only the sudras do not undergo this purificatory process
- If one is proclaiming as a ksatriya, he must act as a ksatriya. Otherwise, there will be no restriction, and a sudra will claim to be brahmana. That will create a disturbing situation. In Prthu Maharaja's time it was strictly prohibited
- If one is satisfied to remain a sudra, he must suffer as described in this verse (SB 5.26.23): tad evatibibhatsitam asnanti
- If one shows the symptoms of being a brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya or sudra, as described above, even if he has appeared in a different class, he should be accepted according to those symptoms of classification
- If one somehow or other comes in contact with the Hare Krsna movement, without consideration of his being a sudra, vaisya, Jagai, Madhai or even lower, he becomes advanced in spiritual consciousness and immediately develops love of Godhead
- If one wants to live without devotional service, his status as a brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya or sudra certainly has no meaning

- Krsna consciousness is a very simple process. One need only chant the holy names of the Lord and strictly follow the principles forbidding sinful activity. In this way one can no longer be considered an untouchable, a visayi or a sudra
- Krsna consciousness is so complete that it is all-embracing. Everyone has an occupational duty as a brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya or sudra, but one does not have to give up his occupational duty to take to Krsna consciousness

- Ksatriya have got three asramas: brahmacari, grhastha, vanaprastha, no sannyasa. And the vaisya two asramas: brahmacari, grhastha. Neither vanaprastha or sannyasa. And the sudras, they are simply one, grhastha, that's all. This is the Vedic order

- Maharaja Pariksit, well equipped with arrows and bow and seated on a gold-embossed chariot, spoke to him (the sudra) with a deep voice sounding like thunder
- Many other sannyasis stress the importance of the social position of the body as a brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya or sudra. Such sannyasis are considered the greatest rascals
- Marriage between a boy of the vipra-varna and a girl of the sudra-varna is incompatible; married life would be miserable for both husband and wife. Consequently a boy should marry a girl of the same category
- Materialistic people are sometimes called sudras, or descendants of monkeys, due to their monkeylike intelligence. They do not care to know how the evolutionary process is taking place
- Materialistic people do not care to know how the evolutionary process is taking place, nor are they eager to know what will happen after they finish their small human life span. This is the attitude of sudras
- Materialistic people like stri, sudra and dvija-bandhu cannot understand words of spiritual advancement, yet one can take to the shelter of a Vaisnava, for he knows the art of enlightening even sudras
- Medical man. Nobody asks him, "Are you a brahmin? Then I make my treatment with you." Nobody asks that. So this is the sastric injunction. Then later on this caste brahmanism, sudra-ism made the whole thing, whole Hindu culture, Vedic culture, spoiled
- Men of the higher classes (the brahmanas, ksatriyas and vaisyas) should cultivate knowledge of Brahman, and they should also give the sudras a chance to come to that platform. If instead they indulge in hunting, they are punished
- Millions and millions of years ago, when Narada Muni was a Gandharva, he neglected the order to glorify the Lord, and being mad in the association of women, he began to chant otherwise. Thus he was cursed to become a sudra
- Murari Gupta could not be called even a brahma-bandhu because he was born of a vaidya family and according to the social structure was therefore considered a sudra
N
- Natimanita, not expecting honor, applies to the sudras, the worker class, which are considered, according to Vedic injunctions, to be the lowest of the four classes. BG 1972 purports
- No one knows (in modern times) who is a brahmana, who is a ksatriya, who is a vaisya or who is a sudra, and people claim to belong to a particular social order by birthright only
- No one should be unemployed. The brahmana should be employed, the ksatriya should be employed, the vaisya should be employed, and the sudra should be employed. If there was any difficulty, then it was the duty of the king to give them employment
- No, I don't want some to be sudra; I want everyone to become Vaisnava
- Nobody goes to a medical man to ask him, "Are you brahmana? Are you ksatriya? Are you sudra?" There is no such question. You see what he is by his quality, and by his work you know that he is a medical man
- Nobody wants to join military department. Why they will join? They have been trained up as sudra, and why they will be like the business of ksatriya? That is the problem
- Not by birth one becomes brahmana, and working less than a sudra, and he is still brahmana. This is not. . . This is nonsense. One must be guna-karma-vibhagasah (BG 4.13). The society is divided according to the quality he is working, accordingly
- Not that by birth, because one is born of a brahmana family, he remains a brahmana although he becomes less than sudra. No. There must be education. The twice-born, he must approach the spiritual master
- Not these camara, bhangis and sudras voted and become the president and minister. That will not be successful. That is not possible. There must be trained-up ksatriyas, then there will be good government
- Now I have got all degrees, and unless I get a good master, then I am street dog. - That is sudra. Just like a street dog has no value unless he gets a good master
- Nowadays I have practical experience that the draft board of your country is calling for boys to join the army, but they are not willing. They are not willing because they are not trained as ksatriyas, warriors. They are trained as sudras, laborers
- Nowadays they are educated, but they must have a good service. That means he's a sudra. Without finding a master, his education has no value. So therefore in the sastra it is said, - In this age, Kali-yuga, everyone is sudra
- Nowadays, a sudra is on the government. A person who is a nonsense number one, he has no knowledge, he is on the head of the government. The things have been topsy-turvied
- Nowadays, either brahmana, ksatriya or vaisya, practically everything is lost. Nobody is executing his occupational duties. Simply sudra, without any knowledge or any enlightenment. Try to get some money & fill up your belly & go on sleeping, that's all
O
- O my friends, O sons of demons, everyone, including you (the Yaksas and Raksasas), the unintelligent women, sudras and cowherd men, the birds, the lower animals and the sinful living entities, can revive his original, eternal spiritual life
- O son of Prtha, those who take shelter in Me (Krsna), though they be of lower birth - women, vaisyas (merchants) and sudras (workers) - can attain the supreme destination - BG 9.32
- O son of Prtha, those who take shelter in Me (Krsna), though they be of lower birth - women, vaisyas (merchants), as well as sudras (workers) - can approach the supreme destination
- O son of Prtha, those who take shelter in Me, though they be of lower birth-women, vaisyas (merchants), as well as sudras (workers) - can approach the supreme destination. BG 9.32 - 1972
- O son of Surabhi, you need lament no longer now. There is no need to fear this low-class sudra. And, O mother cow, as long as I am living as the ruler and subduer of all envious men, there is no cause for you to cry. Everything will be good for you
- Occupational duties are known as varnasrama-dharma and apply to the four divisions of material and spiritual life - namely brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra, and brahmacarya, grhastha, vanaprastha and sannyasa
- Offering obeisances to the higher sections of society, being always very clean, being free from duplicity, serving one's master, performing sacrifices without uttering mantras - these are the symptoms of the sudra
- On account of the yajana, the brahmana, being the head of society, performs all the Vedic rituals for ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras. This is called yajana, assisting others in performing ceremonies. The remaining two items are dana and pratigraha
- On the way home, he came upon a sudra, a very lusty, fourth-class man, who was shamelessly embracing and kissing a prostitute. The sudra was smiling, singing and enjoying as if this were proper behavior
- One class of men (the brahmanas) must be intelligent and brahminically qualified, another class must be trained in administrative work (ksatriya), another in mercantile business (vaisya) and another simply in labor (sudra)
- One doesn't have to give up his occupation as a brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra or whatever. In any position, while discharging his prescribed duty, one can develop Krsna consciousness simply by associating with devotees who are Krsna's representatives
- One has to be enlightened. As the sudra can be enlightened under good protection, similarly, a woman can also be enlightened
- One has to execute his prescribed duties according to his social position as a brāhmaṇa, kṣatriya, vaiśya or śūdra. The prescribed duties of the four classes of men in human society are also described in Bhagavad-gītā
- One may be a brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya or sudra, or one may perfectly follow the spiritual principles of brahmacarya, grhastha, vanaprastha and sannyasa, but ultimately one falls down into a hellish condition unless one becomes a devotee
- One may be a sudra, vaisya or woman, but if one is situated in the service of the Lord in Krsna consciousness, one should not be considered stri, sudra, vaisya or lower than sudra
- One must be properly qualified to enter into the transcendental subject matter. Everyone and anyone cannot. Sudras, those who are in sudra qualification, how they can understand Vedas? It is not possible
- One must collect money for the temple expenditures, or if one is a householder he must go to work in accordance with the prescribed duties of a brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya or sudra
- One must give up the occupational duties of a sudra, ksatriya or vaisya and adopt the occupational duties of a Vaisnava, which include the activities of a brahmana
- One must ultimately worship Lord Visnu, and for that purpose the varnasrama system organizes society into brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas, sudras, brahmacaris, grhasthas, vanaprasthas and sannyasis
- One must work as a brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya or sudra on the material path. and on the spiritual path, everyone should act as a brahmacari, grhastha, vanaprastha or sannyasi
- One needs to be trained to become a brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya or sudra, just as one is trained to become an engineer, doctor or lawyer
- One should acquire the qualities of a brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya or sudra and act accordingly. This is the civilization accepted by the Aryans. Why do they accept it? They accept it because they are very much eager to satisfy Krsna
- One should not imitate another's duty. A man who is by nature attracted to the kind of work done by sudras should not artificially claim himself to be a brahmana, although he may be born into a brahmana family. BG 1972 purports
- One should not pose himself as transcending the stage of temple worship while one is actually in the category of the sudras and the women or less
- One who cannot be brought nearer to a spiritual master cannot have a sacred thread, and thus he is indicated to be a sudra
- One who chants omkara no longer remains a sudra but immediately comes to the position of a brahmana
- One who considers a devotee of the Supreme Personality of Godhead who was born in a family of sudras, nisadas or candalas to belong to that particular caste certainly goes to hell
- One who does not know this (that a man who has fallen in the ocean of nescience cannot be saved simply by rescuing the gross material body) and laments for the outward dress is called a sudra, or one who laments unnecessarily. BG 1972 purports
- One who has actually realized that the Supreme Personality of Godhead is situated in everyone's heart and that every living being is part of the Lord does not make any distinction between the brahmana and the sudra, the poor (daridra) and the rich
- One who is actually advanced in spiritual knowledge of Krsna is never a sudra, even though he may have been born in a sudra family
- One who is attached to the lowest quality, ignorance, his dharma is different from the person who is in the highest level of goodness. Therefore there are brahmin's dharma, ksatriya's dharma, vaisya's dharma and sudra's dharma
- One who is born of a brahmana father but does not act as a brahmana is called, in Vedic language, a brahma-bandhu, and is calculated to be on the level of sudras and women
- One who is unable to become a brahmin, let him become ksatriya. If he cannot become ksatriya, let him become a vaisya. Otherwise let him remain a sudra. But there should be ideal class, brahmin. So we are trying to create an ideal society of brahmin
- One who seriously comes to us, he has to become a brahmana. So he has to adopt the occupation of a brahmana, and he has to give up the occupation of a ksatriya or a sudra
- One who understands omkara and Visnu as being one and the same and all-pervading never laments in the material world, nor does he remain a sudra
- One's occupational duty is prescribed in Bhagavad-gita. As already discussed in previous verses, the duties of a brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra are prescribed according to the particular modes of nature. BG 1972 purports
- One's status does not depend upon birth. As confirmed in SB 7.11.35 by Narada: If one shows the symptoms of being a brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya or sudra, even if he has appeared in a different class, he should be accepted according to those symptoms
- Other sinful persons, such as dog-eaters & candalas, who are less than sudras, can also be freed in this way. But you are a devotee & we shall help you by performing the great horse sacrifice. If you please Narayana in that way, why should you be afraid?
- Our Krsna consciousness movement is teaching how to serve Krsna from any position. It doesn't matter. Whether you are a brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra, lawyer, engineer, or film actor or anything, it doesn't matter
- Our Krsna consciousness movement is trying to educate some brahmanas. If the society take our help and conduct the business of the society - ksatriya, vaisya, sudra - then there will be peace and prosperity. Otherwise there will be chaos and confusion
- Our principle is not to work like the karmi or under a karmi. We are not sudras. Sudras are meant for working under somebody, not brahmanas
- Our process is purification. Krsna consciousness means simply we are purifying our consciousness. From the birth, as I have explained, everyone is Sudra. Sudra means one who laments
- Our whole atmosphere is surcharged with sudra qualities, manifested by lust and avarice
P
- Padma Purana said, "And when they (people lower than sudra) are properly dressed, with tilaka on their bodies and beads in their hands and on their necks, they appear to be coming from Vaikuntha"
- Pandita means a brahmin is expected to know Brahma; therefore he is brahmin. Not by birth. Brahma janati. Janmana jayate sudrah. By birth everyone is sudra, fourth-class man
- Pandita, who knows what is what, he is sama-darsi, equipoised. He knows that the substance within the tree or substance with the dog or substance with the human being or substance within the brahmana or a sudra or a dog or candala - the soul is the same
- Papa-yoni means below the vaisyas, the sudras, they are papa-yonis. Striyo vaisyas tatha sudras. So there is no impediment to approach Krsna because you are a sudra, or candala or woman or vaisya. No. Everyone can. That facility is there
- Pariksit Maharaja, when he was going, and some person was sudra in the dress of a king, he was trying to kill a cow. Immediately Pariksit Maharaja took his sword: "Who are you, rascal, you are trying to kill a cow in my kingdom?" That is ksatriya
- People are misled. They are thinking that by material comfort they will be happy. And practically we are seeing, this competition of material comfort... The capitalist and the labor class, worker class, they are fighting - strike
- People think that simply by executing the occupational duties of a brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya or sudra or the duty of a brahmacari, grhastha, vanaprastha or sannyasi one becomes fearless or securely attains liberation
- Persons who are religiously endowed will be terrified by such men - descendants of brahmana or ksatriya forefathers that are sudra-like
- Please do not neglect him, thinking he belongs to a sudra family engaged in material activities. It is my request that You meet him without fail
- Practicing evil habits and behaving foolishly, the subjects will be like their rulers." The idea is that in the democratic days of Kali-yuga, the general population will fall down to the standard of sudras
- Prahlada Maharaja speaks of the vipras, the learned brahmanas. The learned brahmana is considered best among the divisions of brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra, but a devotee born in a low candala family is better than such brahmanas
- Prthu was a ksatriya, and he discharged his ksatriya duties perfectly. Similarly, brahmanas, vaisyas and sudras can discharge their respective duties perfectly and thus at the ultimate end of life be promoted to the transcendental world, or param padam
R
- Ramadasa replied, "I am a sudra, a fallen soul. To serve a brahmana is my duty and religious principle"
- Ramananda Raya belonged to the second class. He was not a brahmana. In Orissa, the Karana, they are accepted as sudras
- Ramananda Raya was a grhastha belonging to the sudra class, yet Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu arranged for him to be the master who taught Pradyumna Misra, a highly qualified brahmana born in a brahmana family
- Ramananda Raya, he was also a sudra, and he was a householder and a politician, governor, but Caitanya Mahaprabhu took instruction from him. Caitanya Mahaprabhu gave him the preference of being a teacher. Ramananda Raya was hesitating
- Regardless of whether one be a brahmana, sudra, vaisya, ksatriya, or even the lowest of men, a candala, he should be welcome to accept prasada
- Residential quarters were so arranged that the different castes - brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras - had their respective quarters. It appears from this that the caste system mentioned in the Bhagavad-gita existed even at that time
S
- Samskara means purificatory process. So that is human life, not that to beget a child. That begetting is going on by the cats and dogs. That is first birth. Janmana jayate sudrah. So that kind of birth is accepted as sudra. Then he can be trained up
- Sannyasa, the renounced order of life, is the topmost position for a brahmana, a member of the highest of the four varnas - brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra
- Sarvabhauma Bhattacarya informed Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu that Ramananda Raya, although belonging to the sudra class, was a highly responsible government officer
- Sati decided to give up her body because she thought herself to be among the sudras and vaisyas. As stated in Bhagavad-gita (BG 9.32), striyo vaisyas tatha sudrah. Women, laborers and the mercantile class are on the same level
- Sattva-guna is the stage of brahmana, rajo-guna is the stage of ksatriya, and tamo-guna is the stage of sudra, and mixed together is the stage of vaisya. Vaisya has mixed quality; and pure sattva-guna, brahmana; pure rajo-guna, ksatriya
- Saunaka Rsi inquired: Why did Maharaja Pariksit simply punish him, since he was the lowest of the sudras, having dressed as a king and having struck a cow on the leg? Please describe all these incidents if they relate to the topics of Lord Krsna
- Schooling is meant especially for brahmanas; previously there was no question of schooling for ksatriyas, vaisyas or sudras
- Service was manifested from the legs of the Personality of Godhead for the sake of perfecting the religious function. Situated on the legs are the sudras, who satisfy the Lord by service
- Sex life without the purificatory process of Krsna consciousness is merely the seed-giving process of the sudras or the animals. Krsna consciousness is therefore the best process of purification
- She is expert in typing. Amongst the women, she is expert typist. She is expert in so many things. Only defect is that she is woman. But Krsna says, striyah sudras tatha vaisyah: "Never mind woman. If she is devotee, she also comes to Me."
- Simply by academic qualifications a sudra cannot understand the transcendental science
- Simply by manipulation, if one gets vote, he captures the governmental power. Sudra. He's a sudra. He is not a ksatriya like Maharaja Yudhisthira, trained up ksatriya
- Simply by satisfying the central point, Krsna, then you get samsiddhi. It doesn't matter whether you are a sudra or a brahmana or engineer or lawyer. The real point is how to satisfy Krsna
- Since everyone in this age is an unintelligent, unfortunate and disturbed sudra, how can anyone understand the Absolute Truth or the aim of life
- Since India has become dependent on foreign countries, the particular influences of her social orders have been lost; now, according to the scriptures, everyone is a śūdra
- Since it is recommended that vaisyas and sudras should immediately give up their bodies upon hearing blasphemy of an exalted person like Lord Siva, she decided to give up her life
- Since the Vedic society is divided into four classes of men - the brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras - their means of livelihood are also mentioned in the scriptures
- Since we have lost our responsible monarchical government, the four divisions of social order - means brahmana, ksatriya, vaisyas and sudra - they are deviated due to unemployment. The brahmana could not get sufficient engagement in their duties
- So at the present moment the society is chaos because there is no proper training for the particular class of man. A brahmana should be trained up, a ksatriya should be trained up, a vaisya should be trained up, a sudra should be trained up
- So far we are concerned, Krsna conscious, so long our bodily concept of life is not completely eradicated, we must follow the sva-dharma of the body. Brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra, ity adi. But when actually advanced, that is maha-bhagavata
- So far your keeping your job is concerned, if you are still engaged in that dishwashing job, you should give it up. That kind of work is meant for sudras, not for the brahmanas
- So just last evening one boy was criticizing Krsna that "Why Krsna makes this distinction stri-sudra-vaisya as papa-yoni?" So this is Godlessness, that we dare to criticize Krsna. We should not criticize Krsna
- So the whole society is divided into brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra, and brahmacari, grhastha, vanaprastha, sannyasa - departmental - and they are trained up
- So whether one is a brahmana or a sudra, he has to satisfy the Supreme Lord by his activities
- So, there is a process how to appreciate, how to become qualified to appreciate, and that system is called varnasrama-dharma, to divide the whole human society into four classes of men: the brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra
- So-called sudra disciples
- Society cannot be peaceful unless there are four divisions of human beings functioning in harmony with one another. These four divisions are comprised of brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras
- Society must be divided in the material stage of this brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra. And gradually, everyone should be educated to become brahmana. Athato brahma jijnasa. Brahma-bhutah. Then he will understand what is bhakti
- Society must be divided into four classes. As we have got four divisions in brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra must be there. And each one should serve according to his guna-karma, quality and capacity to work
- Society must have divisions of brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra, and for spiritual advancement one must gradually develop as a brahmacari, grhastha, vanaprastha and sannyasi
- Society needs first-class sadhus in order to improve. If everyone is a sudra and debauchee, how can society be peaceful
- Someone is thinking (because of associating with the three gunas) he is a brahmana, someone a ksatriya, & someone a vaisya or sudra. Actually, however, one is neither a brahmana, a ksatriya, a vaisya nor a sudra; one is part & parcel of the Supreme Lord
- Sometimes it happens that a sudra is taking the place of the brahmana or the brahmana is obliged to act as a sudra. Then there is anomaly. There is some chaos in the society
- Sometimes ksatriyas go to the forest to kill animals like deer because they have to learn the art of killing, and sometimes they eat the animals also. Sudras, too, eat animals such as goats
- Sometimes smartas consider Raghunatha dasa Gosvami a sudra. But Krsnadasa Kaviraja Gosvami here (in CC Adi 13.124) especially mentions svarupa-rupa-raghunathadasa
- Sometimes these colors (sukla-raktas tatha pitah) are used to designate the brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras
- Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu has said, "I am not a brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra, brahmacari or whatever. I am simply the servant of the servant of the servant of Krsna." One need only learn this process in order to render the best service to humanity
- Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu Himself accepted invitations from sudra-mahajanas, and this confirms the fact that anyone initiated by a Vaisnava mantra can be accepted as a brahmana. One can accept an invitation from such a person
- Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu indicated that it does not matter whether the spiritual master is a grhastha (householder), a sannyasi or even a sudra
- Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu then inquired whether he was Ramananda Raya, and he replied, "Yes, I am Your very low servant, and I belong to the sudra community"
- Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu's cult must be preached all over the world. This does not mean that people should take to His teachings and remain sudras or candalas. As soon as one is trained as a pure Vaisnava, he must be accepted as a bona fide brahmana
- Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu's mission, this Krsna consciousness movement, is trying to elevate sudras to the brahmana platform so that they will know the real goal of life
- Sri Ramananda Raya belonged to the karana class, which is the equivalent of the kayastha class in Bengal. This class is regarded all over India as sudra
- Sri Ramananda Raya explained that one may stay in his own position, whether as a brahmana, a sudra, a sannyasi or whatever, but one must try to inquire about life's goal (athato brahma jijnasa). This is the proper utilization of the human form of life
- Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura also states that although one is situated as a brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra, brahmacari, vanaprastha, grhastha or sannyasi, if he is conversant in the science of Krsna he can become a spiritual master
- Srila Ramananda Raya belonged to this karana class; therefore he was considered a sudra. He was also the governor of South India under the regime of Maharaja Prataparudra of Orissa
- Srila Vyasadeva divided the Vedas into various branches and subbranches for the sake of the less intelligent classes like the dvija-bandhus, sudras and women
- Stri means women, sudra means the lower class of civilized human society, and brahma-bandhu means persons who are born in the families of brahmanas but do not follow the rules and regulations carefully
- Stri, women, and vaisya and sudra, they're also considered not very in higher position. But Krsna says all of them, if they take to real path of devotional service under the direction of spiritual master, then that is sadhana-bhakti
- Striyah sudras tatha vaisyah. A woman is meant for being protected. So long she is not young, she is under the protection of the father. And as soon as she is young, she is given in charge, in charity. Kanya-dana. Dana means charity
- Studying the Vedic literatures is compulsory for everyone but the sudras and antyajas
- Such (Vidura) a devotee is neither a sudra nor a brahmana. He is transcendental to divisions of mundane society, just as the Personality of Godhead assumes His incarnation as a hog, but He is neither a hog nor a Brahma. He is above all mundane creatures
- Sudra cannot give you any education. That is not possible. Education has to be taken from brahmana. That is Vedic system. Brahmana is the teacher because they are trained up
- Sudra culture
- Sudra is general assistant
- Sudra means dog's position. If he does not get a nice master, then he's street dog
- Sudra means one who cannot take any reformation. But one who can take up the reformation, he can be situated as a brahmana, as a ksatriya, as a vaisya. This is not by birth, but by education, by training
- Sudra means one who has no education, no culture. That is called Sudra. So that is the remnants. First of all, Brahmin, Ksatriya, Vaisyas; and others, those who have no sufficient brain, they are counted as Sudra
- Sudra means those who are neither brahmana nor ksatriya nor vaisyas. They are simply worker, assistant. So there must be division like this. The brahmanas should guide the ksatriyas, and the ksatriyas will administer the state
- Sudra means workers. They haven't got much intelligence, neither they can work as administrator or traders, but they work and get some salary
- Sudras also, they abide by the Vedic orders. They do not do whimsically whatever he likes
- Sudras and women who are chaste and sincerely interested in understanding the Absolute Truth are qualified to be initiated with the pancaratrika-mantras
- Sudras means non-Aryan. And Aryans, they are divided into three higher castes. Caste means according to profession and quality. That is caste
- Sudras must work; sometimes they should engage in occupational duties as cloth manufacturers, weavers, blacksmiths, goldsmiths, brass-smiths, and so on, or else they should engage in hard labor to produce food grains
- Sudras were not supposed to understand Vedic knowledge. Especially brahmanas and ksatriyas
- Sudras who could not improve themselves fall into that ocean (filled with pus, stool, urine, mucus, saliva and similar things) and are forced to eat those disgusting things
- Sudras, the working class, would help the higher three classes by manual labor. This is the perfect social system
- Sudras, they have no knowledge. They commit mistake over and over
- Surrendered souls, even from groups leading sinful lives, such as women, the laborer class, the mountaineers and the Siberians, or even the birds and beasts, can also know about the science of Godhead and become liberated from the clutches of maya
- Sva-dharma means one may be in goodness, one may be in passion, one may be in darkness, and one may be in mixture. So that is divided into four classes of men: the brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra
T
- Talents are divided into three categories: the brahmin category, and the ksatriya category, the vaisya category and the sudra category. They are described here - BG 18.42
- Tamo-guna means laziness and sleep. The sudras, they are in laziness and sleep. So if they have got something to eat, they will not work. Laziness. Or eat more and sleep. This is tamo-guna
- Technology is meant for the sudras, whereas the Vedas are meant for the dvijas. Consequently this verse (SB 7.12.13-14) states, dvijo 'dhityavabudhya ca trayim sangopanisadam
- Technology means sudra. Technology is not the business of a brahmana, ksatriya, or vaisya. No. Just like blacksmith, goldsmith, carpenter, craftsman. These are technology. They are meant for the sudras
- That classification (the brahminical class, the ksatriya class, the vaisya class, and the sudra class according to the qualities of a person) is wanted. That must be there
- That division (brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya & sudra) is there all over the world. Either you name differently, but these four classes of men are there, either in India or in America or Hawaii or Japan or anywhere
- That is a natural arrangement made by the supreme order, for it is confirmed in the Bhagavad-gita that four social orders or castes, namely the brahmanas, the ksatriyas, the vaisyas and the sudras, are set up according to quality and work done by them
- That is also sudra training, to become obedient. Because people are not obedient. What are these hippies? They are not obedient. So obedience also require training
- That is ksatriya's duty. He, if a brahmana is bluffing people, that "I am brahmana," but he is acting as a sudra, immediately ksatriya should point out and offer him fight, "Why you are cheating people? Why you are cheating people
- That is real Vedic culture, how to create brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra, brahmacari, grhastha, vanaprastha, sannyasa - eight. This is called varnasrama-dharma
- That is the real sudra. They are satisfied simply by eating, that's all. No ambition
- That is why (because there is not a class of learned, truthful, & honest men (brahmana) in the society) people are perplexed. Today almost everyone is trained to be a sudra, a laborer: "Go to the factory." That's all. - Go to the factory and get money
- The administration is under the sudra side. How they can manage? So they must be trained, as in business we give training
- The aim of the varnasrama divisions - brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra, brahmacarya, grhastha, vanaprastha and sannyasa - is to train one to control the senses and be content with the bare necessities
- The allurement of material civilization is so strong and so bad that those who are by pious activities born in brahmana family, they are being dragged to the tamo-guna behavior like sudras. They are learning how to drink, how to eat meat, etc
- The American boys, who have simply been trained as sudras, are not at all fit to fight in battle. Therefore, when they are called to join the military, they refuse because they do not have ksatriya spirit
- The Bhagavad-gita mentions striyo vaisyas tatha sudrah (BG 9.32), and the Srimad-Bhagavatam speaks of stri-sudra-dvija-bandhunam (SB 1.4.25). According to these references women, sudras, and dvija-bandhus are considered to belong to the same category
- The brahmana accepts all kinds of contributions (pratigraha) from his followers - namely, the ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras. But he does not keep all the money. He keeps only as much as required and gives the balance to others in charity - dana
- The brahmana class or intelligent class is working in one way, the ksatriya or administrative class is working in another way, and the mercantile class and the laborers are all tending to their specific duties. BG 1972 Introduction
- The brahmana family is rich in knowledge, and the ksatriyas and the vaisyas, they are rich in opulence, wealth, material riches. And sudras, they are not rich either in material wealth or in knowledge
- The brahmana is supposed to be the spiritual master of the other three varnas, namely ksatriya, vaisya and sudra, and the sannyasi is supposed to be the spiritual master even of the exalted brahmanas
- The brahmana must do his duty properly, and the ksatriya, the vaisya and even the sudra must do the same. And every one of them can achieve the highest perfection of life-liberation from this material bondage
- The brahmana will not be required to fight. A brahmana will not be required to work like sudra. A brahmana will not be required to work like vaisya. Therefore brahmana can beg
- The brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra can elevate themselves by worshiping the Lord according to their activities
- The brahmanas (intelligentsia) emanate from the face (of God), the ksatriyas (warriors and administrators) emanate from the arms, the vaisyas (farmers and merchants) emanate from the thighs, and the sudras (laborers) emanate from the feet
- The brahmanas (the intelligent men), the administrative men, the mercantile community and the laborer class must acquire special qualities in terms of occupational duties mentioned in all the Vedic scripture
- The brahmanas are born from the mouth of the universal form of the Lord, the ksatriyas are born out of the arms, the vaisyas out of the waist, and the sudras out of the legs. As such, they are qualified in the different modes of material nature
- The brahmanas represent His mouth, the ksatriyas His arms, the vaisyas His thighs, and the sudras are born of His legs
- The brahmanas thought, "We can see that this sannyasi has a luster like the effulgence of Brahman, but how is it He is crying upon embracing a sudra, a member of the fourth caste in the social order"
- The brahmanas were given all the necessities of life by the ksatriyas and vaisyas because they had no time to spend making a living. The ksatriyas would collect taxes from the vaisyas and sudras, but the brahmanas were exempt from paying income tax
- The brahmanas, ksatriyas, sudras and vaisyas must execute their prescribed duties as these duties are stated in the sastras. In this way everyone can satisfy the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Visnu
- The brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras used to live cooperatively, performing their respective duties. Consequently society was peaceful, and people were able to discharge the duties of Krsna consciousness
- The brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras, along with the brahmacaris, grhasthas, vanaprasthas and sannyasis, are the members of the eight divisions of varnas and asramas
- The brahmanas, the ksatriya, the vaisyas, they are independent. The sudras are compared with the dogs because they cannot live without a master
- The brahmanas, the ksatriyas, the vaisyas, the sudras, the brahmacari, the grhastha, the vanaprastha, and the sannyasi - this is called varnasrama. This is the form of human civilization
- The brahmanas, the members of the most elevated varna, are teachers, but a person in a lower family, such as a family of ksatriyas, vaisyas or even sudras, may be accepted as a teacher if he has knowledge
- The brahminical or intelligent men have to execute the duty of the head, the ksatriyas must fulfill the duty of the arms, the vaisya class must fulfill the duty of the belly, and the sudras must fulfill the duty of the legs
- The bull was as white as a white lotus flower. He was terrified of the sudra who was beating him, and he was so afraid that he was standing on one leg, trembling and urinating
- The caste system is universally applicable in terms of one's mundane, practical qualifications and personality traits. The classification of brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya or sudra is never made with reference to one's accidental birth
- The citizens were trained according to the varnasrama system. A class of men were brahmanas, a class of men were ksatriyas, a class were vaisyas, and a class were sudras. Without this scientific division, there can be no question of good citizenship
- The classification of brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya or sudra is never made with reference to 1's accidental birth - any more than someone could become a medical practitioner by some mere birthright, simply because he happened to be the son of a noted doctor
- The classification of society into brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras is very scientific
- The conclusion is that Vidura was never a sudra, but was greater than the purest type of brahmana
- The cow stands with tears in her eyes, the sudra milkman draws milk from the cow artificially, and when there is no milk the cow is sent to be slaughtered. These greatly sinful acts are responsible for all the troubles in present society
- The demigods and demons then observed a fast. After bathing, they offered clarified butter and oblations into the fire and gave charity to the cows and to the brahmanas and members of the other orders of society, namely the ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras
- The devotee should try to see all living entities on the same equal level of spiritual existence. As stated in Bhagavad-gita, a pandita, one who is learned, sees equally a very learned brahmana, a sudra, a hog, a dog and a cow
- The difficulty is there is no brahmana, there is no ksatriya. There are only the vaisyas and the sudras, belly, vaisya means belly and sudra means the leg. So if, out of the four divisions, one is wanting, the society must be in chaotic condition
- The divisions of brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra are natural divisions within society. Indeed, everyone has a prescribed duty according to the varnasrama-dharma
- The divisions of society - brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra, brahmacarya, grhastha, vanaprastha and sannyasa - are all meant to satisfy the Supreme Lord, Visnu. To act according to this principle of the varnasrama institution is called varnasramacarana
- The divisions of the orders of human society, namely the brahmanas (the intelligent class), the ksatriyas (the administrators), the vaisyas (the mercantile community) and the sudras (the laborer class), are all included in the body of the Supreme
- The dvija-bandhus are classified with the sudras and the woman class, who are by nature less intelligent. The sudras and the woman class do not have to undergo any samskara save and except the ceremony of marriage
- The exact word used in this connection is brahma-vidam, which means those who know the Supreme very well. An expert brahmana is able to give reformatory facilities to the subcastes - the ksatriyas and vaisyas. Sudras observe no reformatory performances
- The executive heads are fools and rascals in the strict sense of the terms, and the people in general are sudras
- The first answer is that even though it is accepted that he (Vidura) was a sudra by birth, he renounced the world for spiritual enlightenment by the authority of Rsi Maitreya
- The first recommendation is sva-dharmacaranam. As long as we have this material body there are various duties prescribed for us. Such duties are divided by a system of four social orders: brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra
- The first-class faithful men are the Vaisnavas and the brahmanas, then the ksatriyas, then the vaisyas, then the sudras, then the mlecchas, the yavanas and at last the candalas
- The first-class human being, ideal human being, is the brahmana. And the second class, the ksatriya; the third class, vaisya; and fourth class, sudra
- The first-class position (brahmana) is one who is aware of the Absolute Truth, he is in the goodness. Less awareness is the ksatriya, or in the modes of passion. Less awareness is the vaisyas. And the sudra, they are in in the darkness, unawareness
- The followers of the varnasrama institution accept the regulative principles of the four social orders (brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra) and four spiritual orders (brahmacarya, grhastha, vanaprastha and sannyasa)
- The four castes (the brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras) are created by the Supreme Personality of Godhead according to the material modes of nature and the particular duties discharged in those modes
- The four divisions of human society, namely the intelligent class (the brahmanas), the administrative class (the ksatriyas), the mercantile class (the vaisyas), and the laborer class (the sudras), are all in different parts of the body of the Lord
- The four divisions of the social order - brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra - should be arranged according to the guna and karma of this life. This version is confirmed in Srimad-Bhagavatam by Narada Muni
- The four orders of the social system - namely brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra - are arranged according to guna and karma, their qualities and work
- The four principal divisions of society - brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra - have been defined, and now there is a description of the antyaja, the mixed classes. Among the mixed classes, there are two divisions - pratilomaja and anulomaja
- The four sections of human society, namely brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras, are meant to live peacefully in a cooperative mood; this is possible when they are guided by expert Vedic brahmanas who perform sacrifices and distribute wealth equally
- The four social orders - generally known as the "caste system" and consisting of the brahmanas (priests), the ksatriyas (administrators), the vaisyas (merchants and farmers), and the sudras (laborers) - were never meant for a caste system by birthright
- The four social orders - the brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras - are natural divisions of human society, and as declared by Prthu Maharaja, every man in his respective social order must have proper employment for his livelihood
- The four statuses and orders of human society - brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras, as well as brahmacaris, grhasthas, vanaprasthas and sannyasis - are all divisions of quality, education, culture and spiritual advancement
- The four varnas, the brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra. And four asramas-brahmacari, grhastha, vanaprastha, sannyasa. Combined together it is called varnasrama
- The fourth-class men, they are called sudras. That means they have no other ambition than to fill up their belly only. That's all
- The general mass of people, although sudras and less, can be purified by chanting this Hare Krsna mantra. Then they can understand the exalted philosophical statements of Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam
- The government is a democracy in which any sudra can be voted into taking up the governmental reigns and capture the power to rule
- The government, it doesn't care whether you are acting as a brahmana, sudra, or whatever nonsense you are doing. Doesn't care. "You pay me tax, that's all." Bring your tax, income tax, and everything, then you are free, whatever you are doing
- The higher castes should always look after the maintenance of the sudras, and they should provide them with old and used garments
- The higher castes, namely the brahmanas, ksatriyas and vaisyas, observed only twenty-one days as a quarantine (for the mother, after the birth of the child), whereas the sudras had to observe thirty days
- The history of Vidura is that he was born of a sudra mother, but his seminal father was Vyasadeva; thus he was not less than Vyasadeva in any respect
- The human life is only meant for tattva-jijnasa, to understand the Absolute Truth. That requires brahminical culture, not the dull brain of sudras and candalas. They cannot understand
- The human society must be divided into four classes of divisions, or division, catur-varnya: the brahmana, the ksatriya, the vaisya and the sudra
- The human society must be divided into four classes: brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra. The Lord says. That is bhagavata-dharma. If you abolish this, everyone is sudra, no brahmana
- The inhabitants of the island of Kusadvipa are celebrated as the Kusalas, Kovidas, Abhiyuktas and Kulakas. They are like the brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras respectively. By bathing in the waters of those rivers, they all become purified
- The inhabitants of those islands are also divided into four castes - Rtavrata, Satyavrata, Danavrata and Anuvrata - which exactly resemble brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra. They practice pranayama and mystic yoga
- The intelligent class, the administrative class, the productive class and the laborer class are the four divisions of occupation
- The Krishna Consciousness movement is meant for re-establishing the system of four varnas and asramas, then there will be progress of civilization. We have got such a nice process that even from the base sudras we can create brahmanas of highest calibre
- The Krsna consciousness movement is creating pure, exalted Vaisnavas even from those born in families considered lower than those of sudras. This is proof that a Vaisnava may appear in any family, as confirmed in Srimad-Bhagavatam
- The Krsna consciousness movement is so nice that there is no need of even designating oneself brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra, brahmacari, grhastha, vanaprastha or sannyasi
- The ksatriya, they'll have to observe three asramas: brahmacari, grhastha and vanaprastha. And the vaisyas, two asramas: brahmacari and grhastha. And sudra, only one asrama, only grhastha. A sudra is never offered sannyasa. A... Only the brahmana
- The ksatriyas (military men and administrators), the vaisyas (farmers and businessmen), and finally the sudras (ordinary laborers). One's place in this system is determined by one's qualities and work - guna-karma
- The ksatriyas and the government should be advised by the brahmanas. The vaisyas should produce enough foodstuffs, and the sudras should serve the three higher classes (the brahmanas, ksatriyas and vaisyas). This is the arrangement of SPG
- The ksatriyas are said to be created from His arms (of Virat-Purusa), the vaisyas are created from His waist, and the sudras are created from His legs
- The Ksatriyas, the Vaisyas and the Sudras would follow the instruction of the cultured Brahmin. Such ways of approaching the Truth is always simple, plain and perhaps the most perfect
- The ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras eat only by virtue of the brahmana's mercy; in other words, they should not eat anything which is forbidden by the brahmanas
- The ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras eat their food by virtue of the brahmanas' mercy. It is the brahmanas who enjoy their own property, clothe themselves with their own property and give charity with their own property
- The ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras should eat only krsna-prasada, which is afforded them by the mercy of the brahmanas
- The laborer class, who are neither intelligent nor powerful, can help by physical services to the other higher classes and thus be benefited by their cooperation
- The laborer class... In India, of course, we have got this distinction. They are not satisfied for, with this white rice. They want coarse grain for satisfaction. While gentleman class, they cannot eat coarse grain. They want finer grain
- The laborer, the worker in the factory, all of them are sudras, and the capitalist of the industry they are vaisyas, so the whole population is now composed of vaisyas and sudras, which means the quality of passion and ignorance is now prominent
- The less intelligent classes of men, namely women, sudras and unqualified sons of the higher castes, are devoid of necessary qualifications to understand the purpose of the transcendental Vedas. For them the Mahabharata was prepared
- The less intelligent than brahmanas, the ksatriyas, the vaisyas, the sudras, they would need the brahmanas for health and future. Everyone is very inquisitive to learn what is future, what is going to happen next, and everyone is concerned with the health
- The Lord creates the social divisions of human society - brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras - and ordains that they follow rules and regulations suited to their particular position
- The Lord declares in Sri Bhagavad-gita (BG 9.32): O son of Prtha, those who take shelter in Me, though they be of lower birth - women, vaisyas (merchants), and sudras (workers) - can attain the supreme destination
- The Lord never suggests anything impractical. In this material world, in order to maintain the body one has to work. Human society is divided, according to work, into 4 divisions of social order - brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra. BG 1972 Introduction
- The lowest of men, who are called candalas, are less than sudras, but they also can be purified simply by hearing the holy name of the Lord, not to speak of personally seeing the Lord
- The master says: "I will give you some money," they will vote. Or in other words, kalau sudra sambhava. Sudra means servant. The dog is faithful servant; that is his only qualification
- The meat-eaters, they are everywhere, all over the world, but in India meat-eating is allowed - the fifth class, fifth grade community, they eat these cows when it is dead. And the sudra class, they also eat meat restrictively, goats
- The members of the varnas, or social orders-brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra-must be ascertained by their symptoms, not by birth. Birth is immaterial; quality is essential
- The men have begun to protest against brahma-bandhus who are born in families of good brahmanas but by action are less than sudras
- The mercantile men, called the vaisyas, are situated in the mixed modes of passion and ignorance, and the sudras, or laborer class, are situated in the ignorant mode of material nature. BG 1972 purports
- The muni (Manduka Muni) thought it unwise on the part of Yamaraja that he was punished for his childish innocence, and thus the muni cursed Yamaraja to become a sudra
- The next symptom of the age of Kali is that principles of religion, which are all spotlessly white, like the white lotus flower, will be attacked by the uncultured sudra population of the age
- The number of sudras are always bigger. Just like in university education, the . . . the number of graduates and postgraduates, they're less. Others are big, number bigger
- The occupational duty of a brahmana should not be accepted by persons in lower social orders, especially vaisyas and sudras
- The oceans and seas are meant for producing jewels, but in Kali-yuga the oceans are mainly being utilized for fishing. Sudras and poor men were allowed to fish, but the higher classes like the ksatriyas and vaisyas would gather pearls, jewels and coral
- The once-born scions of brahmana families are equal with the once-born sudras, and such brahma-bandhus, or unqualified once-born scions, must be rejected for any purpose of religious or Vedic function
- The only qualification (for devotional service) is that whether one is a brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya or sudra, he must be open, frank and free from reservations
- The other palanquin carriers were sudras, whereas Jada Bharata was not only a high-caste brahmana but also a great devotee. Sudras do not sympathize with other living beings, but a Vaisnava cannot act like a sudra
- The present age of Kali is full of ignorant men. Even those who are born by a brahmana father are, in the present age, no better than the sudras or the women
- The president is selected by the votes of ignorant sudras; therefore another sudra is elected, and immediately the entire government becomes polluted
- The principal sign of the age of Kali is that lower-caste sudras, i.e., men without brahminical culture and spiritual initiation, will be dressed like administrators or kings
- The problems of modern human society are due to the lack of qualified brahmanas and ksatriyas and the overinfluence of the vaisyas and sudras by so-called general franchise
- The Puranas are also supplementary to the Vedas. The Vedic mantras are too difficult for an ordinary man. Women, sudras and the so-called twice-born higher castes are unable to penetrate into the sense of the Vedas
- The Ramananda Raya, he was a sudra. According to social position, he was a sudra. But Caitanya Mahaprabhu took lessons from him
- The real aim is: how to become Krsna conscious. Brahmana is guiding, ksatriya is ruling, vaisya is producing food, and sudra, they have no brain; they are helping. In this way the society is very peaceful, and everyone is advanced in Krsna consciousness
- The real aim of samskaras is to bring a rascal to the platform of knowledge. Janmana jayate sudrah: by birth, everyone is the same - sudra. In other words, one is without any knowledge
- The rsis in those days, however, could not even imagine that in the advanced days of the age of Kali the lowest of the sudras will be elected as administrators and will open organized slaughterhouses for killing cows
- The rules and regulations set up for the execution of the duties of brāhmaṇas, kṣatriyas, vaiśyas and śūdras or brahmacārīs, gṛhasthas, vānaprasthas and sannyāsīs are all meant to satisfy the Supreme Lord
- The rules of Vedic culture in this regard are strictly observed in the respectable families of brahmanas, ksatriyas and vaisyas even today; only the sudras are degraded in this matter
- The sankirtana movement is important, for regardless of whether one is a sudra, vaisya, mleccha, yavana or whatever, if one associates with a pure devotee, follows his instructions and serves the pure devotee, his life is successful. This is bhakti
- The shameless husbands of lowborn sudra women live exactly like animals, and therefore they have no good behavior, cleanliness or regulated life
- The so called democratic government means some of the sudras, rascals without any knowledge of the highest aim of life. By hook and crook they get some votes and get the responsible chair in government. Naturally they can whimsically enact any law
- The so-called brāhmaṇas, kṣatriyas and vaiśyas have forgotten their traditional activities, and in the absence of these activities they are called śūdras
- The so-called democracy is no good. Because democracy means by votes. So the votes are given by the rascal sudras. So what is the meaning of electing somebody if the vote-givers are also rascal and fool, and the vote-taker is a big food, big rascal
- The so-called scientists, philosophers, they're all sudras because they say, "We have discovered something," and after few years, "Oh, it is now useless. Another theory." Sudra
- The social classes can be further characterized as follows: (4) He who has no special knowledge but is satisfied by serving the other three classes (namely brahmanas, ksatriyas and vaisyas) is called a sudra
- The social division is brahmana first, then ksatriya, then vaisya, then sudra. And there is a spiritual division: brahmacari, grhastha, vanaprastha, sannyasa. This is compulsory regulation for becoming human being
- The social orders consist of brahmanas (intellectuals), ksatriyas (administrators), vaisyas (merchants and farmers) and sudras (ordinary workers)
- The society must be divided - brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra - and they must execute their proper duty. In this way there will be nice management
- The society must be divided. There is division already, natural. We have to simply pick up, that - This boy is Brahmana, this boy is Ksatriya, this boy is Vaisya and this boy is Sudra
- The society of varnasrama-dharma - composed of brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas, sudras, grhasthas, vanaprasthas, brahmacaris and sannyasis - is meant to elevate people gradually to the perfect stage of understanding God
- The society was divided into brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras, and the members of this society would limit their endeavors to meeting their minimum demands. The brahmanas, in particular, would have no material desires
- The son of Tribandhana was Satyavrata, who is celebrated by the name Trisanku. Because he kidnapped the daughter of a brahmana when she was being married, his father cursed him to become a candala, lower than a sudra
- The spiritual orders are divided into four asramas-brahmacarya, grhastha, vanaprastha and sannyasa - and the social orders, according to work and qualification, are made up of the brahmanas, the ksatriyas, the vaisyas and the sudras
- The Sudarsana cakra does not discriminate between brahmana demons and sudra demons. Anyone against the Supreme Personality of Godhead and His devotees is called a demon
- The sudra class can attain all comforts of life simply by rendering service to the higher classes
- The sudra class is less intelligent and should have no independence. They are meant for rendering sincere service to the three higher sections of the society
- The sudra has no initiation. So in India there are professional gurus. They initiate sudras, but do not eat foodstuff touched by the disciple
- The sudra incarnation of Yamaraja was known as Vidura, the sudra brother of Dhrtarastra and Maharaja Pandu
- The sudra, his arm decorated with turmeric powder, was embracing the prostitute. When Ajamila saw her, the dormant lusty desires in his heart awakened, and in illusion he fell under their control
- The sudras are sometimes called black, or krsna. The brahmanas are called sukla, or white, and the ksatriyas and the vaisyas are a mixture of black and white
- The sudras are the common laborer class. In a properly run society, all of these classes (brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas, sudras) are required. If they cooperate in their progress toward Krsna consciousness, there is no strife amongst them
- The sudras are the lowest social order, inasmuch as they imbibe the modes of darkness, or ignorance, and generally take up the service of the other three social orders. As a class, the sudras are servitors of the whole mundane social body
- The sudras cannot learn all these Veda. Because sudras have no right to understand Vedic knowledge. It is meant for the brahmanas, ksatriyas. Even not for the vaisyas
- The sudras means the lowest class of men, who have no culture. But the higher classes, the brahmins, the ksatriyas, they are considered highly cultured. And how they are called highly cultured? Because they are twice-born
- The sudras must first of all be satisfied by sumptuous food and clothing before any sacrifice is performed
- The sudras were also happy, for they would get food and shelter from the three higher classes
- The sudras were walking with the palanquin without at all caring for the ants on the ground, but Jada Bharata could not act like a sudra, and therefore difficulty arose
- The sudras, the unintelligent class of men who cannot act independently in any of the above-mentioned activities, are meant for serving the three higher classes for their livelihood
- The sudras, they are busy fools. Therefore they are to be guided. They are to be guided. If there are, hundred workers are there, then one leader must be there to give the direction
- The sudras, they can take a goat and sacrifice before the deity, goddess Kali, and then eat. Nobody should be given unrestricted freedom to eat meat. Or wine. If one is adamant to drink wine, then there is Candi-puja, Durga-puja. That means restriction
- The sudras, they have to qualify themselves in one, that’s all. What is that one? Simply to serve the master faithfully. That’s all. Paricaryatmakam karma sudrasyapi svabhava-jam
- The sudras, who are outside of Vedic knowledge, come from His feet. May that Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is full in prowess, be pleased with us
- The sudras, who cannot work as either brahmanas, ksatriyas or vaisyas, should give service to the higher classes of society and be provided by them with a supply of the necessities of life
- The Supreme Lord is always worshipable, regardless of whether one is a brahmana, a ksatriya or a sudra. As the representative of the Supreme Lord, the King deserved respectful obeisances from everyone
- The Supreme Personality of Godhead says in Bhagavad-gita (BG 9.32): "O son of Prtha, those who take shelter in Me (Krsna), though they be of lower birth - women, vaisyas (merchants), as well as sudras (workers) - can approach the supreme destination
- The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krsna, says in Bhagavad-gita (BG 4.13), catur-varnyam maya srstam guna-karma-vibhagasah: the four varnas-brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra - must be present in society
- The swans (in the forest of material existence) are the perfect brahmanas, and the monkeys are the extravagant sudras engaged in eating, sleeping, mating and defending
- The untrained descendants of the twice-born families are no more like their forefathers, and thus they are counted amongst the sudras, or once-born men
- The Vaisnava devotee may offer formal respects to such a materially puffed-up person, but he may not deliver transcendental knowledge to him. Indeed, the devotee sees him as a non-brahmana or sudra
- The vaisya class or mercantile community, who produce such goods, may offer them for sacrifice; and the sudra class may offer their manual labor for the successful termination of such sacrifice
- The vaisyas and sudras do not clearly understand God consciousness, but if they take to KC by the mercy of Krsna and the spiritual master, they do not remain in the lower castes (papa-yonayah). It is clearly stated: te ’pi yanti param gatim
- The vaisyas and sudras were unimportant elements in society, and they are not mentioned herein (SB 1.9.41). Due to the change of social activities in the modern age, the importance of men has also changed in terms of occupational positions
- The vaisyas and the sudras are less important than the ksatriyas. Karna was known as the son of a carpenter, a sudra. So Draupadi avoided Karna by this plea
- The vaisyas were also encouraged by kind words and affectionate dealings, and due to Maharaja Gaya's constant sacrifices, the sudras were satisfied by sumptuous food and charity. In this way Maharaja Gaya kept all the citizens very satisfied
- The vaisyas, or the mercantile class of men, trade in commodities, protect cows and develop agricultural produce. The sudras, or laborer class, serve the higher classes because they themselves are not very intelligent
- The varnasrama society is organized into eight divisions: brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra, brahmacarya, grhastha, vanaprastha and sannyasa. Nanda Maharaja represented himself as grhinam, a householder
- The varnasrama system delineates the divisions of brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra. It also sets forth the system of samskaras
- The varnasrama system has four social and four spiritual divisions. the social divisions are the brahmanas - teachers and priests, ksatriyas - administrators and military men, vaisyas - farmers and merchants, and sudras - laborers and craftsmen
- The varnasrama-dharma, that is beginning of human civilization. So in this age they have already given up. There is no varnasrama. In India it is simply in name. Actually, there is no varnasrama. The, most of the people, they are sudras
- The Vedas enjoin that if a man has the propensity to enjoy more than one wife, as is sometimes the propensity for men in the higher varnas, such as the brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas & even sometimes the sudras - he is allowed to marry more than one wife
- The Vedic conception is that the human society should be divided into four divisions, namely the brahmin, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra, natural division
- The Vedic culture means four varnas and four asramas: brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra; brahmacari, grhastha, vanaprastha and sannyasa. Unless we take to this institution of varnasrama dharma, the whole society will be in chaotic condition
- The Vedic injunction is divided that one class should be brahmana, one class should be ksatriya, one class should be vaisya, another should be sudra. In this way they should cooperate for the ultimate benefit of life
- The Vedic mantras are too difficult for an ordinary man. Women, sudras and the so-called twice-born higher castes are unable to penetrate into the sense of the Vedas
- The Vedic social situation is so planned that persons accepted as sudras can gradually be elevated to the position of brahmanas by the cultural advancement known as samskara, or the purificatory process
- The verdict of the Vedic scriptures is that no one becomes a brahmana or a mleccha simply by birth; by birth everyone is accepted as a sudra. One has to elevate himself by the purificatory process to the stage of brahminical life
- The virat-purusa's face is the brahmanas, His arms are the ksatriyas, His thighs are the vaisyas, and the sudras are under the protection of His feet
- The vocational divisions are the brahmanas, or the intelligent class, the ksatriyas, or administrative class, the vaisyas, or mercantile productive class, and the sudras, or general laborer class who have no specific qualifications
- The whole is the Supreme Personality of Godhead in His virat-rupa, or universal form. The brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras are respectively the mouth, arms, abdomen and legs of the universal form of the Lord
- The whole system of society was so well planned that all the members of society in their different positions as brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras had no difficulty in earning their livelihood. There was no competition among the divisions of society
- The word bhilla refers (in CC Madhya 17.53) to a class of men belonging to the Bheels. The Bheels are like Black Africans, and they are lower than sudras. Such people generally live in the jungle, and Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu had to meet them
- The word dharma-pratipaksah ("opponents of religious principles") refers not to a particular faith, but to varnasrama-dharma, the division of society, socially and spiritually, into four varnas (brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra) and four asramas
- The word kama-liptena (in SB 6.1.61) indicates that the sudra was decorated with turmeric smeared on his body
- The word papa-yoni refers to those who are less than sudras, but even though a woman may not be papa-yoni, because of being less intelligent she sometimes forgets devotional instructions
- The word sva-dharmam indicates that the system of varnasrama - which indicates the occupational duties of the brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra and which is the perfect institution for humanity - must be supported by bhakti-yoga
- The words sthane sthitah mean "remaining in the varnasrama-dharma." Even a sudra can understand what is Brahman, and in that case he becomes a brahmana automatically. It is necessary that one hear attentively. That is all
- The worker is still working. They are going, still walking on the street to go to the factory. So in this way the whole civilization is going on simply by bluffing. And because men are made sudra class, they are believing
- There are clear instructions in Mahabharata and Srimad-Bhagavatam (SB 7.11.32) stating that a person - be he brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya or sudra - should be accepted by his personal qualifications and not by birth
- There are different names by which to address the members of different castes. The brahmanas are addressed as maharaja, the ksatriyas as thakura, the vaisyas as setha or mahajana, and the sudras as caudhuri
- There are eight divisions of human society created to facilitate the execution of duty: the brahmanas, or intellectuals; the ksatriyas, or administrators; the vaisyas, or businessmen and farmers; and the sudras, or laborers
- There are four varnas (brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra) and four asramas (brahmacarya, grhastha, vanaprastha and sannyasa). These varnas and asramas have their respective duties
- There are four varnas, namely, the brahmanas (priests and intellectuals), the ksatriyas (warriors and statesmen), the vaisyas (businessmen and farmers) and the sudras (laborers and servants)
- There are many instances in which candalas, or those lower than sudras, have served Krsna. Also, the sage Vidura was considered a sudra because his mother happened to be sudra
- There are prescribed duties for everyone, such as the brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra, but anyone who deviates from his prescribed duty and declares another's duty to be his own is following a foul and improper duty
- There are prescribed duties for the different social classes of men - the brahmanas, the vaisyas, the ksatriyas and the sudras - and for the different asramas - brahmacarya, grhastha, vanaprastha and sannyasa
- There are some few vaisyas and sudras. So therefore there is chaos all over the world. So this Krsna consciousness movement is meant for creating some real brahmana
- There is a ceremony which is called garbadhana-samskara, and it is stated in the sastras that if the higher castes do not perform the garbadhana-samskara and beget children like cats and dog, then he immediately comes to the position of sudra
- There is always the chance that he may be put into the Puyoda Naraka, the hell named Puyoda, where one is forced to eat stool, urine, pus, mucus, saliva and other abominable things. It is significant that this verse (SB 5.26.23) is spoken about sudras
- There is another class who are neither intelligent nor martially spirited nor endowed with the capacity for economic development but who simply can serve others. They are called sudras, or the laborer class
- There is more evidence in Padma Purana, in the Kasikhanda portion, where it is said, "In the country known as Mayuradhvaja, the lower caste people who are considered less than sudras are also initiated in the Vaisnava cult of devotional service"
- There is necessity of creating brahmanas and Vaisnava. This movement is meant for that purpose. So be careful. Don't be turned again to sudra and mlecchas. Go on making progress to become pure Vaisnava
- There is no ideal men now, at the present moment. Everyone is sudra. Kalau sudra-sambhavah. Then how the society will be happy? It is not possible, because there is no ideal men
- There is no question of a devotee becoming a sudra if he does certain work
- There is no question of a devotee becoming a sudra if he does certain work. No, a devotee is never a sudra. He is transcendental. Because their activity is done in transcendental loving service unto the Lord, it is all on the transcendental plane
- There is no, I mean to say "barricade" to enlighten woman. Everyone can be enlightened. Everyone has got the light. But ordinarily the sudra and the vaisyas, they are not to be considered very intelligent
- There must be an institution to educate a brahmana, to educate ksatriya. That is required. Catur-varnyam maya srstam. If you don't do it, if you simply produce sudras, bolt-nut manufacturers, technicians, then how you can be happy
- There must be classification. Not that everyone is the same, everyone on the same level. Everyone on the same level means sudra, no knowledge. No knowledge, no philosophy, no culture, simply eat, sleep and . . . animals' life
- There must be intelligent class of men, there must be martial spirit, administrative class of men, there must be business minded men. There must be sudras, they do not know anything, they want to serve only, master
- There must be the administrative and protective class, the farming and mercantile class, and the laboring class. This is all given in the Bhagavad-gita: brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra
- These 4 divisions (brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas & sudras) of men in human society are natural, not artificial, because in the material world everything is operating under the influence of the 3 modes of material nature - goodness, passion & ignorance
- These are four divisions: brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra. Sudra means laborer class, but they are also obedient to the other three classes. And less than that, they have been described as candalas, pancamas, or untouchable as you say
- These divisions are required. Mukha means brahmana, bahu means ksatriya, and uru means the vaisya, and pada means sudra. The body can be maintained when four things are properly maintained
- These four classes of men (brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra) are already there according to nature, but it is the government's duty to see that all four of these classes follow the principles of their varnas methodically
- These proud mlecchas (persons who are less than sudras), representing themselves as kings, will tyrannize their subjects, and their subjects, on the other hand, will cultivate the most vicious practices
- These rascals, they have no knowledge how to train as brahmin, how to train as ksatriya, how to train as vaisya. Just like, of course, in other field of action, in the sudras and vaisyas, there is nice training in your country
- These social orders (brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra), according to the different grades of work and qualification, are described in Bhagavad-gita
- They (brahmanas and other high-order families of the present age) are called the dvija-bandhus, or the friends and family members of the twice-born. But these dvija-bandhus are classified amongst the sudras and the women
- They (dvija-bandhu, or the less intelligent) argue that birth in a family of sudras or less than sudras is made possible by one's previous sinful acts and that one therefore has to complete the terms of disadvantages due to lower birth
- They (fools) create instead their own interpretations, which are as foolish as they themselves, and thereby only help to put a stumbling block on the path of real understanding, misdirecting the innocent followers who are less intelligent, or the sudras
- They (ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras) cannot open slaughterhouses and eat meat, fish or eggs or drink liquor, or earn money for this purpose without authorization - from the brahmanas
- They (sudras) have no intelligence to become brahmin, neither to become ksatriya, administrator, or to occupy political powers; neither they have energy to become very rich businessmen or industrialists. Therefore they are called fourth-class men
- They (sudras) manufacture their own way of life, with the result that they gradually become unfortunate (manda-bhagyah), and furthermore they are always disturbed by various circumstances
- They (the brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras follower of Vedic system) were happy (due to discharge the duties of Krsna consciousness) in this life and able to return home, back to Godhead
- They (the Mayavadis) do not know that at present everyone is born a sudra
- They (the sudra-like population) will declare themselves as adherents of no religious principles, and many "isms" and cults will spring up in Kali-yuga only to kill the spotless bull of religion
- They (the sudras) should not be puffed up with unnecessary prestige or honor and should remain in their own status. It is the duty of the sudras to offer respect to the higher class for the upkeep of the social order. BG 1972 purports
- They are doing work less than a sudra, and still, they are passing on as brahmana. That is the cause of India's spiritual falldown
- They are sudras. They do not know how to spend money. And formerly, before this, people were little intelligent, or at least they had some religious faith. So they constructed temple, churches, mosque. Nowadays these things is stopped
- They cannot use money, simply for sense gratification. That is the sudra. And brahmana, ksatriya, especially ksatriya, as soon as they get money, they would make a big sacrifice to satisfy visnu-yajna
- They distinguish between American Vaisnava and Indian Vaisnava: brahmana Vaisnava, sudra Vaisnava. No. A Vaisnava is Vaisnava. Visnur asya devatah iti vaisnava. One who has accepted Visnu as "my Lord," he has no designation
- They have been put in one group: woman, vaisya and sudra, because they are not very intelligent. They can be molded by another intelligent man to the proper channel; therefore they require guidance
- They have been put in one group: woman, vaisya and sudra. Because they are not very intelligent. They can be molded by another intelligent man to the proper channel. Therefore they require guidance. They require guidance
- They may be descendants of brahmana or ksatriya forefathers, but in the age of Kali, for want of sufficient education and culture of Vedic wisdom, such a sudra-like population will defy the principles of religion
- They should not be proud that "I am brahmana." No. As you are required, as much, the sudra is also required. It is not that only the brahmanas are required
- This (accepting someone whose qualification is less than sudra as brahmana) has caused the downfall of the Vedic civilization
- This (character of sudra, brahmacari, grhastha, vanaprastha, sannyasa) must be systematically organized. That is called dharma. Because the real purpose is, dharmasya hy apavargyasya: just to nullify this miserable condition of material life
- This (divisions as brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras) is not an artificial imposition due to birth or social status but is according to guna, or the mode of nature under which one is operating
- This (schools and colleges to train students to become brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas, sudras, brahmacaris, grhasthas, vanaprasthas and sannyasis) will provide the preliminary condition for good citizenship - varnasrama-gunan-vitah
- This (the term sudra-mahajana) indicates that one who is born in a non-brahmana family has accepted the brahmana status by initiation. Such devotees extended invitations to Balabhadra Bhattacarya
- This brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra, the brahmacari, grhastha, vanaprastha, they are for mutual cooperation. They are different department, but they are for mutual cooperation
- This catur-varnyam maya srstam (BG 4.13), brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra . . . it doesn't matter one is sudra or one is brahmana, but everyone has got the facility to become connected in relationship with the Supreme Lord
- This eternal occupational duty (the mentality of service) can be organized through the institution of varnasrama, in which there are four varnas (brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra) and four asramas - brahmacarya, grhastha, vanaprastha and sannyasa
- This injunction (the qualifications of a spiritual master depend on his knowledge of the science of Krsna. It does not matter whether he is a brahmana, ksatriya, sannyasi or sudra) given by Caitanya is not at all against the injunctions of the sastras
- This instruction (of SB 7.15.66) is given for men in all statuses of life. Generally society is divided into brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas, sudras, brahmacaris, vanaprasthas, sannyasis and grhasthas
- This instruction by Krsna to the brahmana is very significant. The purport is that a true brahmana should not be disturbed in any situation. In this modern age, Kali-yuga, the so-called brahmanas have accepted the abominable position of sudras
- This instruction is meant for everyone - brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya or sudra. If anyone, from any division of life, surrenders to the Supreme Personality of Godhead and follows His instructions, his life will be successful
- This is a cause of great dissatisfaction in society. That the boys do not have the ksatriya spirit does not mean that they are trained in brahminical qualities; they are trained as sudras, and thus in frustration they are becoming hippies
- This is called variety, not nirvisesa-vada, classless: "No brahmana required, no sudra required." No, everything is required. Everything is required, but they should be properly trained up
- This is confirmed in Srimad-Bhagavatam when Narada speaks of the different symptoms characterizing the four divisions of social life. Narada summarizes that brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras should be selected by their individual qualifications
- This is human life, not that upstart, foolish, rascals, sudras, that is human society. That is dog society. That is not human society. Human society must be intelligent class of men. They will train the other people. Everything is required
- This is nonsense. How everyone can be military man? Because they are sending sudras to Vietnam they are unnaturally being killed. So any country who is very proud of scientific advancement, if he does not know how to organize society, he is a fool
- This is real human society (where people are divided as brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras) and without this system we are left with animal society
- This is the way of life, that by reformatory process recommended in the sastras one should be elevated to the position of brahmana, ksatriya, vaisyas and sudra
- This Krsna consciousness movement is trying to reestablish daiva-varnasrama, where brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra, everyone. Systematic. We are therefore proposing to start a college, varnasrama college
- This process of surrendering by following the instructions of the Supreme Personality of Godhead is not meant for any particular caste or creed. A brahmana can surrender, and so can a ksatriya, vaisya or sudra. Everyone can adopt this process
- This sudra son of the Kuru dynasty was equally treated by Bhismadeva, along with his other nephews, and in due course Vidura was married with a girl who was also born in the womb of a sudrani by a brahmana
- This system of brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras has now become vitiated as the present caste system in India, but it appears that this system has been current a very long time, since it is mentioned in Srimad-Bhagavatam and Bhagavad-gita
- This time Lord Caitanya stayed at the house of Candrasekhara, although he was regarded as a sudra or kayastha, for the Lord, as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, is completely independent
- This verse gives evidence confirming the statement of Bhagavad-gita that the orders of society - brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra - are calculated in terms of qualities and activities - guna-karma-vibhagasah - BG 4.13
- This was the system, that a ksatriya is presented with a kind of weapon, a brahmana is presented with Vedas, and so far vaisyas and sudras are concerned, they are not very important
- Those lower than them (brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas, sudras) are called candalas, and they are born in sinful families. BG 1972 purports
- Those persons who are busy with the mundane inquiries which fill the newspapers and other such literatures are classified as stri-sudra-dvija-bandhus, or women, the laborer class and unworthy sons of the higher classes - brahmana, ksatriya and vaisya
- Those who are completely in ignorance are called sudras. And those who are less than that are animals or animal life. However, these designations are not permanent
- Those who are completely in ignorance are called sudras. And those who are less than that are animals or animal life. However, these designations are not permanent. BG 1972 purports
- Those who are extraordinarily white are said to have skin produced out of white leprosy. It may be concluded that white or a golden hue is the color of the higher caste, and black is the complexion of the sudras
- Those who are fit for management and protection, they should be trained as ksatriya. And those who are fit for producing food, taking care of the cows, they should be trained as vaisya. And the balance, they're all sudras
- Those who are less educated, not very much expert in preaching, they must be acting as ksatriya or vaisya, or as sudra
- Those who are less than sudras, boil the rice, and with water, they keep it for few days, it becomes fermented, putrefied, and it becomes intoxicating, home-made liquor. And if you distill it, then it becomes first-class, brandy
- Those who are not sufficiently intelligent to be brahmanas, ksatriyas or vaisyas are required to serve a master and are called sudras. Thus everyone can engage in the service of the Lord and awaken his natural Krsna consciousness
- Those who are situated in the quality of ignorance, they are called sudras, or the laborer class
- Those who are sudras, they should not be allowed to take sannyasa. Only those who are qualified brahmanas, they'll be allowed to take sannyasa
- Those who have decided to serve Krsna only, they are no longer in the categories of sva-dharma, the bodily sva-dharma, brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra, or brahmacari, vanaprastha. He is transcendental. That is confirmed in every sastra
- To be a playboy in this life is unfortunate because too much attraction to women will lead one to fall into the association of sudras, who can easily take advantage of mingling with women without restriction
- To become dependent on another's maintenance is very degrading; therefore, according to the Vedic system, everyone should live independently. Only the sudras are unable to live independently. They are obliged to serve someone for maintenance
- To maintain the social order you have to train some of the sudras to become brahmins, some of the sudras to become ksatriyas. It cannot depend on the sudras. Then there will be chaos
- To organize the society, Krsna recommends, catur-varnyam maya srstam guna-karma-vibhagasah (BG 4.13). There must be ideal brahmana. There must be ideal ksatriya, ideal vaisya. And balance, all sudras
- To revive a fully cultured civilization, the scientific division of society into brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras must be introduced all over the world. Unless some people are trained as brahmanas, there cannot be peace in human society
- To serve under somebody, that is sudra. So at the present moment people are being educated to serve under somebody
- To spread KC, one need only be cognizant of the science of the spirit soul. It does not matter whether one is a brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra, sannyasi, grhastha or whatever. If one simply understands this science, he can become a spiritual master
- To the devotees he (Yamaraja) is a cordial friend, but to the nondevotees he is fear personified. It is understood that Yamaraja was cursed by Manduka Muni to be degraded as a sudra, and therefore Vidura was an incarnation of Yamaraja
- To understand Vedic literature one has to become a brahmana or a ksatriya. Even in vaisya stage or sudra stage no possible, not possible. Vaisya stage, little, but in brahmana stage and ksatriya stage people are intelligent
- To vanquish the false pride of so-called renunciants and learned scholars, He spreads real religious principles, even through a sudra, or lowborn, fourth-class man
- To vanquish the false pride of so-called renunciates and learned scholars, He spreads real religious principles, even through a sudra, or lowborn, fourth-class man
- Today there is great strife between the capitalist class and laborer class because between them there is no compromise. There is only friction
- Today they have no knowledge of how to train a brahmana, or how to train a ksatriya. In the other fields of action, in the work of sudras and vaisyas there is nice training
- Train them up to become devotees. How to play mrdanga, how to play karatalas, take prasadam, attend arati, etc. They'll never understand the books. They are less than sudras, candalas
U
- Unfortunately, as will be explained, he (Narada Muni) fell from his exalted position in Gandharvaloka, where the inhabitants are extremely beautiful and expert in singing, to become a sudra
- Unfortunately, the so-called government men, they are also sudras. The so-called priests, they are also sudras. The so-called vaisyas, they are sudras. The whole world is now full of sudras. So you cannot expect anything very nice
- Unless a brahmana is very pure, he cannot accept charity from others. Charity should be given to those who are pure. Even if one is born in a family of brahmanas, if one acts as a sudra one cannot accept charity, for this is strictly prohibited
- Unless one achieves at least the brahminical qualifications, one cannot understand the Vedic hymns. Mahabharata is also a division of the Vedas, but it is meant for women, sudras and dvija-bandhus, the worthless children of the higher section
- Unless one is qualified in terms of the brahminical symptoms, one cannot take sannyasa. In designating a person a brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya or sudra, birth is not the essential symptom. This understanding is very important
- Unless one is twice-born one cannot understand the transcendental characteristics of the Lord and His devotees. Study of the Vedas is therefore forbidden for sudras
- Unless there is such a division of the social orders in human society, including the intelligent class, the martial class, the mercantile class and the laborer class, there is always confusion as to who is to work for what purpose
V
- Vaisya who can actually give protection to the cows and produce agricultural products and trade. And sudras, ordinary laborer class. There must be divisions. They must be trained up
- Vaisyas should earn their livelihood through agriculture and cow protection, and sudras should maintain their livelihood by serving the three higher classes
- Vaisyas should produce and trade to meet all the needs of society, whereas sudras should render service to the higher sections of society - the brahmanas, ksatriyas and vaisyas
- Varna means four social division: Brahmin, Ksatriya, Vaisya, Sudra; and asrama means four spiritual division: brahmacari, grhastha, vanaprastha . . . so accepting these four spiritual and four material principles of life, that is humanity
- Varna, this classification of social order, brahmin, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra, and less than that, that is accepted by the symptoms, laksana, characteristics, not by birth
- Varnasrama college especially meant for the brahmana, ksatriya and vaisya. Those who are not fit for education, they are sudras. That's all. Or those who are reluctant to take education - sudra means. That's all. They should assist the higher class
- Varnasrama Institution arranges society in the varna divisions of brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya and sudra and the asrama divisions of brahmacarya, grhastha, vanaprastha and sannyasa. This is actual human civilization
- Vedas are not sometimes understood by three classes of men - stri-sudra-dvijabandhu, three classes of men: women . . . women and sudra and dvijabandhu. Dvijabandhu means the friends of the twice-born
- Vedas, they are meant for brahmanas, not for the sudras, not for the ksatriya. Ksatriya also, they, they are, but under the instruction of the brahmanas. So this is perfect civilization
- Vedic astrology reveals whether one has been born in the vipra-varna, ksatriya-varna, vaisya-varna or sudra-varna, according to the three qualities of material nature
- Vedic civilization is meant for training the whole people in such a way that they'll be engaged in the performance of yajna. So that either he acts as a sudra or either he acts as a brahmin, it doesn't matter. The real aim is to satisfy the Supreme
- Vedic civilization means when there is classified society begins: brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra, brahmacari, grhastha, vanaprastha, and sannyasa. And without this classification, the whole society will remain in chaotic condition
- Vedic language cannot be understood by the less intelligent class of men, who are known as woman, sudra and dvija-bandhu
- Vedic society is divided, ideal men: the brahmanas. Brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra. The brahmana, the saintly person, the sannyasi, the rajarsi, this is required
- Vedic system of civilization: brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra. There must be divisions of work. Not that everyone has to learn everything
- Vidura was not actually a sudra. He was to play the part of a so-called sudra for one hundred years, being cursed by Manduka Muni
- Vidura's mother, although a sudrani, was the grandmother of Duryodhana, and funny talks are sometimes allowed between grandmother and grandchildren
- Vidura, born in the womb of a sudra woman, was forbidden even to be a party of royal heritage along with his brothers Dhrtarastra and Pandu
W
- We are even more respectable because we are in the dynasty of Bhrgu. Yet although this woman's father, being among the demons, is our disciple, she has put on my dress, exactly like a sudra taking charge of Vedic knowledge
- We are talking of how to come to the vipra stage. The 1st stage, everyone is on the sudra platform. Then by purificatory process, by understanding of this Vedic knowledge, janmana jayate sudrah samskarad bhaved dvijah, that by initiation he is twice-born
- We cannot accept knowledge from sudras. Knowledge must be taken from a brahmin
- We have created these GBCs. So they should be very responsible men; otherwise, they will be punished. They will be punished to become a sudra
- We have got such a nice process that even from the base sudras we can create brahmanas of highest calibre
- We have no such conception that "I am Indian," "I am American," "I am brahmin" or "I am sudra," or "I am black," "I am white." We all are the same. We are eternal servant of Krsna, or God. That is our position
- We know from Srimad-Bhagavatam that Ajamila, an innocent son of a brahmana, was walking down a road and saw a sudra pair sexually embracing. This attracted the boy, and later on the boy became a victim of all debaucheries
- We need a class of men purely brahmanas. The whole world is full of sudras. The Krishna Consciousness movement is meant for re-establishing the system of four varnas and asramas, then there will be progress of civilization
- We offer them the sacred thread although they are born, according to Vedic culture, in the families of other than Brahmanas or even than the Sudras
- We shall elevate them to go back to home, back to Godhead. Whatever he may be. Simply by denying that "I am not sudra," that will not help. But they must be elevated to the standard of brahmana. That we will talk later on
- We should recruit any sort of men out of the four classes; brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra. For our members we do not make any discrimination
- What constitutes a normal condition will not be the same for everyone, and therefore there are divisions of varnasrama-brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra, brahmacarya, grhastha, vanaprastha and sannyasa
- What is the caste system? There is no caste system. Everyone is sudra. Who is a brahmana now, qualified, except one or two in our camp?
- What we are doing there. Everyone can do it. Everyone can . . . that is Vedic culture. And everywhere Visnu, Narayana-sila is worshiped. At least the higher caste, brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya - not the sudras
- When a person is born even in human society, he remains a sudra. Sudra means almost like animal. Now he has to be reformed. That is called samskara. Then twice-born
- When he attempted to exhibit his talent in that meeting, Draupadi's brother declared that Karna could not take part in the competition because of his being the son of a sudra carpenter
- When He returned again to Benares on His way from Mathura to Jagannatha Puri, He stayed at the house of Candrasekhara, who was considered a sudra because he was a clerk. In spite of this, Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu made His residence at his home
- When human society accepts varnasrama-dharma, it can gradually come to the understanding of Brahman. By birth, everyone is a sudra; therefore everyone has to be educated
- When Maharaja Pariksit was on his way to conquer the world, he saw the master of Kali-yuga, who was lower than a sudra, disguised as a king and hurting the legs of a cow and bull. The King at once caught hold of him to deal sufficient punishment
- When one is realized in that way that, "I am eternal servant of Krsna," he does not require to be a brahmin or sudra. He transcends. He is postgraduate. So long he does not realize that, he has to follow varnasrama-dharma. Otherwise, he is not civilized
- When one performs great sacrifices he must give charity, not only to the brahmanas, but also to the ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras. It is assured here (in SB 4.9.24) that Dhruva Maharaja would be able to perform such activities
- When the brahmanas and ksatriyas cooperate nicely, the other subordinate divisions, the vaisyas, or mercantile people, and the sudras, or laborer class, automatically flourish
- When the King (Yudhisthira) and the Queen finished their bath in the Ganges, all the other citizens, consisting of all the varnas, or castes - the brahmanas, ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras - took their baths in the Ganges
- When the quality and work is there, there is a brahmana. Otherwise even one is born in a brahmana family, we reject them. He is sudra; but he has no quality, he has no work. That is sastric injunction
- When the quality of ignorance is represented, that is the presentation of the sudras. And mixed-up quality of ignorance and passion, that is vaisya
- When the sudra went away, another guest arrived, surrounded by dogs, and said, "O King (Rantideva), I and my company of dogs are very hungry. Please give us something to eat"
- When the varnasrama system becomes degraded, it appears as a hereditary caste system, but in every society there is an intelligent class of men, a martial class, a mercantile class and a laborer class
- When there is no such training, one simply claims that because he is born in a brahmana or ksatriya family, he is therefore a brahmana or a ksatriya, even though he performs the duties of a sudra
- When we compare the laborer class of men with intellect, intellectual class of men, there is difference. But both of them are important factors to maintain this body. That is called varnasrama-dharma
- When we consult an engineer, a doctor or a lawyer, we do not ask whether he is a brahmana or a sudra. If he is qualified, he can help with a particular subject. Similarly, if one knows the science of Krsna, he can be a guru
- When we say sudra has no right to study Vedas, that means he will not be able to understand. Just like you became lawyer, but the condition is, unless you become graduate, unless you have graduated yourself, you cannot enter law court
- When we think in terms of Vedic civilization - the brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra - this is very scientific. Because a class of men, very intelligent, very pure, ideal class of men, brahmana, must be there. That is Vedic civilization
- When you engage yourself in Krsna consciousness, either you are a brahmana, ksatriya or vaisya or sudra, then you are transcendental immediately
- When you take your birth, that birth is not significant - a sudra, fourth-class man. Everyone is born fourth-class man. So if you keep them fourth class and degrade them into fifth class, sixth class, then how there will be peace
- Whenever a sudra and a brahmana Vaisnava are combined, there will certainly be imbalance in the execution of duties
- Where is the ideal class who will teach? And it is the business of brahmana to teach. Those who are sudras, avidyayam antare vartamana, how they can teach? They cannot teach
- Whether one is a brahmana, a sannyasi or a sudra, regardless of what he is, he can become a spiritual master if he knows the science of Krsna
- Whether one is a brahmana, a sannyasi or a sudra-regardless of what he is-he can become a spiritual master if he knows the science of Krsna
- Whether one is a brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra, American, Englishman, Indian, etc., one can execute devotional service anywhere and everywhere in the material existence simply by offering prayers unto the Supreme Personality of Godhead
- Whether one is a ksatriya, a vaisya, or a sudra doesn't matter, if he serves, by his work, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. BG 1972 purports
- Whether one is a woman, sudra or vaisya, not to speak of being a brahmana or ksatriya, everyone is fit to return home, back to Godhead, if he strictly follows the instructions of the spiritual master and sastra
- Who are less-intelligent class of men? The woman class or the laborer class, and those who are born in high family but their qualities are not so improved
- Whose (community of Orissa's) members were sometimes known as kayasthas and sometimes as sudras; his (Bhavananda Raya's) son Ramananda Raya was the governor of Madras under the control of King Prataparudra of Jagannatha Puri
- Why there is poverty? Because they are not producing food. Everyone wants so-called comfortable life. So-called education. Sitting idle in the table and chair, and talking all gossips, nonsense, and sleeping. They have been trained up in this way, sudra
- Wine, women and gambling indicate that the population is degraded to less than sudra quality
- Without brahminical qualification one cannot understand Vedic knowledge. Therefore it is stated that a sudra is prohibited from reading Vedas. That does not mean that reading of Vedic culture or Vedic knowledge is monopolized by a certain class of men
- Without real knowledge of atma - the soul, Mayavadi philosophers must be bewildered and must continue to lament as sudras
- Woman are considered less intelligent. In the Bhagavad-gita... Their heart is very soft. Just like children, their heart is very soft. But their intelligence is not very sharp. That is the difference. Striyah sudras tatha vaisyah
- Woman class, laborer class and those who are born in higher family but intelligence is very poor, they are called dvija-bandhu. And for these classes of men the Mahabharata was compiled
- Woman, sudra and brahma-bandhu or dvija-bandhu, they cannot understand Vedic knowledge. Unfortunately, we are creating, trying to create, real brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya
- Women are considered on the same platform with sudras, and although a woman may be married to a brahmana, she is not given the sacred thread
- Women have been compared to sudras and vaisyas (striyo vaisyas tatha sudrah (BG 9.32)). On the spiritual platform, however, when one is elevated to the platform of Krsna consciousness, whether one is a man, woman, sudra or whatever, everyone is equal
- Women, sudras, and vaisyas are ordinarily regarded as less intelligent, but if one takes to Krsna consciousness one is the most intelligent, as stated in the Caitanya-caritamrta - krsna yei bhaje sei bada catura
Y
- Yad yad acarati sreyan (SB 6.2.4). Very important verse. Ideal class of men therefore needed in the society. Therefore Vedic society is divided, ideal men: the brahmanas. Brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra
- Yei krsna-tattva-vetta, sei 'guru' haya. Anyone who is fully Krsna conscious and fixed-up in devotional service, knowing fully well what is Krsna, he is guru. It doesn't matter whether he is a sannyasi or grhastha or brahmana and sudra. It doesn't matter
- You act as a brahmin, as a ksatriya or a vaisya or a sudra. It doesn't matter. But you try to satisfy Krsna. That is the program. That is enjoined in the Srimad-Bhagavatam - SB 1.2.13
- You cannot make classless. If you make classless, naturally they will be all sudras, fourth-class men. Then there will be society chaos
- You cannot make society classless. If you try to make it classless, naturally people will all be sudras, fourth-class men, and worse. Then there will be social chaos
- You cannot say: "Let us all become technologists, sudras, that you can get money for purchasing wine and meat." But the ideal life is lost. Ideal life is lost
- You do not fear the Vedic injunctions stating that You should not associate with a sudra. You were not contemptuous of my touch, although in the Vedas You are forbidden to associate with sudras
- You have given up Krsna's instruction, now you have to suffer. You do not train brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra. So anyone who is in power, he is good. That is Kali-yuga
- You have heard many times the caste system of India: brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra. This is not artificial. It is natural. In any society you go, not only in India, in any other country, these four classes of men are there
- You may be sannyasi or may be grhastha or may be brahmacari or a brahmana, a ksatriya, or vaisya, sudra. Never mind. Try to satisfy Krsna. Try to please Krsna. Then your life is successful. Otherwise, you are pramatta, mad
- You pick up the quality of men and put them in the brahminical class, and then next, ksatriya class, then vaisya class, then sudra class. But you cannot abolish that system. That is a false attempt
- You remain in your position. Don't change. Either you are brahmana or sudra or grhastha or sannyasi, it doesn't matter. But you hear about Krsna. This is the process
- You should not become again sudras or mlecchas or candalas. Be careful. This is brahmana business
- Your service will be recognized by Krsna. Don't think that because you are teaching a sudra how to work like this, you have become a sudra. You are not sudras, any circumstances
