Theme Analysis

Kali-yuga is called the age of quarrel because disagreement, mismanagement, hypocrisy, and spiritual confusion saturate social life. Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that people quarrel not only because of particular issues, but because the atmosphere of the age is polluted by ignorance, passion, and forgetfulness of Kṛṣṇa. The merciful remedy is the holy name, especially the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra, which gives real shelter when other processes are too difficult or broken.

  • Quarrelsome Atmosphere: Kali-yuga produces disagreement even over small matters because the age itself is polluted. This quarrel affects families, leaders, nations, and religious life.
  • Degraded Society: The age of quarrel brings weak marriage, atheistic leadership, unauthorized interpretation, and broken Vedic authority. These symptoms show how far society has moved from spiritual order.
  • Caitanya's Mercy: Lord Caitanya gives the holy name as the practical path for fallen souls in this age. Through chanting, even confidential bhakti-yoga becomes accessible to ordinary people.
  • Only Real Shelter: The scriptures repeatedly declare that chanting the holy names is the only effective means of deliverance in Kali-yuga. The holy name cuts through quarrel, hypocrisy, and illusion by reconnecting the soul with Kṛṣṇa.
