Theme Analysis

Śrīla Prabhupāda defines real auspicity (mangalam) as that which benefits everyone, in all parts of the world, without partiality. He explains that Kṛṣṇa consciousness is the ultimate source of this universal well-being because it addresses the root cause of suffering by reconnecting the soul with the Supreme Lord. While material auspicity—such as wealth, beauty, and high birth—is always adulterated with the threefold miseries, the process of Kṛṣṇa consciousness is "sivadam", meaning it completely uproots these miseries. Śrīla Prabhupāda emphasizes that chanting the holy name, distributing Kṛṣṇa conscious literature, and inquiring about the Absolute Truth bring auspicity to the entire human society. He notes that Kṛṣṇa's form is "bhuvana-mangalam", meant for the welfare of everyone. Even if a person falls down from the path of devotion, the seed of auspicity remains with them, far outweighing any mundane success. Ultimately, real auspicity is not found in the temporary prosperity of the material world but in the successful journey back home, back to Godhead. By pushing on the sankirtana movement and widely distributing the message of the Bhagavad-gītā, peace and auspicity can be established all over the world.

  • Universal Benefit: Real auspicity is defined as that which spreads for everyone across the entire world, rather than being partial or limited to a specific group.
  • The Source of Peace: The Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement and the vibration of the holy name are the primary sources of auspicity and peace for the whole world.
  • Mundane vs. Real Auspicity: Material achievements like wealth and education are adulterated with miseries, whereas real auspicity is the reconnection with the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
  • The Uprooting of Miseries: The process of sivadam ensures that the three-fold miserable conditions of life are completely uprooted, leading to ultimate prosperity.
  • Literature and Questions: Distributing books and asking sincere questions about Kṛṣṇa are activities that bring encouraging results and auspicity to human society.
