Theme Analysis

Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that material destiny, death, old age, sinful reactions, social upheaval, and the laws of nature cannot be checked by ordinary human arrangements. Governments, relief funds, family planning, police vigilance, and material plans may address symptoms, but they cannot stop the deeper forces of karma and material nature. Yet devotional service, love of God, surrender to Kṛṣṇa, preaching, and saṅkīrtana-yajña cannot be checked by material circumstances when performed sincerely and without ulterior motive. This is the meaning of apratihata: Kṛṣṇa consciousness can be practiced in any condition because it belongs to the soul's eternal relationship with the Supreme Lord.

  • Devotional Service Is Uncheckable: Bhakti must be ahaitukī and apratihatā, without motive and without obstruction. When devotional service is sincere, sickness, hardship, social position, or external conditions cannot prevent the soul from serving Kṛṣṇa.
  • Material Laws Cannot Be Stopped: Death, old age, destiny, sinful reactions, and nature's transformations cannot be checked by human plans. The living being must recognize superior authority and seek shelter beyond material arrangements.
  • Preaching Cannot Be Stopped: The Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement cannot be checked by asuras or men of Kaṁsa's class because Kṛṣṇa and His movement are non-different. If devotees dedicate life and soul to spreading it, the movement goes forward without limits.
  • Love and Surrender Are Always Possible: If one wants to love God or surrender to Kṛṣṇa, no material circumstance can stop that desire. Eagerness for Kṛṣṇa is the essential qualification, and it can be cultivated in any position.
