Category:Connection with Women
Theme Analysis
The Vedic literatures identify illicit connection with women as one of the four primary pillars of sinful life, alongside meat-eating, intoxication, and gambling. Indulging in such illegitimate connections destroys all brahminical qualities and firmly anchors the conditioned soul in the miseries of the material world. Therefore, any progressive religionist or responsible human being who is serious about returning back to Godhead must completely eradicate this vice from their life. Giving up this deep-rooted material addiction is the first and most crucial step toward spiritual purification.
To facilitate this purification, the Vedic system provides the strict orders of brahmacārī and sannyāsī. A brahmacārī maintains complete celibacy, ensuring a highly receptive brain and fierce determination for spiritual study. Similarly, the very definition of a sannyāsī is one who has entirely renounced all connection with women. In the modern age, a preacher may utilize modern amenities like cars and comfortable rooms for the service of Kṛṣṇa, but their actual renunciation is tested entirely by their strict, uncompromising avoidance of mundane sexual connections.
The history of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu perfectly illustrates this absolute standard. By severely chastising Junior Haridāsa for his slight mingling with a woman, the Lord established a timeless warning against the hypocrisy of the sahajiyās. These pseudo-spiritualists dress as renounced Vaiṣṇavas but secretly maintain illicit connections, falsely preaching that such behavior is acceptable for a devotee. Furthermore, if an unpurified person prematurely hears about the intimate rāsa dance of Kṛṣṇa, they will inevitably project their own mundane, illicit connections onto the Absolute Truth, further degrading their consciousness.
Ultimately, achieving complete freedom from this profound material attachment is the true mark of a liberated soul. By strictly following the regulative principles and adhering to the therapeutic process of devotional service, a sincere practitioner gradually neutralizes the lure of illicit connection. Upon conquering this profound material allurement, the devotee becomes a spotless paramahaṁsa, completely detached from matter and fully qualified to enter the eternal, spiritual kingdom.
- The Pillar of Sin: Illicit connection with women is one of the four primary vices that destroy brahminical qualities and bind the soul to material existence.
- The Vows of Renunciation: The orders of brahmacarya and sannyāsa strictly require complete celibacy; true renunciation is defined by the absence of connection with women.
- The Hypocrisy of Sahajiyās: Lord Caitanya established a severe standard to expose pseudo-devotees who imitate advanced Vaiṣṇavas while secretly maintaining illicit connections.
- The Test of Liberation: Completely renouncing the desire for material, bodily connections is the ultimate test of a paramahaṁsa and the prerequisite for returning back to Godhead.
