The core of the heart, or hṛdaya, is far more than a physical organ; it is the innermost sanctum of consciousness where the Supreme Personality of Godhead eternally resides as the Supersoul, the Paramātmā, observing all the desires and activities of every living entity. Śrīla Prabhupāda teaches that this divine presence is not distant or abstract but intimate and immediate, the Lord dwells in the core of everyone's heart simultaneously, whether in the heart of Lord Brahmā or the heart of an insect. Yet the vast majority of living entities remain unaware of this presence because the core of the heart is covered by layers of material contamination accumulated through countless lifetimes of desire and attachment.
