The appearance of the Supreme Lord and His representatives is not random; it serves a specific, eternal purpose. Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that Kṛṣṇa descends millennium after millennium with a threefold mission: to deliver the pious, to annihilate the miscreants, and to reestablish the principles of religion (dharma-samsthapanarthaya). This duty is not limited to the Personality of Godhead alone. The bona fide spiritual master and the ācāryas, such as the Six Gosvāmīs, also appear to execute this same mission. They scrutinize the scriptures to establish the eternal religious principles for the benefit of humanity. Whether it is Lord Buddha establishing nonviolence or Lord Kṛṣṇa demonstrating the ideal gṛhastha life, the goal is to revive the occupational duties of the soul. In the modern age, this is accomplished primarily through the distribution of transcendental sound.
