The Vedic literature explicitly declares that the Absolute Truth cannot be understood through mental speculation; it must be approached by following the great authorities (mahājanas). Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that the formula for spiritual perfection is sādhu-śāstra-guru—the saintly persons, the scriptures, and the spiritual master.
