Theme Analysis
Śrīla Prabhupāda teaches that the material world is not the true home of the living entity. Every soul is a sanātana-jīva, an eternal being whose natural position is in the loving service of Kṛṣṇa in the spiritual world. The purpose of the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is to remind every fallen soul of this original identity and guide them back to their eternal home. Whether through devotional practice, philosophical inquiry, or the compassionate preaching of the Lord's devotees, the call to go back to home, back to Godhead, is the most essential message that can be offered to any human being.
- The Material World Is Not Our Real Home: Śrīla Prabhupāda consistently identifies the material world as a place of inevitable calamity, fundamentally foreign to the soul's true nature. The sanātana-dharma of the living entity is to return to the spiritual world, where the soul is reunited with Kṛṣṇa and can once again enjoy its original loving relationship with the Supreme.
- The Highest Goal of Human Life: The highest perfection, saṁsiddhi, is to go back to home, back to Kṛṣṇa. Real education, Śrīla Prabhupāda teaches, is not the accumulation of material knowledge but the understanding of how to solve the fundamental problems of birth, death, and old age by returning to the spiritual world and never again coming back.
- The Universal Call of Devotional Service: Going back to Godhead is achieved through pure devotional service — following the regulative principles, chanting sixteen rounds of the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra, and remaining constantly engaged in the Lord's service. Śrīla Prabhupāda notes that this call is universal, transcending all religious and cultural boundaries, as seen even in the humble teachings of Christ.
- The Eternal Variety Awaiting the Returning Soul: Upon returning to the spiritual world, the soul receives an eternal spiritual body and participates directly in the loving exchanges of Kṛṣṇa and Rādhārāṇī. Playing, dancing, talking, and even fighting with Kṛṣṇa — the variety and bliss of spiritual life surpasses anything conceivable within the material world.
