Category:God's Agency
Theme Analysis
The philosophical essence of this category establishes that the Supreme Personality of Godhead does not need to perform activities personally; He manages the entire cosmic manifestation and the lives of all living entities through His various agencies. Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that the material nature (māyā or prakṛti), often personified as the goddess Durgā, acts as the creating, preserving, and destroying agency of the mundane world. Through this material agency, the Lord awards the living entities their specific bodies (machines) strictly according to their desires and past karma. Furthermore, the Lord empowers specific deputies, such as Lord Brahmā and other demigods, to act as His agencies in managing universal affairs. However, when the Supreme Lord or His pure devotees descend to the material world, they do not do so through the material agency; they appear exclusively through the agency of the internal, spiritual potency (cit-śakti or yogamāyā). Ultimately, every living entity is under control. The only choice a soul has is whether to be controlled by the Lord's external agency, māyā (leading to repeated birth and death), or to be controlled directly by the Lord through devotional service.
- The Material Agency: The material nature (prakṛti) appears to be the cause of the cosmos, but it is merely the external agency acting under the direction of the Supreme Lord.
- The Agency of Karma: The living entity is not independent. Through the agency of material nature, the Paramātmā awards each soul a specific material body based on their desires and astral influences.
- Empowered Deputies: The Lord delegates universal management to authorized deputies. Through the agency of Lord Brahmā, He creates the different species of life.
- The Internal Agency: The Lord and His eternal associates are never subjected to the material energy. They descend to the material universe strictly through the agency of the internal, spiritual potency.
- The Ultimate Choice: Everyone is controlled. One must choose either to be controlled by the punishing agency of māyā or to be controlled directly by the Supreme Lord in Kṛṣṇa consciousness.
