The philosophical essence of this category establishes the absolute, transcendental nature of the Supreme Personality of Godhead's bodily effulgence, known as the brahmajyoti. Just as the sun planet emanates sunshine, the supreme spiritual body of Lord Kṛṣṇa emanates an unfathomed, all-pervasive spiritual light. Within this boundless effulgence, innumerable universes and spiritual planets float. Impersonalists and mental speculators (jñānīs) mistake this glowing effulgence for the ultimate Absolute Truth. Their highest aspiration is sāyujya-mukti, merging into the brahmajyoti, which causes them to lose their individual spiritual identities. However, pure Vaiṣṇava devotees consider merging into this effulgence to be worse than hell (kaivalyaṁ narakāyate). Instead of desiring to become one with the light, pure devotees pray, as instructed in the Īśopaniṣad, for the Lord to wind up His blinding effulgence so they can directly see His beautiful, eternal form of bliss and knowledge (sac-cid-ānanda-vigraha). Because the Lord is like the effulgent sun, His presence instantly dissipates the darkness of material ignorance. The effulgence radiating from His lotus nails enlightens the devotee's heart from within, completely freeing them from the contaminated modes of material nature.
