Theme Analysis

The philosophical essence of this category refutes the impersonal Māyāvādī philosophy which dictates that the Absolute Truth is nirguṇa (void of all qualities). On the contrary, the Vedic literatures declare that the Supreme Personality of Godhead is the infinite reservoir of all good qualities. Because God is absolute, even things that appear as "evil" in the material world are fundamentally good in Him. Furthermore, because the living entities are eternal parts and parcels of the Supreme Lord, they constitutionally possess these exact same godly qualities in minute quantity, just as a drop of ocean water contains all the chemical properties of the vast ocean. In the conditioned state, these original qualities are thickly covered by material contamination. However, the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is the practical science of uncovering this dormant perfection. By engaging in unalloyed devotional service (bhakti-yoga), a conditioned soul can cleanse away the material covering and revive up to 79% of the Lord's supreme qualities. Consequently, a pure devotee becomes the embodiment of the highest moral principles and self-control, mirroring the absolute goodness of the Supreme Lord.

  • The Reservoir of Perfection: God is not an empty void; He is the supreme person possessing infinite good qualities. Because He is absolute, there is no duality of good and evil in Him; everything associated with the Supreme Lord is purely good.
  • Qualitative Oneness: The spirit soul is an eternal fragment of God. Therefore, in its original, uncontaminated state, the living entity naturally possesses all the good qualities of the Supreme Lord in minute quantity.
  • The Cleansing Process: Material existence covers the soul's natural godly qualities with ignorance and vice. Unalloyed devotional service is the only method to cleanse this contamination and reawaken the soul's original, perfect nature.
  • The Extent of Perfection: While the Lord possesses 100% of all transcendental qualities, a liberated living entity can develop and exhibit up to 79% of God's good qualities in full. This shared goodness guarantees complete harmony in the spiritual world (Vaikuṇṭha).
  • The Highest Morality: True morality and good character cannot be achieved through mundane education or philanthropy. They are the automatic by-products of pure devotional service. Great devotees like Prahlāda Mahārāja and Pṛthu Mahārāja are eternally glorified for exhibiting the very qualities of the Supreme Lord.
