Theme Analysis

Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that the Supreme Personality of Godhead has His own eternal, spiritual abode, which is completely distinct from the material world. While God's supreme place is situated in the highest spiritual realm (Vaikuṇṭha or Goloka Vṛndāvana), He also makes Himself available within the material world in specific, purified locations. Any place where the Lord's Deity is worshiped, where His pure devotees reside, or where He performs His transcendental pastimes is non-different from His supreme abode. Even though conditioned souls have foolishly left God's place to suffer in the material world, they can be transferred back to His eternal, blissful realm by taking up the process of pure devotional service.

  • The Eternal Kingdom of God: The Supreme Lord resides in His own transcendental abode, far beyond the material universes, where He eternally enjoys pastimes with His associates.
  • The Sacred Places of His Pastimes: Holy places like Mathurā, Vṛndāvana, and Badarikāśrama are directly sanctified by the Lord's supreme presence and are non-different from the spiritual world.
  • Sanctifying the Material World: Through the installation of the Deity and the presence of pure devotees, any ordinary location can be transformed into a first-class place of worship and spiritual perfection.
  • Returning to the Supreme Abode: Conditioned souls are originally from God's place, and the ultimate goal of human life is to cease trying to enjoy independently and return back home, back to Godhead.
