Theme Analysis

Śrīla Prabhupāda explains the perfect and unchanging nature of God's remaining. The Supreme Personality of Godhead is the complete whole (pūrṇam). Even though He produces unlimited universes and expands into innumerable forms, He remains perfectly complete and eternally unchanged, never diminishing in power. Although He oversees the creation, maintenance, and annihilation of the cosmic manifestation, He remains completely aloof and unaffected by the material modes of nature. Before the creation, He alone existed, and after the annihilation, He alone remains. Yet, out of His boundless compassion, He remains intimately with the living entities as the Supersoul, and He eternally remains with His pure devotees—whether in Vaikuṇṭha, Vṛndāvana, or even acting as the doorman for Bali Mahārāja.

  • The Complete and Undiminished Whole: Despite emanating unlimited energies and expansions, the Supreme Lord always remains the complete balance, never suffering any loss or transformation.
  • Aloof from the Cosmic Creation: The Lord facilitates the creation, maintenance, and destruction of the material world, yet He eternally remains completely aloof and unaffected by material qualities.
  • Existing Beyond Annihilation: When the entire cosmic manifestation is wound up and destroyed, the Supreme Personality of Godhead alone remains in His eternal, spiritual identity.
  • The Constant Companion of the Soul: While the conditioned soul wanders through various species of life in forgetfulness, the Lord remains within the heart as the Supersoul, acting as the eternal witness and friend.
  • Situated in the Supreme Abode: By His inconceivable potencies, the Lord manages all universal affairs while simultaneously remaining eternally situated in His supreme spiritual abode, Goloka Vṛndāvana.
  • Eternally with His Pure Devotees: The Supreme Lord is so conquered by love that He refuses to leave the association of His pure devotees, remaining with them through all circumstances.
