Theme Analysis
The concept of God beginning an action perfectly illustrates the dynamic and deeply personal nature of the Absolute Truth. The Supreme Lord is not an inactive, formless energy; He is the supreme actor who consciously initiates both cosmic functions and intimate, loving exchanges. At the start of every millennium, it is the Lord who begins the massive endeavor of cosmic creation through His external energy. On a much more personal level, the moment a conditioned soul begins the path of devotional service, the Supreme Lord, sitting as the Supersoul within the heart, actively begins to help the devotee dust away all material impurities.
When the Lord descends into the material world, His actions unfold in beautifully human-like sequences that captivate the hearts of His devotees. In the sacred land of Vṛndāvana, the Supreme Personality of Godhead perfectly played the role of a child. To the absolute delight of the residents of Gokula, Lord Kṛṣṇa and Lord Balarāma began to crawl on their hands and knees, eventually began to walk, and soon began to playfully tend the small calves. These progressive pastimes prove that the Lord subjects Himself to the phases of childhood simply to enhance the transcendental joy of His pure devotees.
In other spectacular descents, the Lord's beginnings showcase His unrivaled majesty and strength. Lord Varāha began to search for the submerged earth by smelling like a boar, while Lord Balarāma, in a display of fierce power, began yanking massive trees and even began to drag the entire city of Hastināpura toward the Ganges. Most recently, five hundred years ago, the Lord appeared as Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. Alongside Lord Nityānanda and Advaita Ācārya, He felt deep compassion for the fallen souls and began a magnificent spiritual revolution, touring the country and dancing in ecstasy to inaugurate the saṅkīrtana movement for the benefit of the entire world.
