Theme Analysis
The very essence of the Supreme Personality of Godhead is His absolute and flawless nature. Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that because God is absolute, there is absolutely no difference between Him, His holy name, His transcendental form, and His service. Being eternally situated beyond the material modes of nature, the Lord is never subjected to illusion, curses, or material exhaustion. Foolish commentators often claim that God can be overpowered by māyā or that He accepts a material body when He incarnates, but such ideas are completely illogical. If God were ever entrapped by māyā, illusion would be greater than God. In truth, being all-powerful and self-sufficient, the Lord always appears in His original, spiritual, and blissful form.
Because the Lord is omniscient and situated as the Supersoul (Paramātmā) in the core of every living entity's heart, He knows the exact desires and spiritual standing of everyone. Being the supreme father and maintainer, He is naturally neutral to all. The less intelligent accuse Him of partiality when they see Him favor the demigods over the demons, but the Lord is simply reciprocating with the service attitude of the surrendered souls.
In His relationship with His pure devotees, the Lord's absolute nature manifests as profound mercy. Being omniscient, He knows exactly what a devotee needs for spiritual advancement. If a sincere but materially attached devotee asks for mundane benefits, the Lord, being exceedingly kind, will often refuse that request and instead take away their material possessions—just as He did with Bali Mahārāja. Furthermore, being situated within the heart, the Lord provides the pure devotee with the specific intelligence required to overcome adversity, preach His glories, and ultimately return back home, back to Godhead.
