The concept of God consciousness is the very foundation of a sane, moral, and progressive human civilization. Śrīla Prabhupāda frequently emphasizes that a society devoid of God consciousness is nothing more than a polished animal society. The modern world's obsession with economic development, industrialism, and political maneuvering is fundamentally flawed because it ignores the central spiritual necessity of the human form of life. Therefore, true God consciousness is incompatible with activities like animal slaughter.

Because it is the essence of all true religion, the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is not a sectarian faith. Śrīla Prabhupāda points out that great personalities like Lord Jesus Christ and Muhammad were empowered servants of God whose sole mission was to awaken God consciousness in their respective times, often at the risk of their own lives. The ultimate welfare work, therefore, is to vigorously propagate this spiritual science. By training children from a young age, adhering to the four regulative principles (no meat-eating, illicit sex, gambling, or intoxication), and widely distributing the chanting of the holy names, the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement aims to revive the lost spiritual culture of humanity, thereby ensuring genuine peace, prosperity, and happiness for the entire world.
