Theme Analysis
The Supreme Personality of Godhead is the original master and supreme controller, situated far above everyone and everything. According to Śrīla Prabhupāda, the Vedic mantras clearly establish that the Lord stands above all the exalted demigods, including Lord Brahmā and Lord Śiva. Even these great personalities recognize their subordinate position. When Gajendra the elephant was in mortal danger, the principal demigods did not attempt to rescue him, knowing perfectly well that he was praying to the Supreme Lord, who is situated above them all.
Because God is one without a second, He is perfectly described as asamūrdhva, meaning no one is equal to Him and no one is above Him. He is the viśva-guru, the supreme master of the universe. Occasionally, order carriers like the Yamadūtas may wonder if anyone exists above their master, Yamarāja, but Yamarāja himself immediately clears away their doubts by confirming the existence of one supreme controller above everything. Therefore, the attempts of foolish Māyāvādī philosophers to equate themselves with God are simply products of envious illusion. The Lord's omnipotence places Him eternally above both the demons and the demigods.
Furthermore, the Supreme Lord is entirely above all material qualities and modes of nature. Although Lord Viṣṇu accepts control of the mode of goodness (sattva-guṇa) to maintain the cosmic manifestation, He never actually belongs to the material mode of goodness. He is situated on the eternal, transcendental platform of bliss and knowledge. Even when the Lord is visible within the material world, He operates exclusively through His internal energy, remaining forever above the mundane conceptions of good and bad.
Being completely transcendental, the Absolute Truth is inherently above all material emotions and faults. As the Kurus recognized, Lord Balarāma is completely above anger, envy, and enmity. Wrath and lust can never enter the heart of the Supreme. Even if the Lord humbly speaks as if He were in the wrong during a pastime, the great sages perfectly understand that He remains the supreme, flawless personality, eternally above all material conditions and designations.
- Above the Demigods: The Supreme Lord is the original master, positioned infinitely higher than all exalted demigods, including Lord Brahmā, Lord Śiva, and Indra.
- The Unrivaled Controller: God is asamūrdhva; no one is equal to or greater than Him, and He stands above both the demons and the demigods as the absolute controller.
- Transcendental to the Modes: The Lord is completely above the modes of material nature, including the mode of goodness, existing solely in a state of eternal bliss and knowledge.
- Above Material Faults: Because the Lord is purely spiritual, He is eternally above all mundane emotions such as anger, envy, wrath, and lust.
