Theme Analysis

The statement "God is all-powerful" is universally accepted, but understanding how that power operates requires transcendental knowledge. According to Śrīla Prabhupāda, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Kṛṣṇa, possesses inconceivable energies that allow Him to perform tasks that baffle the mundane mind. For instance, because God is all-powerful, it is not difficult for Him to lift the Govardhana Hill; after all, He is already floating innumerable planets, including the gigantic Mandara Mountain, in the sky by His inconceivable potency. This power is represented by Mahā-Lakṣmī, the reservoir of all energies, situated on His transcendental form.

Because the Lord is all-powerful, He is never subjected to the control of material nature. Māyā is simply one of His external energies, working wonderfully under His supreme glance. Therefore, the theory that God can be entrapped by māyā is foolish, for if that were true, māyā would be more powerful than God. Even when He descends as an incarnation—such as Lord Vāmanadeva, who covered the three worlds with His steps, or Lord Nṛsiṁhadeva, who thwarted the godless plans of Hiraṇyakaśipu—He remains completely transcendental and unaffected by the material atmosphere.

This omnipotence directly benefits the surrendered devotee. The all-powerful Lord is able to adjust opposites such as birth and death, power and defeat. He can completely excuse all sinful reactions, extend a devotee's lifespan, and immediately transfer a person to Vaikuṇṭhaloka. Furthermore, because He is all-powerful, He can accept the humble service of conditioned souls through His incarnation as the arcā-mūrti in the temple. To consider the Deity to be mere stone or wood is a grave offense against His omnipotence.

Ultimately, the difference between God and the living entity is a matter of power. We are infinitesimal sparks, possessing limited power, while God is the infinite, all-powerful fire. A pure devotee recognizes this reality and minimizes their own defending propensity, choosing instead to take complete shelter under the protection of the all-powerful Supreme Lord, the master of all energies.

  • Inconceivable Feats: The all-powerful Lord effortlessly sustains huge planets in space, so lifting a mountain or covering the universe with three steps is not mythology, but a factual display of His omnipotence.
  • Master of Māyā: God is never controlled by material nature; rather, the physical laws work wonderfully simply by the glance of the all-powerful Lord.
  • Protecting the Devotee: Because God is all-powerful, He can nullify all karmic reactions, adjust opposites, and perfectly protect His surrendered servants from all dangers.
  • The Arcā-mūrti: It is by His omnipotent grace that the Lord accepts service through the Deity form in the temple; thinking the Deity is made of stone or wood is an offense against His power.
