Theme Analysis

The Supreme Personality of Godhead is celebrated throughout the Vedic literatures as the Almighty Father. According to Śrīla Prabhupāda, the Lord is the ultimate seed-giving father of all living entities, across all species and planets. He is the original source from whom the entire cosmic manifestation emanates, by whom it is maintained, and in whom it is ultimately merged. By His supreme will, the great, almighty Lord created the intricate material world, complete with its diverse planets and stars, while remaining completely independent and full in Himself.

The Lord is designated as almighty because His capabilities are absolutely unlimited and inconceivable to the mundane mind. He does not require the help of any subordinate to accomplish His desires. As confirmed by the Vedic mantras (aṅgāni yasya sakalendriya-vṛttimanti), He can perform any action with any part of His spiritual body; He can see with His hands or walk with His eyes. Compared to the almighty power of God, even the most powerful living entity is nothing more than a toy lion in the hands of a playing child. While the living entities are persons with limited power, the Supreme Person is infinite and almighty.

Despite interacting with the material world to facilitate creation and maintenance, the Almighty Lord is never controlled by the laws of material nature. Lord Viṣṇu possesses three primary potencies—internal, external, and marginal—and He executes His almighty will through these different energies. His transcendental position remains eternally unchanged as the form of knowledge and bliss. As Śrīla Jīva Gosvāmī explains in his Bhagavat-sandarbha, the complete conception of the Absolute Truth is realized only in the Personality of Godhead precisely because He is almighty and possesses full transcendental potencies.

Recognizing this supreme power, an intelligent human being abandons all other engagements and takes absolute shelter of the Almighty Father. The terrible fear of repeated birth and death can never be vanquished by relying on mundane shelters or personal strength. However, as soon as a conditioned soul surrenders to the divine will of the Almighty, the attacks of material nature are instantly neutralized. By constantly praying to and serving the almighty Lord, a devotee becomes eligible to leave the temporary material world and return back home, back to Godhead.

  • The Almighty Creator: The Supreme Lord is the Almighty Father, the seed-giving origin of all living entities and the creator of the entire cosmic manifestation.
  • Inconceivable Capabilities: Because He is almighty, the Lord can perform any action with any part of His spiritual body and requires no subordinate help.
  • Beyond Material Laws: The Almighty Lord utilizes His internal, external, and marginal potencies to execute His will without ever being controlled by material nature.
  • The Ultimate Shelter: Surrendering to the Almighty Father is the only way to conquer the fear of birth and death and vanquish the attacks of the material energy.
