Category:God Is Extraordinary
Theme Analysis
The Supreme Personality of Godhead is distinguished from all ordinary living beings by His completely extraordinary nature. According to Śrīla Prabhupāda, one should never accept a cheap imposter or a fanciful concoction as God. The true incarnation of the Lord appears only under extraordinary circumstances and always displays specific, extraordinary feats that are impossible for any common man to perform or imitate. While the Lord sometimes acts like an ordinary human being to set a societal example, He simultaneously performs miraculous activities to unequivocally establish His supreme supremacy.
The extraordinary nature of Kṛṣṇa is vividly displayed in His transcendental forms and aesthetic beauty. When Lord Viṣṇu appears with the goddess of fortune, His extraordinarily beautiful and smiling face easily captivates the entire universe. Yet, His forms can also be so overwhelmingly extraordinary—such as His fierce manifestation as Lord Nṛsiṁhadeva—that even Lakṣmījī, the goddess of fortune, is struck with wonder and cannot approach Him. Even His voice is completely extraordinary, as recognized by the highly pious residents of Janaloka and Tapoloka when Lord Varāha boldly roared to sustain the earth.
Hearing about these extraordinarily wonderful activities is the source of supreme spiritual joy. The narrations of the Lord's pastimes, such as Lord Rāmacandra's extraordinary power in defeating the mighty Rākṣasas Rāvaṇa and Kumbhakarṇa, completely captivate fortunate souls. Even the terrifying agents of death, the Yamadūtas, are struck with wonder upon hearing the extraordinary glories of the Lord's name, fame, and attributes, rendering them absolutely fearful of ever approaching a pure devotee.
Ultimately, the Lord's extraordinary power is most accessibly manifested through His causeless mercy and His holy name. The holy name is extraordinarily powerful, capable of purifying any lowborn person or saving a fallen brāhmaṇa from all calamities. By the extraordinary mercy of the Lord, a devotee who constantly chants His glories in ecstatic love will undoubtedly attain the highest perfection of unalloyed devotional service and fully appreciate the transcendental beauty of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
