The philosophical essence of this category establishes the absolute distinction in magnitude between the Supreme Personality of Godhead and the living entities. Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that while the Lord and the living entities are qualitatively one—like a fire and its sparks—they are quantitatively vastly different. God is infinite, whereas the spirit soul is infinitesimal. The Supreme Lord manifests His infinite energy by entering every universe and every atomic particle, sustaining the entire cosmic creation without ever being diminished or bewildered. Due to a poor fund of knowledge, mental speculators attempt to measure this infinity with their tiny brains, often concluding that they can become one with God. However, the infinitesimal soul can never become equal to the infinite Supreme. True spiritual perfection is achieved only when the infinitesimal living entity realizes its subordinate position and engages in the loving devotional service of the infinite Lord.
