Theme Analysis

The philosophical essence of this category establishes the absolute nature of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, wherein there is no duality between the Lord and His various manifestations. Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that because God is absolute, He is completely nondifferent from His holy name, His transcendental form, His pastimes (kṛṣṇa-kathā), and His spiritual abode like Vṛndāvana. Furthermore, His innumerable plenary expansions (such as Vāsudeva and Saṅkarṣaṇa) and His worshipable deity form (arcā-vigraha) are also identical to Him. Regarding the material creation and the living entities, Śrīla Prabhupāda presents the philosophy of acintya-bhedābheda-tattva—simultaneous oneness and difference. Because the cosmic manifestation and the souls are the energy of the Lord, they are qualitatively nondifferent from Him, although quantitatively different. The Māyāvādī misconception that the soul is nondifferent from God in all respects is firmly refuted.

  • His Name, Form, and Pastimes: On the absolute plane, there is no difference between the Supreme Lord and His holy name, His transcendental body, or the topics discussed about Him (kṛṣṇa-kathā).
  • His Expansions and Abode: The Lord's innumerable plenary expansions, His literary incarnation (Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam), and His spiritual abode are completely nondifferent from the original Personality of Godhead.
  • His Energies and Creation: The cosmic manifestation is a transformation of the Lord's energy. Since the energy and the energetic are inseparable, the material world is simultaneously different and nondifferent from the Lord.
  • The Living Entities: The minute souls are parts and parcels of God and are therefore qualitatively nondifferent from Him. However, it is an illusion to think they are nondifferent in all respects, as the Lord is infinite and the soul is infinitesimal.
