Category:God Is The Supreme Person

Theme Analysis

The philosophical essence of this category establishes that the Absolute Truth is ultimately the Supreme Person, Bhagavān. Śrīla Prabhupāda rigorously refutes the Māyāvādī (impersonalist) and Buddhist (voidist) philosophies, which falsely claim that the ultimate reality is formless or zero. The Vedic literatures, including the Bhagavad-gītā and Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, confirm that while God can be partially realized as the impersonal Brahman or the localized Paramātmā, the complete realization is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Because we are persons, our original creator and supreme father must also be a person. However, unlike the minute, conditioned living entities who are subject to the laws of material nature, the Supreme Person possesses an eternal, spiritual body (sac-cid-ānanda-vigraha) and is full of unlimited opulences. He is the supreme controller, the supreme maintainer, and the cause of all causes. The ultimate perfection of human life is to transcend mental speculation and engage in the unalloyed loving devotional service of this Supreme Person.

  • The Absolute Person: The ultimate truth is not a void or an impersonal energy; He is the Supreme Person, the original source of all existence.
  • Partial Realizations: Realizing the impersonal brahma-jyotir or the localized Paramātmā is incomplete. One must transcend these stages to see the Supreme Person face to face.
  • Qualitative Oneness, Quantitative Difference: Both the Lord and the living entities are persons, but the Supreme Person is infinite, infallible, and the absolute controller, whereas the ordinary living entities are infinitesimal and prone to illusion.
  • The Supreme Form and Opulence: The Supreme Person does not possess a material body. His form is entirely spiritual, eternal, and full of the six opulences: wealth, strength, fame, beauty, knowledge, and renunciation.
  • The Cause of All Causes: The vast material cosmic manifestation does not work automatically; it is a machine directed by the supreme intelligence of the Supreme Person.
  • The Supremacy of Devotion: The Supreme Person cannot be understood through mental speculation or mundane logic. He is known and achieved only through the path of pure devotional service (bhakti-yoga).
