Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that unlike ordinary living entities in the material world who are forced to take birth according to their past karma, the Lord has no beginning and is the supreme cause of all causes. Although He appears in the material world as an incarnation, such as the son of Devakī and Vasudeva, His appearance is purely transcendental and is enacted through His own internal potency, yogamāyā. Less intelligent persons, described as mūḍhas, misunderstand this divine appearance and consider the Lord to be an ordinary human being subject to the laws of material nature. However, the Vedic literatures confirm that both the Lord and the individual jīva souls are eternally unborn as spiritual personalities, yet the Lord remains the supreme, infallible controller who is never touched by material qualities.
