Theme Analysis

Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that the ultimate source of perfect guidance is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Kṛṣṇa. As the Supersoul, or Paramātmā, the Lord is situated in the heart of every living entity, constantly offering the good counsel necessary to return back to Godhead. When a conditioned soul disobeys this internal guidance, material suffering ensues. However, by fixing the mind on Kṛṣṇa and maintaining a sincere attitude of service, one receives the divine intelligence needed to overcome all obstacles. Furthermore, pure devotees and saintly persons act as the external manifestations of the Supersoul, distributing this transcendental counsel to society. Whether guiding politicians, preaching to the public, or cooperating among Godbrothers, the good counsel of Vaiṣṇavas purifies the world, although it must be offered with discretion to avoid provoking foolish persons.

  • The Inner Guide: Kṛṣṇa resides in everyone's heart as the Supersoul, eagerly giving the living entity good counsel to return to the spiritual world.
  • The Cause of Suffering: Material misery is a direct result of the living entity's stubborn refusal to abide by the good counsel of the Lord.
  • Direct Divine Reciprocation: For those who surrender and fix their minds on Him, Kṛṣṇa personally provides the intelligence and counsel needed for spiritual success.
  • The Counsel of Sages: Pure devotees deliver the Lord's counsel to society, capable of bringing about great positive change if accepted by leaders and politicians.
  • Friendship and Cooperation: Among devotees, offering good counsel and sympathetic cooperation is vital for preaching and personal spiritual advancement.
