This category analyzes the Intellectual capacity, which resides on a plane above the mental and sensual strata, yet is still material and inferior to the spirit soul. Śrīla Prabhupāda clarifies that the intellectual brain is necessary for spiritual understanding (like that of the brāhmaṇa class) and for advancing in learning (art, science, philosophy). However, the Intellectual capacity has a severe limit: it cannot understand the Supreme Lord through mere intellectual feats or gymnastics. The ultimate transcendence of intellectualism is achieved when one uses one's intellectual service to surrender to Kṛṣṇa, realizing that true Kṛṣṇa consciousness is enacted directly from the spiritual platform, completely bypassing the lower states of consciousness.
