Theme Analysis

The phrase "That is Kṛṣṇa's" recurs throughout Śrīla Prabhupāda's teachings as a profound declaration of divine sovereignty: every arrangement, every act of grace, every piece of property, every family bond, and every expression of cosmic justice ultimately belongs to and flows from the personal will of the Supreme Lord. Drawing from the Bhagavad-gītā and his own purports and conversations, Śrīla Prabhupāda trains his disciples to recognize Kṛṣṇa's hand in all circumstances, from the management of a temple to the chanting and dancing of devotees, and to understand that this recognition is itself the beginning of genuine Kṛṣṇa consciousness.

  • Everything Belongs to Kṛṣṇa - His Property and His Establishment: Śrīla Prabhupāda repeatedly reminds his disciples that all facilities, including buildings, vehicles, technology, and organizations, are Kṛṣṇa's property and must be used exclusively in His service. Even management and institutional activity are not mundane affairs but spiritual service, for the entire Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is Kṛṣṇa's own establishment. Even the offering of food and any sin incidentally connected with it belong to Kṛṣṇa, and the devotee who takes prasādam is simply receiving Kṛṣṇa's mercy.
  • Kṛṣṇa's Business, Order and Desire: The Supreme Lord has a specific will operating in every situation. His business is to protect the righteous and chastise the wrongdoer simultaneously, and His order to His devotees is one of full, active engagement with no room for idleness. When Kṛṣṇa calls a soul to surrender and give up demonic engagement, that call itself is Kṛṣṇa's personal desire, and the soul's response determines whether it advances toward liberation or remains in bondage.
  • Kṛṣṇa's Grace, Mercy and Arrangement: Śrīla Prabhupāda teaches that every circumstance favorable to devotional service, including the opportunity to preach, the drawing of souls into spiritual association, and the acquisition of a place for worship, is to be recognized as Kṛṣṇa's personal arrangement and grace. Even Kṛṣṇa's willingness to be apparently defeated or controlled by a pure devotee is described as His mercy, a supreme expression of His love for those who have surrendered to Him.
  • Kṛṣṇa's Purpose, Family and Supreme Abode: Because Kṛṣṇa is ānandamaya by nature, His very purpose in creating is to enjoy loving exchanges with the living entities. The real family, eternal, blissful, and transcendental, is Kṛṣṇa's own family, in contrast to the false material family for which the conditioned soul endlessly struggles. And Kṛṣṇa's supreme abode, described in the Bhagavad-gītā (BG 8.21) as unmanifested and infallible, is the ultimate destination from which one who arrives never returns.
