Category:Without Reason

Theme Analysis

The philosophical essence of this category contrasts the nature of pure devotional service with the irrational behaviors of the material world. Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that true love of God (ahaitukī bhakti) is performed "without reason," meaning it is completely spontaneous and unmotivated by material gain, heavenly elevation, or even daily bread. Paradoxically, while devotional service requires no material cause, adopting Kṛṣṇa consciousness is highly logical and supported by deep philosophy, refuting blind faith. Conversely, in the material sphere, atheists, corrupt politicians, and ordinary materialists frequently act "without reason" in a negative sense—starting wars, exploiting citizens, and remaining envious of God and others, completely bereft of spiritual logic.

  • Unmotivated Devotional Service: Pure devotional service (ahaitukī bhakti) is performed without any material reason or cause. A pure devotee loves Kṛṣṇa spontaneously, not for daily bread or liberation, and this love cannot be checked by any material impediment.
  • Faith Based on Reason and Logic: While love of God is unmotivated, the process of Kṛṣṇa consciousness is not blind faith. It is grounded in supreme logic, philosophy, and authority, allowing intelligent persons to accept the Absolute Truth.
  • Irrational Material Destructiveness: Without the guidance of Vedic injunctions, materialistic leaders and atheists act without reason, engaging in warmongering, exploiting citizens without payment, and killing innocent animals and trees whimsically.
  • The Supreme Controller: It is highly illogical to assume the complex universe operates without reason. There is always a superior intelligence and infinite controller (Jagadīśa) managing the cosmos and maintaining the planets in space.
