Theme Analysis

Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that anxiety and worry are inherent to the material platform. Materialistic individuals are constantly plagued by fears regarding the future, family maintenance, political affairs, and their impending death. However, a pure devotee is completely freed from such anxieties. Because the Supreme Lord maintains all 8,400,000 species of life, a devotee does not need to worry about the basic necessities of eating and sleeping, nor about the reactions to past sinful activities. By completely surrendering to Kṛṣṇa and chanting the Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra, one transcends all material fears and useless worries, resting assured in the supreme protection of the Lord.

  • The Inevitability of Material Worry: As long as one remains on the bodily platform of life, fear and constant worry about the future are absolutely unavoidable.
  • Attachment and Family Anxieties: Strong material attachments to wife, children, and social prestige cause immense anxiety, blinding the conditioned soul to the actual aim of life, especially at the time of death.
  • Divine Maintenance and Useless Anxiety: The Supreme Lord already provides for millions of species of life; therefore, worrying about economic development, bodily maintenance, or overpopulation is a useless waste of time.
  • Complete Surrender and Divine Protection: A pure devotee becomes entirely free from worry by depending fully on Kṛṣṇa, knowing that the Lord personally maintains His devotees and neutralizes all sinful reactions.
