Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that Mahārāja Yadu, the eldest son of King Yayāti and Devayānī, was an exalted soul completely aware of religious principles (dharma). When King Yayāti, driven by material illusion, shamelessly asked his sons to exchange their youth for his old age, Yadu refused. Unlike his brothers who refused out of ignorance, Yadu's refusal was purely transcendental. Like the four Kumaras who refused their father Lord Brahma for a higher cause, Yadu declined because he wanted to use his youth to cultivate renunciation and engage fully in devotional service (bhakti) without the disturbance of premature old age. Because of Yadu's unalloyed devotion and eagerness to serve, he became immensely dear to the Supreme Lord, prompting Śrī Kṛṣṇa to personally descend in his glorious dynasty.
