- A brahmana may renounce his family and accept sannyasa. Others - ksatriyas and vaisyas - may also give up their families and take to Krsna consciousness. Such renunciation is called karma-tyaga. By such renunciation, the SP of Godhead is satisfied

- As stated in Bhagavad-gita (BG 18.2), giving up the fruits of one's activities to the Supreme Personality of Godhead is called sannyasa
- As stated in Bhagavad-gita (BG 18.3), yajna-dana-tapah-karma na tyajyam: the Vedic ritualistic ceremonies, charity, austerity and all such prescribed duties are never to be given up

- Krsna is asking to work for Him, giving up everything. That is clear, everyone knows. "Here also I am working very hard, but here I am working hard to be happy, but the viparitani, I am becoming unhappy. So why not work for Krsna?" This is intelligence
- Krsna is canvassing personally that - You give up all these plans, sarva-dharman parityajya mam ekam saranam vraja. That will save you from this precarious position of material world, threefold miseries, suffering after suffering after suffering
- Krsna is criticizing Arjuna, maha-bahu. Actually he is maha-bahu. Maha-bahu means mighty-armed. One who has got a very strong, mighty arm, he can fight very strongly. Then also, why should you give up your fighting spirit?
- Krsna is personally advising: sarva-dharman parityajya mam ekam saranam vraja: (BG 18.66) "Give up all your concocted religions and surrender to Me alone." take His advice and be happy

- One doesn't have to give up his occupation as a brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra or whatever. In any position, while discharging his prescribed duty, one can develop Krsna consciousness simply by associating with devotees who are Krsna's representatives

- One may not give up work and prescribed duties all of a sudden; but by gradually developing KC, one can be situated in a transcendental position without being influenced by the material senses and directed toward one's pure identity. BG 1972 purports

- So it is very difficult job, but if one is able to give up these sinful activities, then his life is very pure. He becomes purified

- The people to whom Buddha philosophy was preached, they were not so intelligent that there can be better service after giving up this service. Therefore Lord Buddha said - You stop this service, you become happy, because ultimately everything is zero
- The performance of activities for results has to be given up. This is the instruction of Bhagavad-gita. But activities leading to advanced spiritual knowledge are not to be given up. This will be made clear in the next verse (BG 18.3). BG 1972 purports

- There are processes by which you can give up so much addiction to sex life
- There are six basic guidelines for surrender. The second is that one should give up everything that is unfavorable to the discharge of devotional service, and one should be determined to give it all up

- These hippies, they are frustrating. They have given up everything. We can study their psychic movement. They are not satisfied. That is the main principle. That is natural, to accept adversity voluntarily, adversity. So this is frustration
- These people are working so hard because they have got the aim, "I will enjoy sex life." Just like in your country, the hippies. They have given up everything, but sex is there. They cannot give it up
- These so-called sannyasis, they give up everything - brahma satyam jagan mithya - Vivekananda or this Karpatri. Again they come to these material activities. Somebody takes social work, somebody takes political work
- These things cannot be given up. One should not think oneself very advanced simply because one has accepted the sannyasa order. The activities of Bharata Maharaja should be carefully studied for one's spiritual advancement
- These things will not satisfy you, My dear boy. - Sarva-dharman pari . . . "You give up all this nonsense. Come to Me. I shall give you all protection." But we don't want to take protection. What God will do
- They (devotees) are fully engaged twenty-four hours a day, and therefore they are able to give up sinful life

- They (the imitators) are sometimes even affected by the reflection of such transcendental symptoms, yet if they still do not give up the forbidden habits, then they are hopeless cases for transcendental realization

- Those who are too much attached to woman and not devotee of Krsna, they are bad. So Caitanya Mahaprabhu says give up the company of these two bad men, that's all. That is Vaisnava

- Those who want to be relieved from the material clutches give up the worship of the various demigods who have fearful bodily features. Such peaceful devotees, who are not envious of the demigods, worship the different forms of the S P of God, Narayana
- Thousands of books are printed and read, and after six months thrown away. This way and that - how can you know the Supreme by speculation on the information supplied by your blunt senses? Give up research - throw it away - just become submissive

- To give up all these bad habits means we have to associate with sadhus or devotees, saintly persons. Then we can give it up. This is called anartha-nivrtti, means giving up all unwanted bad habits
