- A gosvami knows the standard of sense happiness. In transcendental sense happiness, the senses are engaged in the service of Hrsikesa or the supreme owner of the senses-Krsna. Serving Krsna with purified senses is called Krsna consciousness. BG 1972 pur
- A hog's life is degraded in its standard of happiness, which entails living in a filthy place, engaging in sex enjoyment at every opportune moment, and laboring hard in a struggle for existence, but this is unknown to the hog
- A liberated person enjoys happiness by factual experience. He can, therefore, sit silently at any place and enjoy the activities of life from within. BG 1972 purports
- A living being is constitutionally a spiritual spark of the complete whole, and his happiness can be perfectly perceived in spiritual activities
- A living being, especially civilized man, has a natural desire to live forever in happiness. This is quite natural because, in his original state, the living being is both eternal and joyful
- A living being, especially the human being, is seeking happiness because happiness is the natural situation of the living entity. But he is vainly seeking happiness in the material atmosphere

- According to our karma, our life holds some portion of happiness and some portion of distress. Therefore, if distress comes without invitation, happiness will also come without invitation
- According to the body, one undergoes distress and happiness. One cannot expect a dog to enjoy the same happiness that a king or rich man enjoys
- Actually, in the Vedic literature it is said that the mode of goodness means greater knowledge and a greater sense of happiness. BG 1972 purports

- Dear Lord, kindly hear our one petition. You have already said that You will derive happiness from our happiness. This is Your own statement

- Either in danger or in happiness, it (maha-mantra) can be chanted without limitation
- Either you love your family or your country or your society or your wife, your children, by loving there is happiness. But this loving process is not giving us happiness. We are becoming frustrated
- Engaging that money for increasing further money, increasing further money . . . then one day he may be millionaire. So that millionaire, to become, that is also not undisturbed happiness. - How to keep the money? How to invest it?
- Especially mentioned in this verse (SB 3.19.31) is the word akhanditotsavam. Utsava means "pleasure." Whenever some function takes place to express happiness, it is called utsava
- Even if a devotee does not complete the course of devotional service, he enjoys the happiness of the heavenly planets, where the most pious people dwell, and then takes birth in the house of a suci or sriman, a pious brahmana or a wealthy vaisya
- Even the hippies, who have given up all the materialistic comforts of their fathers and grandfathers, cannot give up the sensational happiness of sex life. Such persons are described here (in SB 7.9.45) as krpanas, misers

- Generally people are trying to elevate his position, economic condition, working day and night very hard. Similarly, we can also work very hard for our future happiness
- God created you to become happy. He's happy. You are part and parcel of Krsna. You should be happy. But you don't accept the way of happiness. That is your fault
- God has given advanced consciousness to the human being. Therefore he can feel the suffering and happiness of other living beings. The human being bereft of his conscience, however, is prone to cause suffering for other living beings

- Happiness derived from the touch of skin, or sensuous happiness, is present in the life of hogs and dogs. Such happiness is very insignificant. If a devotee worships the Lord for such insignificant happiness, he must be considered devoid of all knowledge
- Happiness in complete perfection without hindrance can be achieved only by our devotional relationship with Him. And it is only by His association that we can get free of distressful material existence
- Happiness in spiritual nature always increases in volume with a new phase of appreciation; there is no question of decreasing the bliss. Such unalloyed spiritual bliss is nowhere to be found within the orbit of the material universe

- In an article about the temple of the Hare Krsna movement in Durban, South Africa, the Durban Post reported, All the devotees here are very active in the service of Lord Krsna, and the results are obvious to see: happiness
- In Bhagavad-gita we are warned: O best among men (Arjuna), the person who is not disturbed by happiness and distress and is steady in both is certainly eligible for liberation - BG 2.15
- In Bhagavad-gita, it is said that this flowery language of the Vedas mostly attracts persons who identify with the body. To them such happiness as that of the heavenly kingdom is everything
- In darkness at night the only happiness is sleeping and sex, that's all. There is no other happiness. And when there was dark in New York, electricity failed, and so many women became pregnant. (laughs) Yes
- In every species of life, including the human form of life, such happiness is immensely obtainable

- It is said, go-brahmana-hitaya ca. The Lord's first inclination is to give all benedictions to the cows and brahmanas. Therefore if brahmanas favor someone, the Lord does not interfere, nor can anyone interfere with the happiness of such a person

- It is the duty of a father to understand the astrological position of his children and do what is needed for their happiness
- It is the duty of the spirit soul to surrender, for only then can he be happy. The last instruction of Bhagavad-gita is that the spirit soul surrender completely unto the supreme soul, Krsna, and in that way realize happiness
- It is the real problem of life. We say that you live peacefully, happily, but don't risk your life

- Joyful life is eternally possible when we dance with Krsna, not dance alone or dance with anyone else. So unless we get that position, there is no actually happiness. Because variety is the mother of enjoyment
- Just as misery comes without our trying for it, so the happiness we deserve will also come, by higher arrangement. A dog has a material body, and I have a material body. So my sex pleasure and the dog's sex pleasure is the same

- Karmis are working for some affection, for family affection or dog’s affection - one who hasn’t got family, he has got a dog. So there is some affection and they are working so hard, but capala sukha-laba lagi re. That happiness is very flickering
- King Nrga said, "Although I was in the midst of luxury and opulence and was subject to so much of the happiness and misery of material existence, I am so fortunate to be seeing You (Krsna) personally"
- Know Me to be the Supreme Brahman, the all-pervading Supersoul through whom the sleeping living entity can understand his dreaming condition and his happiness beyond the activities of the material senses
- Krsna is an ocean of mercy. He is especially merciful to the poor and fallen. Without His mercy, there is no possibility of happiness
- Krsna said, "For material happiness based on sex life is available in the most abominable species of life, such as hogs, dogs. No one should try to approach Me for such happiness, which is available even if one is put into a hellish condition of life"
- Ksatriya king has got two functions. One function is to give protection and happiness to the good citizens, and another function is to kill the demons or the disturbing elements in the society

- Laksmana said, "In great happiness he (Laksmana's father) began to distribute to friends and relatives various kinds of gifts, such as valuable garments, ornaments, bedsteads and sitting carpets"
- Land is your place, but if you are placed in the ocean, however expert... You may be very expert swimmer, but that does not mean that you are happy. You can go on struggling, swimming, very expert swimming, but that does not mean happiness
- Let us take it from the authority of Srimad-Bhagavatam and adopt the principles (of making the cows and bulls happy) for the total happiness of humanity
- Liberty, happiness and all good fortune can be attained only by surrendering unto the Lord because He is full liberty, full happiness and full auspiciousness
- Living in the bodily conception, our idea of happiness is like that of a man in delirium. Some philosophers claim that this delirious condition of bodily identification should be cured by abstaining from all action
- Lord Buddha preached that there is no God and no soul, that this body is a combination of matter, and that when we dissolve this material combination, sensations of misery and happiness will no longer exist

- Maharaja Yudhisthira said: My dear brother (Arjuna), please tell me whether our friends and relatives, such as Madhu, Bhoja, Dasarha, Arha, Satvata, Andhaka and the members of the Yadu family are all passing their days in happiness
- Man is attached to many miserable conditions, but nevertheless he accepts his condemned position as one of happiness. Sense enjoyment is so strong for such a person that he cannot give it up, exactly as a worm in stool cannot give up the stool
- Man's happiness is when he is situated in the mode of goodness. Then he can understand what true happiness is
- Material thing, you take this side or that side - there is no question of happiness. When you become brahma-bhutah, spiritually realized, then there is happiness
- Materialistic life means continuous unhappiness, but sometimes we accept happiness as it appears between the gaps
- Maya's illusion, we are taking this miserable condition of life as happiness. This is called maya. But there is no happiness in this material world. Everything miserable

- Mother Yasoda sometimes enjoyed transcendental ecstasy in happiness when her child was saved from a dangerous situation, such as being attacked by Putana or some other demon
- My (the brahmana's) worshipable Lord has been Lord Ramacandra, and by chanting His holy name I received happiness. Because I received such happiness, I chanted the holy name of Lord Rama day and night
- My dear friends born of demoniac families, the happiness perceived with reference to the sense objects by contact with the body can be obtained in any form of life, according to one's past fruitive activities
- My dear Prahlada, while you are in this material world you will exhaust all the reactions of pious activity by feeling happiness, and by acting piously you will neutralize impious activity
- My dear Priyavrata, by the order of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, all living entities accept different types of bodies for birth and death, activity, lamentation, illusion, fear of future dangers, and happiness and distress
- My dear Raghunatha dasa, your father and his elder brother are just like worms in stool in the ditch of material enjoyment, for the great disease of the poison of material enjoyment is what they consider happiness

- Narada Muni asked Pracinabarhisat: My dear King, what do you desire to achieve by performing these fruitive activities? The chief aim of life is to get rid of all miseries & enjoy happiness, but these two things cannot be realized by fruitive activity
- Naturally a child, he thinks, "I am safe now with my mother." But the Kali-yuga is so cruel that even with mother you are not safe. And still you say it is a place of happiness? This is called illusion. It is not place
- Nivrttya means that the living entity keeps his individuality; oneness means that he realizes happiness in the happiness of the Supreme Lord. In the Supreme Lord there is nothing but happiness
- No one is happy here within the universe, and what is felt as happiness is maya's illusion. The illusory energy of the Lord is so strong that even the hog who lives on filthy stool feels happy
- Nor does he (one who doesn't accept the Vedic rules and regulations) attain happiness or liberation from the material condition
- Not satisfying Lord Visnu but instead attempting to become happy through material adjustments (bahir-artha-maninau) is the wrong way for happiness
- Not to speak of going to the moon, even if one is promoted to the highest planetary system, Brahmaloka, there cannot be any happiness in this material world
- Now that loving propensity can attain its perfection, and as soon as you reach that perfectional point, you become happy. This is the formula for happiness

- O devotees, may the transcendental life and characteristics of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu always be heard, chanted and meditated upon with great happiness
- O Dharma, whatever you have inquired from me shall be known to you. I shall try to reply to all those questions. Once you too were maintained by your four legs, and you increased happiness all over the universe by the mercy of the Lord

- O rivers, wives of the ocean, we see that the ocean does not give you happiness. Thus you have almost dried up, and you no longer bear beautiful lotuses. The lotuses have become skinny, and even in the sunshine they are devoid of all pleasure
- O sinless one, the mode of goodness, being purer than the others, is illuminating, and it frees one from all sinful reactions. Those situated in that mode develop knowledge, but they become conditioned by the concept of happiness. BG 14.6 - 1972
- On the contrary, one is only aggravated by such activities. Please, therefore, give us directions on how one should live for real happiness
- On the streets we meet many friends who are similarly poverty-stricken. Sometimes those who are a little better off than we are direct us toward some progressive stage of life, but actually we do not derive any happiness from such directions

- One in goodness attains higher planetary systems, like Brahmaloka or Janaloka, and there enjoys godly happiness. BG 1972 purports
- One must take to Krsna consciousness to become really happy; otherwise happiness is impossible
- One should look unto the Lord; one should not be disturbed by the so-called manifestations of happiness or distress, but he should try to cooperate with the Lord in His outward activities for correcting the fallen souls
- One who acts in the mode of goodness is religious and happy, one who acts in passion achieves mixed misery and happiness, and one who acts under the influence of ignorance is always unhappy and lives like an animal
- One who disregards the injunctions of the sastras and acts whimsically, as he likes, never achieves the perfection of life, not to speak of happiness. Nor does he return home to the spiritual world
- One who is envious of or inimical towards others never experiences any happiness
- One who is giving Krsna consciousness, he is the real friend of the world. All others, leading to the external energy, they cannot give any happiness to this human society. That is the explanation given by Prahlada Maharaja
- One who is ignorant of scientific knowledge of the spirit soul does not look inside the body to find happiness in the soul
- One who is interested in Visnu and in showing the path of Visnu is the real friend. One who is giving Krsna consciousness is the real friend of the world. No others can give happiness to human society. That is the explanation given by Prahlada Maharaja
- One who is not disturbed in spite of the threefold miseries, who is not elated when there is happiness, and who is free from attachment, fear and anger, is called a sage of steady mind. BG 2.56 - 1972
- One who is not in transcendental consciousness can have neither a controlled mind nor steady intelligence, without which there is no possibility of peace. And how can there be any happiness without peace? BG 2.66 - 1972
- One who understands this (comfort in life is but illusion) factually is learned, and such a learned person can sacrifice any amount of material happiness to achieve the desired goal known as brahma-sukham, or absolute happiness
- One whose happiness is within, who is active and rejoices within, and whose aim is inward is actually the perfect mystic. He is liberated in the Supreme, and ultimately he attains the Supreme
- One whose happiness is within, who is active within, who rejoices within and is illumined within, is actually the perfect mystic. He is liberated in the Supreme, and ultimately he attains the Supreme. BG 5.24 - 1972
- One's tribulation in material existence continues. A sane man should be perfectly aware that these things will never be able to give him happiness
- Opposing princes continued, "As puppets dance in the hands of a magician, we are all dancing by the will of the Supreme, and according to His plan alone we suffer distress or enjoy happiness. We should therefore be equipoised in all circumstances"
- Others, who are bewildered by fruitive activities, either by Vedic injunction or by customary dealings, and who do not take to devotional service, are captivated by the external happiness of the bodily concept of life
- Otherwise (if we don't surrender to Krsna), in the name of happiness, we shall continue to suffer miserable conditions
- Our activities are conditioned, not free. But you can attain a life of freedom, life of unlimited energy, unlimited happiness, unlimited bliss. There is possibility. This is not story or fiction

- Pariksit Maharaja knew perfectly well how to conduct his administration for everyone's happiness because he was a devotee of the Lord - men, animals, plants and all living creatures. He was not selfishly interested
- Past happiness and present happiness are merely dreams. The actual reality is Krsna and service to Krsna, which can save us from the clutches of maya
- People are attached to household life for sex only. They are always harassed in many ways by their material engagements, and their only happiness is that after working very hard all day, at night they sleep and indulge in sex
- People are doing like that. They are eating in the morning and working very hard whole day, and in the evening again he becomes hungry and eats more sumptuously. That is his happiness
- People are paying money to attend some classes in gymnastic exercises and deep-breathing, and they're happy if they think they can lengthen their lifetimes by a few years or enjoy better sex life
- People are suffering because of ignorance and are following a wrong path for happiness. This is called anartha. These material activities will never make them happy, and Narada instructed Vyasadeva to record the instructions of Srimad-Bhagavatam
- People are thinking that God is dead, or that we have no obligation to God, or that there is no God. This sort of thinking will never make for happiness
- People are working hard day and night for the illusory happiness of the body. This is not a way to achieve happiness. One has to get out of this material entanglement and return home, back to Godhead. That is real happiness
- People began to blaspheme him (Indra), saying, This person has killed a brahmana for the sake of enjoying heavenly material happiness
- People must stop this cow killing, the greatest sin. They should divert their tendency for happiness differently than by killing and drinking
- Philosophers like Jaimini and his followers establish that fruitive activity is the root cause of all distress and happiness, and that even if there is a superior authority, some superhuman powerful God or gods
- Physical senses cannot actually cannot give you the greatest happiness. Just like a man is sensuous. So he can enjoy one woman, two women, but he cannot enjoy unlimitedly
- Pingala was a prostitute who said, "To hope against hope produces only misery. Utter hopelessness is the greatest happiness"
- Politics means planning for one's own happiness. That is politics. So in our society there should be no diplomacy, no politics
- Prabuddha tells Maharaj Nimi, "My dear King, please know for certain that in the material world there is no happiness. It is simply a mistake to think that there is happiness here, because this place is full of nothing but miserable conditions"
- Prahlada Maharaja continued: My dear friends born of demoniac families, the happiness perceived with reference to the sense objects by contact with the body can be obtained in any form of life, according to one's past fruitive activities
- Prahlada prayed to Nrsimhadeva, "I now consider the happiness of brahmananda to be no more than the water in the impression left by a cow's hoof in the earth, compared to this ocean of bliss"
- Premanjana-cchurita. Therefore our happiness, our real position, is to convert or transfer this service to Krsna, or God. That is our business. And when you transfer your service to Krsna, or God, you are serving
- Pure living entity feels happiness by the happiness of the Supreme Lord
- Purposely I have married so many couples, boys and girls, just to see them happy. Without happiness, without being in good mood of mind, you cannot prosecute Krsna consciousness
R
- Rajo-guna, tamo-guna - directly distress. And sattva-guna, there is little taste of happiness, but that is not complete happiness. The complete happiness is that sattva-guna without any touch of rajo-guna and tamo-guna. That is transcendental
- Ramananda Raya is extremely aware of transcendental mellows. He is incessantly absorbed in the happiness of ecstatic love of Krsna. It is he who has taught Me all this
- Real happiness can be achieved in the spiritual world. Not in the material world. So certain amount of happiness and certain amount of distress we have to enjoy and suffer. You cannot change it. This is the law of nature in this material world

- Sacimata said, "It will be a great happiness for me if Nimai (Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu) stays here. But at the same time, if someone blames Him, it will be my great unhappiness"
- Sense of advanced happiness in conditioned life makes them (the scientist and philosopher) bound by the mode of goodness of material nature. BG 1972 purports
- Sense of happiness is due to understanding that, in the mode of goodness, one is more or less free from sinful reactions. BG 1972 purports
- Service to My lover is the home of happiness and is more sweet than direct union with Him
- Sex life is compared to the rubbing of two hands to relieve an itch. Grhamedhis, so-called grhasthas who have no spiritual knowledge, think that this itching is the greatest platform of happiness
- Sex life they are every day enjoying. And still, they go to the naked dance to see if there is happiness. Why there will be happiness? There cannot be any happiness. But this is adjustment. They are trying this way or that way. That's all
- She (the woman) clearly says that the yatis, the transcendentalists, who are concerned only with spiritual life (kaivalya), cannot imagine the happiness of pravrtti-marga
- Simply by seeing Him, I am feeling great happiness. Oh, I have wasted so much time trying to become self-realized through impersonal cultivation. This is a cause for lamentation
- Simply cultivating knowledge that materialistic activities cannot give one happiness, and that one should consequently cease from such activities, is insufficient
- Since the Lord is the supreme enjoyer of everything in or outside the universe, it is happiness to be employed by Him
- Sivananda Sena also supplied food to all the devotees and took care of them along the way. In this way, feeling great happiness, he went to see Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu at Jagannatha Puri
- Sivananda Sena managed the payment of tolls at different places. Maintaining everyone, he guided all the devotees in great happiness
- So generally the karmis, they want happiness in this life, and if he is intelligent enough, if he believes in the next life, then he makes some provision for next life
- So happiness, unless Krsna gives, there is no question of happiness. Our business should be that we may not be uncomfortably living which will disturb our progress of Krsna consciousness
- So it is our humble attempt only, this Krsna consciousness movement. At least, we inform people that "This is the way of happiness." Sukham atyantikam yat tat
- So let us become submissive and prosecute this, the process of devotional service. That is the way of happiness
- So long he is not self-realized, he will try to become something, and so long he'll try to become something, then there will be restlessness. There cannot be happiness
- So many nationalists, economists and other ambitious persons have tried for happiness, individually or collectively, but history proves that they have all been frustrated
- So we are simply repeating the same thing. We do not question whether this process of life can at all give us happiness. But we are trying and trying, trying the same thing
- Sometimes he used to go to his private home with one of his chief servants (the mind), who was named Visucina. At that time, illusion, satisfaction and happiness used to be produced from his wife and children
- Sreya means ultimate good. If you act in such a way that ultimately you actually become happy, that is called sreya. And if you want immediately some happiness - never mind what it will be in future - that is called preya
- Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu came there and sat down at His place. Seeing this, Raghava Pandita felt increasing happiness

- Sri Narada informs foolish fruitive workers how to realize the reality of happiness. He gives direction to the diseased men of the world how one's present engagement can lead one to the path of spiritual emancipation
- Sri Nityananda Raya, Jagadananda, Damodara Pandita and Mukunda all became ecstatic in their happiness, and dancing along the way, they went to meet the Lord

- The reason for this (after increasing the standard of life to the highest capacity, yet we will be unhappy) is that the quality of happiness which is suitable for our constitution is different from the happiness which is derived from material activities
- The relationship with the Lord is never broken; thus there is no grief and no fear. Such happiness is inexplicable by words, and there can be no attempt to generate such happiness by fruitive activities by arrangements and sacrifices
- The renouncers of the world, the sannyasis, give up all worldly connections, namely, family, wife, children, friends, home, wealth - everything - to attain the transcendental bliss of Brahman happiness. But adhoksaja happiness is beyond Brahman happiness
- The result is that this bondage of birth and death, disease and old age comes to an end. This end is in union with the true identity, Krsna, the reservoir of pleasure and eternal bliss. There, indeed, is the true happiness for which we are intended
- The resultant actions of karma and jnana are so insignificant to a devotee situated on the transcendental platform that he is not in the least interested in them. Bhakti-yoga is sufficient to give the bhakta all happiness

- The ultimate purpose of sense gratification and the highest, topmost sense gratification is sex life. So we are trying, chewing, eschewing, you see, extracting. But that is not the process of happiness. The happiness is different
- The whole struggle is going on to minimize our miseries and to increase our happiness. That is our attempt. Everyone is working for that
- The whole Vedic scripture describes that happiness derived of sense perception out of the body, that is not real happiness. If we are to enjoy real happiness, then we have to transcend these bodily pleasures
- The wife of Srivasa Thakura whose name was Malini, accompanied by the wife of Candrasekhara (Acaryaratna) & other ladies came there in great happiness to worship the baby with paraphernalia such as vermilion, turmeric, oil, fused rice, bananas & coconuts

- There are different grades of material comforts in different heavenly planets, and in all cases there is immense happiness for persons engaged in different kinds of yajna. BG 1972 purports
- There are different kinds and grades of living entities, and their conceptions and perceptions of happiness are also of all different types and grades
- There are different kinds of benedictions according to a person's demands. For karmis the best benediction is promotion to the higher planetary systems, where the duration of life is very long and the standard of living and happiness is very high
- There are three qualities in the material world: goodness, passion and ignorance. Because people are in the mode of passion, they love to work very hard. That hard work is considered happiness
- There is a saying, "The happiness of wealth is enjoyable by a person who has tasted the distress of poverty."
- There is a song in the Bengali language which states, "I constructed this home for happiness, but unfortunately there was a fire, and everything has now been burnt to ashes." This illustrates the nature of material happiness
- There is no need to waste time and energy fighting against distress or working very hard for happiness
- There is no use trying to counteract them (happiness or distress). The best thing is that one should endeavor to achieve salvation, and this prerogative is given only to man because of his developed condition of mental activities and intelligence
- There may be fireworks going on, and this may be happiness for someone but distress for us. Some people are thinking that these fireworks are very enjoyable, and we are thinking that they are very inconvenient. That is the material world
- Thereupon Lord Nityananda said, "Whatever You order is My duty, regardless of whether it results in happiness or unhappiness"
- These (many friends) people show us the paths of work, knowledge, meditation, mysticism, and various other ways also, but unfortunately none of them is able to give us that happiness for which we are ever hankering
- These rajarsis, they were great personalities. They were, although on the royal throne, they were not for luxury and tax collecting. No. They were just exactly like real father, always thinking of the happiness of the prajas. It was actual democracy
- They (materialistic men) want to make a plan to become happy in a place where there is no happiness. For false happiness they try to reach other planets, either by Vedic rituals or by spacecraft
- They (persons who are a little above gross materialists) try to accumulate something for the next life by acts of virtue, just as a man banks some money for future happiness
- They (philosophers like Jaimini and his followers) say that action is not independent because action is performed by some performer; therefore, the performer himself is the cause of his own happiness or distress
- They actually want to be free from the confinement of this world of conditional happiness, but not knowing the process of liberation, they are bound to transmigrate from one species of life to another and from one planet to another
- They are all mad with that happiness, and they know nothing else
- They enjoyed celestial happiness, with open hearts full of love and affection for the Lord, and when they saw the face of the Lord, it seemed to them that they were drinking nectar through their eyes
- They heard confidential narrations about Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu from the mouth of Jagadananda Pandita and forgot themselves in the great happiness of hearing about the Lord
- They think that anyone's activity, even that of the Personality of Godhead, is mundane. But the idea of happiness indicated here (SB 3.6.37) is different because it relates to the activities of the Supreme Personality, who has transcendental qualities
- This (SB 7.13.29) is an accurate example depicting how the living entity, because of lack of knowledge, runs after happiness outside his own self
- This (SB 7.15.50) is explained in Bhagavad-gita (BG 9.21): When those who follow the pravrtti-marga have enjoyed heavenly sense pleasure, they return to this mortal planet again. Thus, through the Vedic principles, they achieve only flickering happiness
- This (thinking that sex indulgence is the greatest happiness) is generally found everywhere, and specifically found in the Western world, where there are regular arrangements to satisfy sex life in different ways. However, this has not made anyone happy
- This is an instance of feeling happiness because of achieving a desired goal
- This is indicated by Krsna in Bhagavad-gita: That which in the beginning may be just like poison, but at the end is like nectar, and which awakens one to self-realization, is said to be happiness in the mode of goodness - BG 18.37
- This material world is certified by the Supreme Personality of Godhead as the place of misery. Now, if this place is made for that purpose, just to give us miseries only, how you can make it a place of happiness
- This material world is the world of duality, and we cannot understand happiness without distress or distress without happiness. This is therefore called the relative world
- This transcendental achievement (love of Krsna) is so greatly valuable that no material happiness can compare to it
- Those who are devoted to the cause of the Personality of Godhead live only for the welfare, development and happiness of others. They do not live for any selfish interest
- Those who are materialistic, however, who are very proud of material wealth and have no spiritual knowledge, like the prakrta-sahajiyas, regard their own happiness as the aim of life
- Those who are practicing Krsna consciousness are not in need of the material opulences - wives, children, happiness, home - for all is acquired automatically by the grace of Krsna
- Those who are trying for going to the heavenly planet for enjoying life more and more, increasing happiness, they are also wasting time. And the whole system of dharma is like that, increasing happiness and decreasing distress
- Those who, out of gross ignorance, do not worship the king, who is actually the Supreme Personality of Godhead, experience happiness neither in this world nor in the world after death
- Three kinds of happiness
- Thus the great sages, Sanaka, Sanatana, Sanandana and Sanat-kumara, upon reaching the above-mentioned Vaikuntha in the spiritual world by dint of their mystic yoga performance, perceived unprecedented happiness
- To love your home, to love your country, to love your husband, to love your children, to love your wife, so on, you go on, all this love, more or less they are all in the animal kingdom also. But that sort of love will not give you happiness
- Trees and vegetables are essential, and they give happiness all year round, in all seasons. That is the arrangement in Vrndavana. It is not that in one season the trees are pleasing and in another season not pleasing
- True happiness

- Uddhava addresses Lord Krsna and says, "Although happiness from these different sources can be very easily had by them. In spite of such facilities, my dear Lord, I do not aspire to achieve any such results"
- Unadulterated love is exemplified when the lover deprecates her happiness if it hinders her from discharging her service
- Unfortunately, at the present moment so-called philanthropists and humanitarians advocate the happiness of humanity at the cost of the lives of poor animals. That is not recommended herein - SB 6.10.9
- Unfortunately, when eternal relationship is disturbed, the living entity wants to become separately happy and thinks that the master is his order supplier. In this way there cannot be happiness
- Unless one is able to relish happiness from within, how can one retire from the external engagements meant for deriving superficial happiness? BG 1972 purports
- Upon seeing all the Vaisnavas together, Kasi Misra and the superintendent became very happy. With great happiness they met with the devotees in a befitting manner
- Upon seeing the child (the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Vamanadeva), Prajapati Kasyapa exclaimed, "Jaya! Jaya!" in great happiness and wonder
- Utsava, the expression of complete happiness, is always present in the Vaikunthalokas, the abode of the Lord, who is worshipable even by demigods like Brahma, to say nothing of other, less important entities such as human beings

- Very expert swimming, but that does not mean happiness. Similarly, here, in the ocean of nescience, all these rascals are swimming. They are making plans to become happy, but they are not happy
- Vipralambha serves as a nourishing element for future meetings. When the lover and beloved meet all of a sudden and embrace one another, they feel an ecstasy of happiness, and the state of mind they experience in that ecstasy is called sambhoga
- Visvavasu and Paravasu, the two chiefs of the Gandharvas, sang in great happiness. The kettledrums of the demigods sounded, and the Apsaras danced in jubilation
- Vrtrasura prayed "I do not want the facilities for happiness on Brahmaloka, Svargaloka or even Dhruvaloka, not to speak of this earth or the lower planets. I simply want to return home, back to Godhead." This is the determination of a pure devotee

- We are all after happiness, but we do not know how to enjoy happiness. We want to enjoy our senses, but it is not possible with these covered false senses. The senses must be opened, and that is the process of purification
- We are all seeking happiness, but because of our ignorance and foolishness, we cannot know what unobstructed happiness really is
- We are already destined to have a certain amount of happiness and a certain amount of distress, and we cannot change that. The change we should make, therefore, is to get free from this material condition of life. That should be our only business
- We are looking for happiness. Are you looking for distress? "No, sir." Then why does distress come upon you? If you are not eager for calamities and distress, why do they come upon you
- We are sometimes in difficulty. Not sometimes. Always, we are in difficulty, but we call it sometimes, because to get over the difficulty, we make some attempt, and that attempt - making is taken as happiness
- We are thinking that we are very happy within this material world, although in addition to these threefold miseries there is also birth, old age, disease and death. So where is our happiness
- We are thinking, "Let me go a little further. There will be water eventually. There will eventually be happiness." Yet there is no water in the desert
- We are trying to adjust things to become happy, but we are so foolish that we do not know there cannot be any happiness. This is called ignorance
- We are trying to conquer over the stringent laws of material nature, and that labor, that useless spoiling of life, we are thinking that we are . . . this is happiness. This is called maya
- We fail to measure the sky, but the happiness and liberty obtained in association with the Lord are far greater than the sky. That spiritual happiness is so great that it cannot be measured, even by the Lord Himself, not to speak of others
- We must also know that happiness, unbroken happiness exchanged with the Supreme Person, the Personality of Godhead as described in this verse (SB 2.7.47), transcends the impersonal conception of the Upanisads
- We should know that our happiness is in returning home, back to Godhead, where we can eat, drink and be merry in Krsna's company
- We should not aspire for happiness, or regret distress; we must be satisfied with the position allotted to us by the Lord
- We want money to become happy, but if we take to Krsna consciousness, automatically we will become so happy that we will neglect money. Money will automatically come. Happiness will come. There is no need to endeavor for these things separately
- We want unending blissful life, but it is not possible in the material world That happiness is in the spiritual world
- What we are searching after? He has summarized that we are searching after happiness. That's a fact. But we do not know where the happiness is there
- Whatever they may do in their official class, they remain the same foolish rascals. But our Krsna conscious students will feel a change in their lives, a change in happiness, and a change in youth, also. This is reality
- When a person is confused by simultaneous happiness and tribulation and does not know what to do, this state of confusion is called pralaya, or devastation
- When Akrura came to take Krsna and Balarama to Mathura, just by seeing Their faces he became so cheerful that all over his body there were symptoms of ecstatic love. This state is called happiness
- When Krsna is going to Mathura, all the gopis become very, very distressed, crying. But we cannot understand what is the happiness of that distress. That we cannot understand from this material point of view. That is greatest happiness
