Theme Analysis

The innate tendency of every living entity is to praise and glorify, but the object of that glorification determines one's spiritual destiny. According to Śrīla Prabhupāda, mundane people waste this natural propensity by glorifying politicians, material scientists, or temporary cosmic manifestations. However, any literature, poetry, or speech devoid of the glorification of the Supreme Personality of Godhead is considered useless—a mere decoration of a dead body. True intelligence and the perfection of life are achieved only when one redirects this propensity to glorify the name, form, qualities, and pastimes of Lord Kṛṣṇa. This process is technically known as kīrtana.

Because Kṛṣṇa is absolute, He is non-different from His glorification. Therefore, whenever the Lord is sincerely glorified, He is personally present in the form of transcendental sound vibration. This sound acts as the ultimate medicine for the conditioned soul suffering from the disease of material existence. The simple act of glorifying God, even if done in broken or grammatically imperfect language, immediately cleanses the heart of lusty desires and extinguishes the blazing fire of repeated birth and death. The history of Ajāmila proves that even unintentional or incomplete glorification—simply chanting the holy name—is sufficient to eradicate a lifetime of sinful reactions.

Glorifying God is not limited to musical chanting; it encompasses preaching, writing books, and utilizing all of one's talents in the Lord's service. A true mahātmā engages twenty-four hours a day in this divine broadcasting, eager to distribute the Lord's glories to the suffering humanity. Śrīla Prabhupāda emphasizes that this is the universal religion for the Age of Kali. Whether one is a Hindu, Christian, or Muslim, the common platform for all humanity is the congregational glorification of the Supreme Lord. By adopting this sublime process, the practitioner transcends all material designations and prepares to enter the spiritual sky, where the liberated souls are eternally absorbed in the blissful glorification of the Lord.

  • The Proper Object of Praise: The natural propensity to glorify must be directed toward the Supreme Personality of Godhead; mundane glorification is useless.
  • The Supreme Medicine: Glorifying God through kīrtana is the only effective remedy for the material disease, instantly cleansing the heart of sinful reactions.
  • The Absolute Nature of Kīrtana: Because the Lord and His name are identical, sincere glorification invokes the direct, personal presence of God.
  • The Universal Platform: Glorifying the Lord is the non-sectarian, recommended process for spiritual perfection in the modern age, culminating in eternal liberation.
