The philosophical essence of this category provides a comprehensive explanation of the origin, mechanics, and purpose of the entire material universe. According to the Vedānta-sūtra, the Supreme Personality of Godhead is the original cause of all causes (janmādy asya yataḥ), and the cosmic manifestation is simply a by-product of His inconceivable energies. While materialistic scientists and philosophers invent flawed theories—such as the universe bursting from a "chunk" or being a false illusion—the Vaiṣṇava understanding confirms that the cosmos is a real, purposeful emanation. Its primary purpose is not for the living entities to falsely lord over it, but to provide them a structured chance to revive their Kṛṣṇa consciousness and return back home, back to Godhead. Ultimately, the entire cosmic manifestation emanates from the Lord, is maintained by Him, and rests within Him at the time of cosmic annihilation.
- The Original Cause: The cosmic manifestation is not an independent accident. The Supreme Personality of Godhead is the absolute source from which everything emanates. Although everything rests upon Him, He remains personally aloof from the material elements.
- The Puruṣa Expansions: The mechanical process of creation is carried out by Lord Viṣṇu. Mahā-Viṣṇu creates the material and efficient causes, Garbhodakaśāyī Viṣṇu becomes the source of universal progenitors, and Kṣīrodakaśāyī Viṣṇu activates matter by entering every atom.

- The Supreme Lord, Vasudeva, who created the cosmic manifestation, exhibits Himself as all-pervading, like the sky that holds clouds. When the creation is annihilated, everything enters into the Supreme Lord, Visnu, & varieties are no longer manifested
- The Supreme Personality of Godhead has multipotencies (parasya saktir vividhaiva sruyate (CC Madhya 13.65, purport)). Therefore, as soon as He likes, He uses one of His potencies, and by that expansion He creates this cosmic manifestation
