Category:God Is The Enjoyer

Theme Analysis

The philosophical essence of this category establishes that the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa or Viṣṇu, is the ultimate, absolute enjoyer (puruṣa) of all creations, sacrifices, and activities. Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that the fundamental disease of the conditioned soul is the false desire to imitate God and become an independent enjoyer. However, the constitutional position of all living entities and material manifestations is that of prakṛti (the predominated energy), which is meant solely for the enjoyment of the supreme predominator. Just as the stomach is the central enjoyer of the food gathered by the limbs of the body, the Supreme Lord is the central enjoyer of the cosmic manifestation. True liberation and lasting peace are achieved only when the living entity abandons the false mentality of proprietorship and happily cooperates in serving the transcendental enjoyment of the Supreme Lord.

  • The Supreme Puruṣa: God is the original male, the supreme predominator (puruṣa), and the ultimate enjoyer. All His energies, including the material nature and the living entities, are feminine (prakṛti) and are meant to be enjoyed by Him.
  • The Master of Sacrifice: The Supreme Personality of Godhead is the ultimate beneficiary and enjoyer of all sacrifices (bhoktāraṁ yajña-tapasām). Any fruitive work or sacrifice performed for personal sense gratification only leads to material bondage.
  • The Central Stomach: Just as the stomach receives food and distributes energy to the rest of the body, the Supreme Lord is the central enjoyer of the universe. When He is satisfied, all the living entities are automatically satisfied.
  • The Cure for Material Existence: The root cause of material conditioning is the living entity's false desire to be the enjoyer. Real peace and liberation are attained the moment one practically realizes that God is the sole proprietor, the ultimate enjoyer, and the supreme friend.
