Theme Analysis
Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that the defining characteristic of the demoniac mentality is the deep-seated, envious desire to kill the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Unable to rise to the standard of pure devotion, atheists and asuras desperately want to eliminate Kṛṣṇa so they can falsely declare that God is dead, nonexistent, or merely an impersonal force. Throughout Vedic history, from the aggressive rage of Hiraṇyakaśipu to the systematic plots of Kaṁsa, this specific class of men has constantly sought to attack the Lord. However, their attempts are completely foolish because the Supreme Spirit is eternal and can never be annihilated. Even when formidable demons like the witch Pūtanā formulated elaborate plans to assassinate the infant Kṛṣṇa with deadly poison, the Lord easily thwarted them. Yet, the most astounding aspect of these pastimes is Kṛṣṇa's supreme, causeless mercy. Because the Lord is absolute, He takes the bright side of any interaction; thus, even a demoniac witch who wanted to kill Him was granted immediate salvation and elevated to the exalted position of His mother in the spiritual world.
- The Demoniac Spirit: Atheists and demons are constantly driven by an envious desire to kill God so they can comfortably claim He is dead, nonexistent, or impersonal.
- Eternal Futility: Demons like Kaṁsa and Rāvaṇa foolishly attempt to assassinate the Lord, completely ignorant of the fact that the Supreme Spirit is eternal and can never be destroyed.
- Historical Envy: Since the dawn of creation, from Hiraṇyakaśipu's wrath to the wizards engaged by Kaṁsa, there has always been a section of men aggressively trying to attack the Lord's personal form.
- The Absolute Nature of Kṛṣṇa: When Pūtanā attempted to kill the child Kṛṣṇa with deadly poison, the Lord playfully defeated her plot, easily extracting her life air while simultaneously accepting her breast milk.
- Causeless Mercy: Demonstrating His unparalleled kindness, Kṛṣṇa accepts the essence of any offering; thus, He granted the murderous witch Pūtanā the ultimate liberation of becoming His mother in the spiritual realm.
