- Apara prakrti, or the inferior, material energy
- Everyone is prakrti
- In this material world both the so-called man and so-called woman are imitating the real purusa; the Supreme Personality of Godhead is actually the enjoyer in the transcendental sense, whereas all others are prakrti
- Krsna is purusa, and we are prakrti
- Krsna is the real husband of all living entities, who are described as prakrti (female), not purusa (male)
- Prakrti as this material world
- Prakrti is feminine gender and Purusa is masculine gender
- Prakrti means controlled
- Prakrti means energy
- Prakrti means enjoyed
- Prakrti means nature
- Prakrti means predominated
- Prakrti means subordinate

- A child is begotten by the combination of prakrti, the enjoyed, and purusa, the enjoyer. In the same way, whatever we see in the phenomenal world is produced by this combination of ksetra and ksetrajna
- A living entity is not purusa; he is prakrti. But because he wanted to enjoy this material world, nature has given him a dress like a purusa, and he is falsely trying to enjoy it. This is the position
- A man, thinking of enjoying himself, tries to imitate purusa, but actually he is prakrti. As a consequence, he is cast into this material world
- Absolute Truth is Radha-Krsna, the same purusa and prakrti. But Radharani is the servitor, serving. Radharani is so expert that She always attracts Krsna by Her service. This is Radharani's position
- According to Bhagavad-gita, the living entities, although they are parts and parcels of the Supreme Lord, they are taken as prakrti
- According to the association of guna, or quality, prakrti gives you a certain type of body. The body is given by prakrti, by nature. Therefore, nature is called mother, Durga
- According to this Vedic injunction (Mundaka Upanisad 1.3), simply by understanding Krsna one understands Brahman, Paramatma, prakrti, the illusory energy, the spiritual energy and everything else. Everything will be revealed
- Akrti, prakrti. The form and the activities
- All living entities act exactly according to the directions of prakrti, material nature, because in the material world we are fully under a higher control
- Although Krsna is the Supreme Lord and is unborn and unchangeable, He appears in His original transcendental nature. The word prakrti means - nature
- Although prakrti and purusa superficially appear to be the causes of the material manifestation, both are emanations of different energies of the Supreme Lord. Therefore the Supreme Lord is the cause of prakrti and purusa. He is the original cause
- Although she has got the body of being enjoyed, but she has the mentality of enjoying. Therefore everyone is described, although by nature everyone is prakrti, not purusa
- Although the living entities are Krsna’s parts and parcels, they are prakrti, not purusa
- Although we are also prakrti, we are now in the mentality of purusa. Just like in this material world, man and woman
- An example of this (enjoyer and enjoyed) relationship can be found in the material world between the husband and the wife: the husband is the enjoyer (purusa), and the wife is the enjoyed (prakrti)
- And for His material creative energies, He (the Lord) is served by four, namely the principles of prakrti, purusa, mahat-tattva and ego
- Arjuna said: O my dear Krsna, I wish to know about prakrti (nature), Purusa (the enjoyer), and the field and the knower of the field, and of knowledge and the end of knowledge. BG 13.1-2 - 1972
- Arjuna was inquisitive about prakrti or nature, purusa, the enjoyer, ksetra, the field, ksetrajna, its knower, and of knowledge and the object of knowledge. When he inquired about all these, Krsna said that this body is called the field. BG 1972 purports
- As soon as you give up this body, immediately prakrti will take charge. Take charge means the prakrti will test what is the mentality at the time of your death, and he will give you a body like that, automatically
- At that time (during death) the fragmental portion (jivatma) comes under the dictation of material nature, and prakrti (nature) gives us the type of body for which we are fit
- Atheists believe in the atheistic Sankhya philosophy of the combination of prakrti and purusa
B
- Because everyone is under the grip of prakrti, material nature, how he can change? It is not possible. So that is the mistake of the modern civilization. They do not know that by passing laws or giving some moral instruction, we cannot change the habits
- Because people are becoming more and more in the modes of darkness, they are eating so many abominable things. And prakrti also, I mean to say, minimizing the supply of sattvika food. Just like nowadays it has become scarcity of grains, of milk, of sugar
- Because prakrti (material nature) is dull and inert, it cannot actually be the cause of the material world. Lord Krsna shows His mercy by infusing His energy into the dull, inert material nature
- Because we are conditioned, we are under illusion. Although we are prakrti, we are thinking that we are purusa. But actually we are not purusa. We are also prakrti
- Being influenced by the three modes of material nature, the living entity tries to dominate material nature, but actually he is not the purusa (enjoyer) but prakrti, as described in Bhagavad-gita (BG 7.5): apareyam itas tv anyam prakrtim viddhi me param
- Being under the clutches of this prakrti, whatever little light was there as part and parcel of God, that is now covered. So this position has to be discovered or this covering has to be taken away, then we come to our position, original position
- Bhagavad-gita deals with Prakrti (material nature) and time (the duration of existence of the whole universe or the manifestation of material nature) and karma (activity). BG 1972 Introduction
- Bhinna prakrtir astadha. Just like I am speaking, it is being recorded, recorded. But in my absence, if the record is played, it will exactly vibrate the same sound. So that is my energy or anyone's energy, but bhinna, separated from me
- Both the living entity and material nature are explained as prakrti, the energy of the Supreme Lord, but one of the two, the jiva, is conscious. The other prakrti is not conscious. That is the difference. BG 1972 Introduction
- Both the prakrti and purusa, which are inferior and superior energies, are emanations from the Supreme Personality of Godhead
- Brahma was generated from rajo-guna of prakrti, or the mode of passion in nature, and Visnu became the Lord of the mode of goodness
- By chance he gets one animal and jumps over it. This is called prakrti-jan gunan. He thought, "By becoming tiger I shall be very much proud of enjoying," but prakrti says, - No, sir, you cannot get even daily food. That is not possible
- By the cooperation of material nature, which is considered to be prakrti, and the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is considered the purusa, all the affairs of the universe are going on nicely in their proper order
C
- Caitanya Mahaprabhu has said, "Any rascal" - of course, "rascal" he did not say; I say - that. "Anyone who considers the body of Krsna is prakrta" - prakrta means material - that is the greatest offense
- Conditioned souls means one who is identifying with this body, he is called conditioned soul. He is under the condition of this material nature, prakrti. So such persons cannot be perfect
E
- Either man or woman, everyone is prakrti. The real purusa is Krsna. And there is a nice example. When Rupa Gosvami was there in Vrndavana in his bhajana, Mirabhai went to see him. And Rupa Gosvami's message was that he does not see any woman
- Energy, prakrti. Krsna is engladdened in the presence of Radharani. That is nature. Similarly, a man, he becomes energized if he has got a good wife or good mother
- Everyone wants to take pleasure in his own knowledge, thinking, I know something. But in the presence of Krsna this conception cannot stand, for one cannot bring Krsna within the limitations of prakrti. One must submit. There is no alternative
- Everything - includes living entities and inert matter. Both matter and the living entities come from Krsna. Indeed, the whole world is a combination of matter and spirit, prakrti and the living entity
- Everything is perfectly being done by nature. Nature is appointed by Krsna. Krsna says in the Bhagavad-gita, mayadhyaksena prakrtih suyate sa-caracaram: "Under My control." So prakrti will work very nicely provided you are also nice, Krsna conscious
- External maya is exhibited in two phases - jiva-maya, the living entities, and guna-maya, the material world. In the material world there is prakrti (material nature) and pradhana (the ingredients of material nature)
F
- From Bhagavad-gita we must learn what God is, what the living entities are, what prakrti is, what the cosmic manifestation is and how it is controlled by time, and what the activities of the living entities are. BG 1972 Introduction
- From Bhagavad-gita we understand that there is another prakrti, or nature, which is real. This is explained by the Lord Himself in the Eighth Chapter of Bhagavad-gita - 8.19-21
- From prakrti, or material nature, come so many varieties of living entities, including aquatics, plants, trees, insects, birds, animals, human beings and demigods. prakrti is the mother, and the SPG is the father (aham bija-pradah pita) - BG 14.4
- From the root, according to sankhya philosophy, come prakrti, purusa, then the three gunas, then the five gross elements (panca-mahabhuta), then the ten senses (dasendriya), mind, etc. In this way they divide up the whole material world. BG 1972 purports
G
- God is purusa, male, not female. Purusa means "the enjoyer," and prakrti means "the enjoyed." Everything is enjoyed by the supreme purusa
- God is witnessing all our activities, and our mental situation. So He orders maya, the external energy, prakrti, that "He requires to be given a body like this," and the material nature gives the living entity a particular type of body
H
- He (Krsna) has no other business to carry out here because His agent prakrti does everything. Nonetheless, out of compassion Krsna comes in His original form or in an incarnation like Kapiladeva
- He (the living entity) is sometimes called prakrti, or jiva, for he is situated in the marginal potency. When the living entity is covered with the three modes of material nature, he is called jiva-samjnita
- He has come to this material world, prakrti, and . . . or mental concoction, he's creating his plan and struggling for existence. This is real suffering. So Krsna consciousness movement means to save him from real suffering
- Here all are living entities, they are prakrti. Actually they are prakrti, but they are falsely dressed as purusa. Falsely dressed
- How is she (Prakrti) working? Just like a shadow. Below our hand is its shadow, and as our hand moves, the shadow moves. Behind all manifestations there is motion. I have sometimes given the example of the shunting of the big cars in a railway line
- How long you shall remain American and Australian? That question does not come to the dull brain, because he does not know that he is eternal. And this is temporary dress. I . . . somehow or other, I wanted this, and prakrti, nature, has given me
- How woman can become in equal with man? Of course, we are not going to study the social welfare activities or something like that, but purusa and prakrti, they are different. Purusa means enjoyer, and prakrti means enjoyed
- Human beings are advanced living entities, and they have created modern civilization by utilizing dull, inert matter. This is our superiority. However, we are also prakrti as well as para prakrti. In this way, we have to understand tattva jnana
I
- Icchanurupam api yasya ca cestate sa. The Brahma-samhita (5.44) says that Prakrti, or Durga - the deity of material nature - is working under the direction of Govinda, Krsna
- If a woman dresses like a man and wants to act like man, that is artificial. That is not possible. Similarly, a living entity is not purusa; he is prakrti. But because he wanted to enjoy this material world, nature has given him a dress like a purusa
- If the king dies, his government is not stopped. We should remember that. That government is prakrti, the material nature. Prakrteh kriyamanani gunaih karmani sarvasah
- If we do not work according to the rules and regulation of nature, then we have to accept another body, and we do not know what kind of body you are going to accept. But it will be a gift by nature. Prakrteh kriyamanani
- In one sense everyone is purusa because purusa means enjoyer and prakrti means enjoyed
- In the avyakta stage, material nature is without varieties. Varieties are manifested by the pradhana portion of maya. The word pradhana is therefore more important than avyakta or prakrti
- In the beginning of the creation the material nature, or prakrti, is agitated by the Personality of Godhead, Visnu. There are three Visnus mentioned. One is Maha-Visnu, another is Garbhodakasayi Visnu, and the third is Ksirodakasayi Visnu
- In the Caitanya-caritamrta it is said that understanding prakrti, or nature, to be the cause of everything is like understanding the nipples on the neck of a goat to be the cause of milk
- In the darkness we cannot see anything. But if there is matches or candle, if the candle is ignited, then we can see. Similarly, guru's business is to open the eyes. To open the eyes means to give him knowledge that "You are not purusa. You are prakrti
- In the eleventh chapter of Bhagavad-gita, the Personality of Godhead, Sri Krsna, discusses the subject matter of ksetra, ksetrajna, and also prakrti (nature, or the phenomenal world, which is enjoyed) and purusa - the enjoyer of the phenomenal world
- In the human life, if we prepare ourselves by beginning the activity of our spiritual life, we return to our real life and attain perfection. Otherwise, according to karma, svabhava, prakrti and so on, our varieties of life and activity continue
- In the material existence we create different relationships with different living entities who are nothing but Krsna's marginal energy, but under the creation of prakrti some of them appear as our father, mother, grandfather, creator, etc. BG 1972 pur
- In the Sankhya philosophy the purusa is described to be always indifferent to the activities of prakrti
- In this material nature, everyone is struggling, prakrti-sthani karsati, with the mind and the senses. That's all. Compact, in the direction of the mind. Mano-dharma. Mano-dharma. So long we are directed by the flickering mind, then we are in danger
- In this material world, the mother, prakrti, which is material nature, supplies us with the body, and the Supreme Father impregnates this matter with living souls
- Isvara (the Supreme Lord), jiva (the living entity),prakrti (nature), eternal time and karma (activity) are all explained in the Bhagavad-gita. Out of these five, the Lord, the living entities, material nature and time are eternal. BG 1972 Introduction
- Isvara, jiva, prakrti. And then time - what is the time factor, past, present & future. & then there is karma, activity. These five things, primary principles of philosophical speculation or philosophical understanding, are very clearly stated in the BG
- It is clearly explained by Him (Lord Kapiladeva) that the Purusa, or the Supreme Lord, is active and that He creates by looking over the prakrti. This is accepted in the Vedas and in the Gita. BG 1972 purports
- It is stated that we are actually prakrti, not purusa. The human dress is simply maya, illusion. We are thinking that we are purusa, the enjoyer, but actually we are the enjoyed
- It is to be understood that the body is designated. Prakṛti is an interaction by the three modes of material nature, and according to these modes, someone has a small body, and someone has a very large body
K
- Karma is not eternal. Therefore we stated that of the five items (isvara, jiva, prakrti time and karma) four are eternal, whereas karma is not eternal. BG 1972 Introduction
- Karma is not eternal. Therefore we stated that of the five items (isvara, jiva, prakrti, time and karma) four are eternal, whereas karma is not eternal
- Krsna is not under the laws of nature; the laws of nature work under Him (mayadhyaksena prakrtih suyate sa-caracaram (BG 9.10)). Prakrti, nature, works under the order of Krsna, and we work under the order of nature
- Krsna is the cause of all causes. He is the cause of both the material and the effective causes. Prakrti and purusa are not the ultimate cause
- Krsna is the only purusa. But Krsna is not a purusa like us. We are within the prakrti. He is beyond the prakrti. Therefore His body is not material
- Krsna is the original purusa, and the living entities are prakrti. Thus Krsna is the enjoyer, and all living entities are meant to be enjoyed by Him
- Krsna orders prakrti, the material nature that, "He wants to enjoy in this way, you give him a suitable body like that." - He wants to enjoy by becoming a tiger: Immediately I shall jump over an animal
- Krsna says specifically in Bhagavad-gita that prakrti, maya, is working under His directions. Maya is the maidservant of Krsna, and if we are the servants of maya, how can we be Krsna, Bhagavan
- Krsna specifically says that we should not think that prakrti, nature, is working automatically. He says, - Nature is working under My direction
- Krsna's birth is transcendental. Our birth is by force, by the laws of nature. He's not under the laws of nature. The laws of nature works under Him. Mayadhyaksena prakrtih suyate sa-caracaram. Prakrti, nature is working under the order of Krsna
- Krsna, being the controller of both the prakrtis (para prakrti and apara prakrti), is thus the master of pradhana and purusa
L
- Like a police constable is working under the direction of magistrate or superior officer, similarly, prakrti is giving us various types of miserable condition of life directed by the Supreme Personality of Godhead
- Living entities are also prakrti, or enjoyed, but under the spell of maya, the living entities are falsely trying to take the position of enjoyers. That is the cause of samsara-bandha, or conditional life
- Lord Brahma takes advantage of the three modes of material nature. prakrti, material nature, is described here as tri-vrta, the source of the three material modes. Srila Madhvacarya comments in this connection that tri-vrta means prakrtya
- Lord Krsna is the original cause of the cosmic manifestation. prakrti is like the nipples on the neck of a goat, for they cannot give any milk
- Lord Vasudeva, or Krsna, is described in Bhagavad-gita as Purusottama. Actually He is the enjoyer (purusa) and the Supreme (uttama) as well. He is the enjoyer of everything - the prakrti and the purusa
M
- Mahatma has nothing to do with this material world; he is simply under the care of the transcendental prakrti
- Material existence, or the sense gratification process, is conducted according to the type of body we are given by prakrti, or material nature. As such, there must be divisions of pious and impious activities - punya and papa
- Material nature (prakrti) works under His order (the Supreme Personality of Godhead). How, then, can He be under the qualities of prakrti
- Material nature has no power to create without the power of the purusa, just as a prakrti, or woman, cannot produce a child without the connection of a purusa, or man. The purusa impregnates, and the prakrti delivers
- Material nature is not independant. She is acting under the directions of the Supreme Lord. As Lord Krsna says, "Prakrti is working under My direction." BG 1972 Introduction
- Material nature, prakrti, is enjoyable. Prakrti means enjoyable. And purusa, purusa means enjoyer
- Material varieties means when it is nonmanifested, it is called pradhana, and when it is manifested, it is called prakrti, or nature, material nature
- Maya has two varieties of existence. One is called pradhana or prakrti. It supplies the ingredients of the material world
- Mayadhyaksena prakrtih suyate sacaracaram: (BG 9.10) only under His (God's) direction does prakrti, or material nature, work. Similar information is given in the Brahma-samhita - BS 5.38
N
- Nature (prakrti) is so strong that no one can overcome her stringent laws
- Nature (prakrti) is so strong that no one can overcome her stringent laws. So-called scientists, philosophers, religionists and politicians should therefore conclude that they cannot offer facilities to the people in general
- Nature and the living entities are sometimes designated as prakrti and purusa respectively. The whole cosmic manifestation is an amalgamation of prakrti and purusa
- Nature's law is not ultimate. There is law maker, and that law maker is God. That is stated in the Bhagavad-gita, mayadhyaksena prakrtih suyate sa-caracaram (BG 9.10): "Prakrti," means nature - is working under My superintendence
- Never try to become the purusa or the master. That is very dangerous. Always remain prakrti. Prakrti means to be controlled or controlled, and purusa means the controller
- Now, according to Vedic rites, activities in the mode of goodness are considered auspicious for progress on the path of liberation, and such activities are known as deva prakrti, transcendental by nature. BG 1972 purports
O
- One has to understand the position of prakrti, nature, and purusa, the enjoyer of the nature, and isvara, the knower who dominates or controls nature and the individual soul. One should not confuse the three in their different capacities. BG 1972 purports
- One who has real knowledge knows that prakrti, material nature, is working under Krsna's direction. It is not possible to understand how all this is going on, but we can understand it in summary
- One who understands this, that this prakrti, this material nature, is working under the direction of Krsna, that is our real knowledge
- Only under the direction of the Lord, the Supreme Person, can prakrti, which is manifested in twenty-four elements, create different situations for the living entity
- Out of the six questions - ksetra, ksetra-jna, prakrti, purusa, jnanam, jneyam - He is answering the first two, pair
P
- People are becoming more and more in the modes of darkness, they are eating so many abominable things. And prakrti also, I mean to say, minimizing the supply of sattvika food
- Pradhana means subtle matter, such as ether. Purusa means the spiritual spark living entities who are entangled in that subtle material existence. These may also be described as para prakrti and apara prakrti, as stated in Bhagavad-gita
- Prakrteh kriyamanani gunaih karmani sarvasah: everything is being done by prakrti, material nature, under the direction of the Supreme Lord
- Prakrti can give us material bodies, but as spirit souls we are parts and parcels of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. This is confirmed in BG (15.7): The living entity, being part and parcel of God, is not a product of this material world
- Prakrti cannot actually be the cause of the material world because it's dull and inert. But Lord Krsna shows His mercy by infusing His energy into the dull, inert material nature
- Prakrti is always subordinate, predominated by the Lord, who is the predominator. BG 1972 Introduction
- Prakrti is eternal; it is not false. The Lord refers to this as "My prakrti." BG 1972 Introduction
- Prakrti is jada. Jada-prakrti. Jada-prakrti. Without any sense. The motor car has got the wheels, the machine, everything, but it has no sense. So unless there is a sensible driver there, it cannot move. Very plain truth. Anyone can understand
- Prakrti is very strong, material nature. The only solution is Krsna consciousness. Unless one comes to the Krsna consciousness platform, he cannot give up his habits. It is not possible
- Prakrti is working, interaction of two chemicals or many chemicals. They are accepting it that the chemicals were already there. But wherefrom the chemicals came? They say that hydrogen and oxygen mixed together
- Prakrti itself is constituted by three qualities: the mode of goodness, the mode of passion and the mode of ignorance. Above these modes there is eternal time. BG 1972 Introduction
- Prakrti means the instrument of enjoyment, prakrti, energy. Just like here we see one man is very big, rich man, but he's enjoyer by utilizing his energy. Similarly, the whole cosmic situation, whole creation is..., the supreme enjoyer is God
- Prakrti means this material world. We do not belong to this material world. Just like a person in the prison house, he is a citizen, but when he goes into the prisonhouse, he has got different sense, different, I mean, punishment, different dress
- Prakrti, by the energy of Lord Krsna, becomes the secondary cause (of creation), just as iron becomes red-hot by the energy of fire
- Prakrti, material nature, and purusa, the living entity, are eternal. When they both come in contact, there are different reactions and manifestations. All of them should be considered the results of the interaction of the three modes of material nature
- Prakrti, material nature, as directed by the Supreme Personality of Godhead, induces all living entities to create, maintain or annihilate according to the modes of nature
- Prakrti, nature, has three modes, and if one associates with one type of mode, one will receive his next body accordingly
- Prakrti, nature, will give you chance, "All right, you want this?" Mind... You are creating... Mind is the creating force
- Prakrti, nature, will offer the body, and there are so many varieties of body. So one should know at least what kind of body I'm going to get next. That is intelligence. And if he becomes other than human being, that is not very good proposal
- Prakrti, or material nature, is connected with both the Supreme Lord and the living entities, just as a woman is connected with her husband as a wife and with her children as a mother
- Prakrti, the material nature, is working under the direction of the Supreme Lord, and we living entities are being carried away by various phases of prakrti. For self-realization, one should always remember Krsna
- Prakrti, this material nature . . . in the Bhagavad-gita . . . it is working under the direction of the Supreme Lord. It is not blind. So there is some direction. It is very simple to understand
- Purusa means enjoyer, and prakrti means enjoyed, or, in simple word, purusa means male, and prakrti means female
- Purusa means the enjoyer. And prakrti means enjoyed. For enjoyment two things are required: one enjoyer, and the other enjoyed. When we eat something, the eater is the enjoyer and the foodstuff is enjoyed
S
- Sankhya philosophy, after describing the nature of prakrti (material nature) and purusa (the enjoyer), asserts that the creation is only a product of their unification or proximity to one another
- Sankhya philosophy, as is well known, deals with prakrti and purusa. Purusa is the Supreme Personality of Godhead or anyone who imitates the Supreme Personality of Godhead as an enjoyer, and prakrti means "nature"
- She (Goddess Durga) is so powerful that she can create and maintain. Prakrti, nature, can be very unkind. Mother Durga is often portrayed as chastising demons by piercing them with a trident
- So long we serve our senses and mind we remain in this material world, prakrti-sthani. And as soon as we revive our real consciousness, Krsna consciousness - we serve Krsna - that is liberation
- So there were six questions by Arjuna: ksetra, ksetra-jna, jnanam, jneyam, prakrti, purusa. Six questions. So Krsna has already replied what is ksetra, ksetra-jna, and what is the process of knowledge and what is the object of knowledge
- So this purusa, when he's struggling, manah sastanindriyani prakrti-sthani karsati (BG 15.7), hard struggle for existence to become purusa, but he cannot become purusa. He's prakrti
- So-called scholars and philosophers do not know the secret of success in life, and therefore they suffer in the hands of prakrti, nature - prakrteh kriyamanani gunaih karmani sarvasah - BG 3.27
- Somebody is in the cat's body. Somebody's dog's body. Somebody's in human being's body. Somebody is in demigod's body. These bodies are offered by prakrti according to price you pay. This is called karma
- Sometimes prakrti (a living entity) attempts to imitate the activities of the purusa
T
- The atheistic philosopher, they think that this combination of prakrti and purusa is without any aim, without any idea
- The atheistic Sankhyaite philosophers will of course offer their arguments that the material cosmic manifestation is due to prakrti and purusa - material nature and the living entity, or the material cause and the effective cause
- The entire cosmic manifestation is but a combination of matter and spirit. The spiritual part is the living entity, and these living entities are described as prakrti, or energy
- The explanation of pradhana and prakrti is that pradhana is the subtle, undifferentiated sum total of all material elements. Although they are undifferentiated, one can understand that the total material elements are contained therein
- The external energy, composed of pradhana or prakrti as the ingredient-supplying portion and maya as the causal portion, is known as maya-sakti
- The Goddess Durga is so powerful that she can create, maintain and annihilate. However, she cannot act independent of Krsna. She is like a shadow of Krsna. A sadhu knows that prakrti, nature, is working under Krsna's direction
- The highest perfection of such (developed consciousness towards the Supreme Personality of Godhead) consciousness is called Krsna consciousness. According to the body given by prakrti, or nature, one's consciousness is present
- The impersonalists take Brahman to be the root of this material tree, and from the root, according to Sankhya philosophy, come prakrti, purusa, then the three gunas, then the five gross elements, then the ten senses, mind, etc
- The individual soul has awareness in accord with his material body, which he attains by virtue of prakrti, or material nature
- The intricacies in the material world of the relationship of the prakrti and purusa, or the enjoyed and the enjoyer, is called samsara, or material entanglement
- The jiva, or living entity, is actually prakrti, or the marginal energy of the Supreme Lord. Being associated with material energy, he tries to lord it over the material nature. This is also confirmed in Bhagavad-gita
- The jiva-prakrti is called superior because the jiva has consciousness which is similar to the Lord's. The Lord's is supreme consciousness, and one should not claim that the jiva, the living entity, is also supremely conscious. BG 1972 Introduction
- The living entities and material nature are both predominated, controlled by the Supreme Lord. According to the Gita, the living entities, although parts and parcels of the Supreme Lord, are to be considered prakrti. BG 1972 Introduction
- The living entities are mentioned as prakrti in the Bhagavad-gita, and in Sanskrit prakrti is a feminine object
- The living entities belong to the category of superior energy. The inferior energy, or material energy, is called apara prakrti. In the Bhagavad-gita the creative energy is thus presented in two forms, namely apara and para prakrti
- The living entities, that is also prakrti, but he also wants to enjoy. That is called illusion. So in his enjoying temperament he may be called purusa, illusory purusa. Real purusa is Bhagavan. Purusa means bhokta. The bhokta, real bhokta, enjoyer
- The living entity - it does not matter whether he is a man or animal - he is part and parcel of God, but he desired certain dress or certain body, so prakrti, nature, has given him
- The living entity is mentioned in Bhagavad-gita (BG 7.5) as para prakrti, and in the Visnu Purana he is mentioned as the para sakti. He is part and parcel of the Supreme Lord as potency and not as the potent
- The living entity is the superior energy of the Supreme Lord, and the material world is the inferior energy. Both, however, are prakrti - energy
- The living entity lives by means of fire, water and food grains. It is through the combination of these three that the body is maintained. Consequently the body is called prakrti, material creation
- The Lord says in Bhagavad-gita (BG 9.10), mayadhyaksena prakrtih suyate sacaracaram: "The material energy (prakrti) works under My (Krsna's) direction, O son of Kunti, and is producing all moving and unmoving beings." Prakrti is Durga
- The manifestation of prakrti may be temporary, but it is not false. BG 1972 Introduction
- The material ingredients are a manifestation of maya as pradhana. In other words, when the three qualities of maya are in a dormant stage, they exist as prakrti, avyakta or pradhana
- The material nature is apara prakrti, and we living entities, we are trying to enjoy this prakrti. Therefore sometimes the living entity, either man or woman, he is described as purusa
- The materialist scientists, they are simply trying to know the prakrti. But they do not know the purusa. Prakrti means the enjoyed, and purusa means the enjoyer. Actually enjoyer is Krsna. He's the original purusa
- The Mayavada philosophy is that prakrti wants to become purusa. And that is not possible
- The Mayavadi philosophers cannot understand these two prakrtis, or natures - material and spiritual - but one who is actually intelligent can understand them
- The prakrti cannot give birth to the varieties. That is wrong theory. That is wrong theory. The real variety begins when the prakrti is in touch with the purusa
- The prakrti is the external energy of the Supreme Lord, and the purusa is the Supreme Lord Himself, and that is explained in Bhagavad-gita. Since this manifestation is material, it is temporary. BG 1972 purports
- The prakrti, nature, is instrument. Nature is not brain. Just like nowadays you have got very complicated machine, computer. The computer machine is not brain; the man who is pushing the buttons, he has got the brain
- The prakrti, nature, nature's law, is very strict and stringent. The nature will immediately offer you a similar body according to the thinking at the time of your death. Tatha dehantara-praptih
- The primordial matter, or prakrti, material nature, consisting of three modes, generates four groups of five. The first group is called elementary and consists of earth, water, fire, air and ether
- The primordial matter, or prakrti, material nature, consisting of three modes, generates four groups of five. The fourth group is the five working senses: speech, hands, feet, anus and genitals
- The primordial matter, or prakrti, material nature, consisting of three modes, generates four groups of five. The second group of five is called tan-matra, referring to the subtle elements (sense objects): sound, touch, form, taste and smell
- The primordial matter, or prakrti, material nature, consisting of three modes, generates four groups of five. The third group is the five sense organs for acquiring knowledge: eyes, ears, nose, tongue and skin
- The Sankhya philosophers regard You as the transcendental person who is beyond prakrti and purusa and who is the controller of even the demigods
- The science of God analyzes the constitutional position of God and His diverse energies. Material nature is called prakrti, or the energy of the Lord in His different purusa incarnations (expansions). BG 1972 purports
- The sense enjoyment of all animals, men and demigods within the purview of the material universe is controlled by the supernatural force called the prakrti, or daivi-maya
- The so-called relationship of father and son is an arrangement of prakrti, or nature. It has no meaning, and therefore it is called illusion
- The superior form of energy of the Personality of Godhead is described in the Bhagavad-gita as para prakrti
- The Supreme Brahman, Lord Krsna, is identical with both the jiva and prakrti in that they are all Brahman
- The Supreme Lord is the ultimate actor, and the conditioned living entity should simply remember this original actor, Sri Krsna. As living entities, we are being carried away by the waves of prakrti, or nature, which works under the Lord's direction
- The Supreme Personality of Godhead does not come directly in touch with this prakrti, but the form by which He touches this prakrti, that is Lord Siva
- The Supreme Personality of Godhead is actually the enjoyer in the transcendental sense, whereas all others are prakrti. The living entities are considered prakrti
- The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: The unmanifested eternal combination of the three modes is the cause of the manifest state and is called pradhana. It is called prakrti when in the manifested stage of existence
- The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Visnu, is ascertained to be the original cause of creation. Sridhara Svami, in his commentary Bhavartha-dipika, replies to the idea that prakrti and purusa are the causes of the cosmic manifestation
- The theory of the asuras is that the living entities are born of material nature, or prakrti, in touch with the purusa
- The whole worldly affair is going on . . . the godless atheists, they cannot understand it, that behind this wonderful prakrti, so many things happening. It is not happening independently
- The word prakrti means material nature, and purusa may also refer to the Supreme Personality of Godhead
- The word prakrti, which is used to indicate the source of generation, refers to the material energy of the Lord, and the word purusa refers to the living entities, who are the superior energy of the Lord. Both the prakrti and purusa ultimately enter God
- The word pri means "woman." Purusa, or spirit, is the subject, and prakrti, or nature, is the object. The enjoyment, however, is participated in both by the husband and the wife
- Their argument is that prakrti-purusa. Just like young man, young woman meets by chance, and the woman becomes pregnant. So this pregnancy is by chance. That is the argument, is it not?
- There are 3 Brahman conceptions: prakrti is Brahman as the field of activities, and the jiva is also Brahman and is trying to control material nature, & the controller of both of them is also Brahman, but He is the factual controller. BG 1972 purports
- There are 8,400,000, any body I have to accept as it is given by nature. Prakrteh kriyamanani gunaih karmani. I am associating different qualities, and prakrti is recording all; automatically it is being recorded what type of body I'll have next life
- There are two kinds of prakrtis, or potencies, namely the internal potency and the external potency, and Krsna is the overlord of both
- There are two kinds of prakrtis, we have studied in Bhagavad-gita: apara-prakrti, para-prakrti. So para-prakrti, or nature, transcendental nature, that is called daivi-prakrti
- There are two kinds of, para- and apara-prakrti. Apara-prakrti, para-prakrti. Apareyam. Yam. This material world is apara, inferior energy. Itas tu viddhi me prakrtim param. Besides this, there is another prakrti, another nature, which is para
- There are two things, prakrti and purusa. The purusa is the enjoyer, and prakrti is the enjoyed. Or, in other words, purusa is the predominator and prakrti is predominated. So we are prakrti
- There is no question of accepting any authority of God. These are primitive thoughts. We are self-sufficient - That means he is speaking all nonsense under the influence of prakrti. He is a rascal number one
- Therefore Lord Krsna is the original cause of the cosmic manifestation. Prakrti is like the nipples on the neck of a goat, for they cannot give any milk
- These (pradhana and purusa) may also be described as para prakrti and apara prakrti, as stated in Bhagavad-gita. Krsna, being the controller of both the prakrtis, is thus the master of pradhana and purusa
- These statements are there in the Srimad-Bhagavatam in the story of Maharaja Prthu. So prakrti said that, "Because people have become godless, demons, I have restricted my supply." Therefore everything depends on the mercy of the Lord
- They (living entities) have become sons of prakrti, or material nature, which is impregnated by the Supreme Personality of Godhead
- This is clearly mentioned in the Seventh Chapter, fifth verse of Bhagavad-gita: This prakrti is My lower nature. And beyond this there is another prakrti: jiva-bhutam, the living entity. BG 1972 Introduction
- This is confirmed in the Bhagavad-gita (9.10): mayadhyaksena prakrtih suyate sa-caracaram. Prakrti, the total material energy, works under the superintendence of the Lord
- This manifestation becomes magnificent at a certain interval, and again it disappears. That is the work of the prakrti
- This material manifestation takes place at a certain interval, stays for a while and then disappears. Such are the workings of prakrti But this cycle is working eternally. BG 1972 Introduction
- This material world, is existing on the spiritual prakrti. You can calculate what is your this body. This body is existing on the spiritual body. Just like your shirt. The shirt is existing on your actual hand
- This prakrti is material, but we are falsely identifying ourself as something made of this matter. The whole scientific world is going on under this misconception of life, that we belong to this material world. This is called illusion
- Those who accept the material nature as the cosmic manifestation's original cause (prakrti, the cause of creation according to Sankhya philosophy) are not correct in their conclusion
- Thus prakrti, by the energy of Lord Krsna, becomes the secondary cause, just as iron becomes red-hot by the energy of fire
- Time factor is also controlled by the Supreme Personality of Godhead, as confirmed in Bhagavad-gita (mayadhyaksena prakrtih suyate sa-caracaram (BG 9.10)). Prakrti, the cosmic manifestation, is under the control of time
- Time, nature, prakrti (as cause and effect), the mind, the material elements, false ego, the modes of nature, the senses, the universal form, complete independence and the moving and nonmoving beings appear subsequently as His opulences

- We are all the servant of maya, prakrti, because we have given up the service of the Lord
- We cannot conceive equal rights of purusa and prakrti. That is not Vedic conception. Vedic conception is purusa, the superior, Supreme, and prakrti means subordinate
- We cannot do anything, because the bigger creative energy's there & we are simply trying to combat with him. Therefore, uselessly we're struggling. That's all. We can't change. Because the bigger creative energy is different, prakrti, the material nature
- What is material nature? This is also explained in Gita as inferior prakrti, inferior nature. The living entity is explained as the superior prakrti. BG 1972 Introduction
- What is the attachment? The attachment involves prakrti and purusa
- When Krsna appears, He accepts the higher nature (prakrtim svam), not the inferior material nature
- When Krsna comes in touch with prakrti for giving birth of these varieties of forms of life, that is Siva
- When the purusa and prakrti, male and female, enjoy, they enjoy, they get the same pleasure, but one is purusa; one is prakrti. Similarly, Krsna is purusa, and we are prakrti. If we enjoy with Krsna, then the ananda, sac-cid-ananda, is there
- When the total material elements are manifested by the interaction of the three modes of material nature, the manifestation is called prakrti
- With such unification of prakrti (material nature) and purusa (the enjoyer), the living symptoms are visible in material nature, but one can guess that in the person of the enjoyer, the purusa, there are powers of control and enjoyment

- You may be very big prime minister or anything, but as soon as maya will dictate, "Please vacate your post and go away," you become a dog. You have to become. How you can challenge prakrti? That is not possible
- You wanted a body like this - nature has supplied it under the direction of prakrti. Krsna is sitting within you; He knows what you want and He gives you the facility, "Take it." And He orders nature, or His energy. That's all
